  1. To let you know how interested I was in this show, I watched a bit(through Rusty's scream fest pilot) and then I swept the patio, unloaded one load from the dryer, loaded in a new one, and then started dinner. Hmmm, guess there wasn't a lot of interest! Jason was my choice but honestly, I didn't think his pilot was all that. Was a bit surprised that Cory was eliminated first but I guess that goes with his laid back personality. One thing that came out of tonight is that we must not have seen enough "southern" yet...same time, same channel next week, The Great Truck Race...through the south!
  2. I have several problems with Rusty. First and foremost, he YELLS at us! Second, he looks like an unmade bed all the time! Thirdly he almost always looks like he needs a shower. Lastly, I worry that he is going to drop dead from high blood pressure. He is always red in the face(and not from the heat in the kitchen.) Cory is boring! That leaves Jason. 'Nuff said.
  3. I am not saying that they do not have big expenses but they do have jobs to help them out. I think it is wonderful that she realized how much her lessons cost and wants to help out; many kids do not. This could be a great solution...$500,000 to the winner, $300,000 for second and $200,000 for third. That is still a huge amount of money to win. I know that they wanted to make it sound great, a million dollars to the winner but I always hate that someone who has made it to second or third place walk away empty handed.
  4. Thank goodness Eva beat them out! One of the judges was talking about their transitions with the chairs and how smooth it was.....NOT. They were having problems getting them set up and it showed if one was watching. It was pretty obvious that they underscored Eva in the first round...surely didn't want to have her leading and then do an amazing routine, did they? Well, people now know who she is but I sure wished she could have won so she could help with the expenses..something that Les Twins probably don't need nearly as much.
  5. The one other thing with a renovation of an older place versus a new build is the landscaping. If you get an older home you have the chance of mature trees and plants. It is very expensive to landscape and takes a long time to get something that is beautiful because no matter what, it has to grow! Having mature plants is great. Yes, you have to work to keep them nice but they are already grown...in my opinion, much better than all the new growth you landscape with.
  6. I actually found it hard to watch this dance. I'm trying not to be judgemental but the choice of costuming was really off. It definitely did not go with her hair(or style). It made her look chunky and the dance did not seem to flow with this dress. I would not be surprised to see them go first.
  7. Did anyone else happen to see a pilot today(8/6) called Chi-Town Flip? Of course it was a husband and wife team renovating in Chicago. I liked the husband, the wife not so much...way too many teeth. She even rivaled Giada from the Food Network! What was interesting about this pilot was who two of the Executive Producers were...Tarek and Christina. My recording cut off before I could see the date it was filmed. Oh, the renovation was pretty good..nice looking house at the end.
  8. OK, we have been riding Matthew all season but I actually felt sorry for him. It is true that we still don't know anything about him but his presentation was a million times better than Rusty's. Speaking of Rusty, how the heck did he win a pilot? He was YELLING at me the whole time and I was really worried that he was going to have either a stroke or a heart attack right in front of my eyes! His face was so red I was sure his blood pressure was so elevated it wasn't funny. I am pretty sure that he will be gone early and it will be between Jason and Cory. Guess we will have to wait and see.
  9. The first person to win the Florida Lottery was from Sarasota and it was won by getting a chance on a scratch off and then went into a drawing. The guy worked at a car wash and was broke before the first year was over...He bought all kinds of expensive things and just plain ran out of money. Someone young I know inherited $16,000 and thought they could retire...ah, the knowledge of young people!
  10. You are right there! Who wants the world knowing where you are and how much you won! Of course, my chances of winning the lottery were greatly diminished when I moved from FL to MS! No lottery here! The most I ever won on a scratch off was $1000...not enough to buy a house! Back to their choices...I liked the townhouse the most of all of their choices. The first house was in Springfield which is a good hike to DC. Back in the day when I lived in VA, it was considered way out of DC...not so anymore! I-95 is just a parking lot for DC now! I loved the layout of the 3rd house with all of those bathrooms and it had a great family room downstairs. All in all a great value.(of course, like I mentioned, they didn't tell us how much the HOA fees were)
  11. I really liked their choice. The DC area is sooooo expensive and they got so much more for their money. It was brand new, had everything that they wanted with the exception of a huge backyard and was actually under their budget. It also looked like it was much closer to their work and the daycare center so considering the traffic in the area it was probably a good move. They didn't mention the HOA fees which I am sure the townhouse has but I am betting that the husband was glad to have no lawn maintenance for the little free time he has. They had room to grow and somewhere down the road if they want a single family home they can sell this place and move on. For now, I think it was a perfect solution.
