That was terrific! Thankfully we've got another 11 episodes of this to come, it almost made sitting through the bloody awful Tumble program beforehand tolerable (sidenote - how is Emma Samms not aging??). Capaldi was every bit as good as I expected, Clara started to be a bit more 3 dimensional, and I like the Paternoster gang. Since Moffat won't accept the BBC's offer to spin them off into their own series, I'm very glad to see them occasionally returning to the Mothership. I wasn't expecting the return of the Clockwork Droids, but it did explain something that baffled me from Girl in the Fireplace - how did the droids come to the conclusion that the correct way to fix their ship was to cannabilise random humans? Clearly it's standard operating practise for this particular fleet, which would make me hesitant to sign up. I loved the restaurant scene, and the Doctor sodding off to leave Clara to face the droids alone, without even prodding her memory about holding her breath. If she'd panicked and been cannabilised before he came back, I do wonder how guilty he'd have felt? Would he have written it off as her being to slow to remember, and so her fault? Intriguing. I can't wait to see how this plays out - more please, Moffat!

I would have been more impressed by this argument if the last two episodes aired hadn't stated that TenToo was also a regeneration, making Matt the LAST Doctor, and that Capaldi was the start of a whole new life cycle. But who cares about facts, right?

Spot on, tv-talk!

William Russell was planned to cameo in Day of teh Doctor, but ill health prevented him.

QFT. Plus, the best episode of his time, he was barely in.
-
It's hardly the first time the Doctor's killed someone.

I don't think showing the new leader of UNIT is getting around the Brig's death, even if she is his daughter. I took it more as repositioning UNIT back on the good guys side.

Does he? When?

It's alright, but it's definitely too long. I saw the 90 minute version of the story that was repeated in the Five Faces season, and that felt a lot snappier.

Another cracking review! I'm looking forward to your view of the rest of the season, and the 50th anniversary.

Jeff's Marathon Diary: Season 6 Doesn't Suck
HauntedBathroom replied to Primetimer's topic in Doctor Who
God, it's weird to find someone normal who'll (a) admit to reading the New Adventures and (b) be willing to quote Uncle Terrance's work in that range. -
Hmmmmm....it's not a proper Jaffa cake, but it's probably as close as you can get without being sued by McVities.

CE was wonderful. I don't know if he could have sustained that level of intensity across more than one season, plus Chris is notoriously reluctant to stay on in TV shows, but this one year was great. One reviewer says that he told more of a complete story in one year than some Doctors did in five or more, and I agree.

Bugger! I'm going to have to be wearing blinkers when I go online for the next few months!

This episode might be a similar length to The Eleventh Hour, which would make it feature length. When it airs on commercial channels, adverts can pad it to 75 or 90 minutes.

If you say polystyrene to British people, they know what it means, even if it doesn't spring easily to mind.

I'm in! I always love revisiting Eleven's time in the top slot.

Maybe Wilf realised that things that are described as 'this can never happen' in RTD stories tend to happen with no major repercussions. See Donna's brain melting if she ever remembers (but it doesn't) or travel between the dimensions being totally impossible (apart from when it's not).

An MBE doesn't make him a sir, it's just an honourific that can be used after his surname. Most people who get these sorts of awards say that it's good when making a reservation at a restaurant, and might get you a free upgrade on a plane, but other than that, it doesn't change your life. I'm not sure why he's got this honour now, the only thing he's done in Britain for the last few years is appear in panto with weird wife swappers the Krankees and shill his haircare on QVC.

I wouldn't advise anyone to start with Ten. Not only is it a terrible era, it's also quite atypical of what Doctor Who is about.

Personally, I found them to be far superior, but that wouldn't be difficult, as they were paired with a far superior Doctor. Amy in particular was a sparky joy.

I'd say, judging by the examples quoted, the pro-Moffat piece was written before Let's Kill Hitler. And I agree with it, when people dis -like Moffat's work they tend to wrap themselves in the 'He's sexist and homophobic' flag, rather than just say what he writes isn't for them. I think his work is great, but if you don't like it, just wait for Chibnall or Gatiss or Cross or whoever is going to take over. The way the show changes from showrunner to showrunner is the reason it's survived so long.

It was great. Brian was a great character, so much more fun than most companions families. I liked that Rory and Amy got to say goodbye to him.

I adore the season six Team TARDIS as well. They could spark off each other in so many interesting ways, that you didn't really get when it was Doctor+1.

It wasn't his last line, although that did sum everything I despised about the character. I started going off him from the 'GREAT BIG BUTTON' line, but all of the bollocks in season 2 left me cheering when he was knocked out in The Idiots Lantern, and desperate to see him go by the satan pit 2 parter.