  12. I think this comes from the fact that the first houses we saw them renovate, they did have buyers for. Since they have a good reputation in Indianapolis there are probably folks wanting to buy a house from them. They do all of their work(except for daddy's house) in one area that is known as up and coming so young people seem attracted to their homes. I can take all the "fun" they seem to have because I really like how their houses turn out for the most part.
  13. I'm thinking that the Atlanta couple found a house that Tarek and Christina missed somehow! I could not believe all the trash (and apparently the smell). Even though the house was off the street, how could the county inspectors miss the mess that was outside and not done something about it? I cannot believe that the neighbors would not have complained. I liked the finished house. Ken and Anita seem to design clean and simple which I like. I really don't mind that they are not over-the-top personalities. I like the cool and calm they present such a change from most of the other flipping shows. All in all, I am enjoying watching this version of F&F.
  14. Guess I am the only one who wonders if Les Twins really had a huge injury or was the twin putting on a good act? Not saying he wasn't hurt but maybe not as badly as portrayed and they figured they could go with the sympathy vote? I love K and M's dance and it was really a dance. Make-up was seriously good for the dance but was a bit scary on the regular stage. They surely should have won. I think that Swing Latino won because of their glitz and glamour. Kinjas were a bit subdued tonight...good but subdued and that might have done them in. Just wondering!
  15. Has anyone else watched "Listed Sisters" based in Nashville? Since I watch most of the shows while I am sewing, the television is on HGTV or Food Network because you don't always have to pay close attention to know what is happening! Listed Sisters has been on the past two or three weeks following House Hunters on Wednesday night. I actually like the show a lot because the sisters do a really good job renovating the houses they pick. Last week, they re-did a house that had been burned....the end with the garage was badly burned, the rest had residual smoke damage. Really changed it up and made it like new. Last night, the family they worked with had found a house that a friend was selling them for a good price. Had the sisters(twins) evaluate it and then reno it. When they finished t, it was gorgeous! The one thing that would have bothered me about the house was that it was at the bottom of a hill and had a long flight of stairs down to the porch but if I was young with good knees, I don't think it would have been that big a problem and the girls added a rail for support that hadn't been there to begin with. The exterior changes were amazing, colors, landscaping and the front porch area. I would take this show in a NY minute over F & F Las Vegas!!!! I just checked the listings and it will be on next Wednesday(8/9)
  16. I lived in Sarasota from 1970 until a year ago. It really is a circus town but believe it or not, Venice, which is south of Sarasota was the winter home of the Ringling Brothers circus for many, many years. I am including a link(dated 2010 so it is a little out of date) about the Ringling Museum which includes a circus museum. One neat thing in town is the Sailor Circus which is put on by Sarasota High School but open to anyone who can perform. It is unbelievable what these kids can do...it has been going on since before I moved to Sarasota. So all in all, there is still a lot of circus in Sarasota and many of the circus families still live there like the Wallenda's. Of course, Nik(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nik_Wallenda) is pretty famous for some of his recent walks...remember Niagara Falls? http://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2010/10/once_home_to_the_famed_ringlin.html The original family that was fired out of a cannon was the Zacchini family. I actually met some of them when I was working at the hospital..it is a dangerous job! Believe it or not, I have never heard of Bello Nock before AGT. https://news.google.ca/newspapers?id=QPccAAAAIBAJ&sjid=p3sEAAAAIBAJ&pg=5725,287006&dq=ildebrando-zacchini&hl=en Guess this is enough circus stuff for one post!
  17. I am sorry Simon, but the man with the saxaphone who sang(sorry can't remember his name), did not sing a Joe Cocker song...he sang a Beatles song that Joe Cocker covered. I really liked him and would certainly have liked him going through before the roller skating bro and sis, or the so called comedian Preacher.
  18. The house on Sanders tonight(how many houses on Sanders have they done now?) was gorgeous. I really questioned the wallpaper but it was actually kinda' nice and different! I am not a fan of velvet but the couch and chairs were pretty and they was used for staging anyway. Again, very tall cabinets in the kitchen but the man(and for that matter the woman) were both tall and he seemed to like them. I wish I had those high windows in the bedrooms...you have the light but no one can see in..win, win. One question. Was the claw foot tub used. I admit I watch while I sew so I might have missed it. Will have to re-watch to check. That is one really big house but I think it would make a great family home. I liked the outside and porch and the little bit of purple was not bad...unlike last week when the whole house was PURPLE. Last thought at least for now, I liked the floral "drawings" that they created were both pretty nice but would they shed?(At least there wasn't hay on the wall....here's looking at you Hildi!
  19. Yes, I wondered that too! The only thing that was mentioned about the baby was that the stairs were designed so she could carry him up the stairs safely. And her son has a desk to "work" on.
  20. I am getting a little tired of "Junior" versions of the shows on the Food Network. I was happy to see Guy helping the kids and telling that some of the kitchen tools can be dangerous. I was really glad the little girl who won won!!! If I never see the Julia Child wanna be again, it will be too soon. She seems to be a good cook but her impersonations drive me crazy! And how about Kenji being on as a judge...pretty quick turn around!
  21. Rusty did not use the burned hot dogs. He found other hot dogs in the fridge and went with those. At least he knew not to use the burned ones. I really was hoping he would be the one going home because he is like every heavy-set cook they have had on for the last few years plus he is LOUD...sorry for yelling!
  22. Did anyone notice what show one of the judges(Jaymee Sire) is from? She will be the floor reporter on Iron Chef Showdown. So she is taking over Kevin's job and the show is a go! Will they be finding another Iron Chef this go around? Ok, I will admit, I have never heard of Loco Moco before tonight but then, I have never been to culinary school. I had to feel for Jason when his eggs wouldn't peel. I hate when that happens....always when you are taking them to a party! Maybe this is why he didn't have 4 eggs for the show.
  23. Enough said! I am and have always been a Derek fan. I know others aren't but boy those two should have listened to him! He knows how to choreograph and has awards to prove it. Most of the time they don't even look like dancers but gymnasts. One last thought.....Fik-shun was robbed!
  24. Like most of Florida, it depends on how close you are to the beach! I lived in Sarasota(50 miles south of Tampa) for over 40 years and just watched the prices climb and climb and climb! When Siesta Beach was declared #1 beach in the US, it really went crazy. The one thing I would have not compromised on was a garage. It is hot, rainy, etc in FL and having your car inside is a must in my opinion. Who wants to bring in grocery in the rain(almost a daily occurrence in Like most of Florida, it depends on how close you are to the beach! Who wants to bring in grocery in the rain(almost a daily occurrence in the summer). It also keeps your car protected from the sun which is brutal plus with a covered area(garage or carport) you don't burn your hands and other parts of your body from the extremely hot steering wheel and seats! I really liked the third house. The two bedrooms in the house for the family and a great place for guests in the guesthouse. I would have wanted to add a second bathroom but there was already a place to put it and they were under budget weren't they?
  25. I can't see myself buying a $700,000 house with no garage! If I am going to spend money like that I want a garage. I hate having to get out in the rain and Hotlanta is not nicknamed that just for all that goes on there...it is super hot in the summer! Since I am not big on open concept, I think I would have wanted the fireplace but would they have found all that damage with it in place? I had to laugh at this...I hadn't thought of that. What I did think of was how he put his foot in exactly the "wrong" place. One other thing was them talking about the beautiful view...was it really that beautiful? I guess being located where it is is a good thing but not really so beautiful to me anyway. Last thought...I would want a garage!
