For anyone watching "The Gilded Age" on HBO - the character of the Russell's French chef Monsieur Baudin is Douglas Sills, who played "Dennis Dutton" in 2 episodes - "The Butler Did It" and "Aftertaste". He has a mustache and wears one of those chef's caps so it was hard to recognize him; it's been bothering me for a couple weeks but all of a sudden it hit me! I always thought he was one of the best types of "The Closer" characters - charming yet evil.

I never understood why she took up so much screen time on the finale of the show.

NPR Morning Edition did an interview with Polina Edmunds this morning. Her opinion is that they need to clean up the scoring to have more value (ie, honesty) to the artistic marks. She says she was 15 and had the most technical program in 2014 and still placed ninth because they correctly graded artistry. it's about 5 minutes: https://www.npr.org/2022/02/19/1081948828/olympic-figure-skating-faces-a-series-of-controversies-what-is-its-future

Regarding a minimum age limit: probably a good idea, but that won't really fix the main problem which IMO is the coaching and what the coaches are allowed to do. I wish they (the ISU) would monitor and control the coaches. Do they have to be certified? They need to limit practice time for minors, like they do with school sports (in the US anyway), and they need to be able to monitor their diets and other training methods such as weight training. If they can do surprise drug tests they can do surprise training inspections. Oh, well, the Russians would figure out a way to cheat anyway. I got nothing.

It's a shame that we are trying to figure out rules to keep coaches and athletes from doing permanent harm to their bodies.

There HAS to be a way to ensure the safety of these skaters. It is not right for them to sacrifice their long term health for a couple years of "glory". I don't know what the answer is; maybe limit the age at which they are legally allowed to train on the higher level jumps?

The videos posted by Youtube user "Fran" (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_oCF_4x4dXpzQXOAe7mVEg) are very informative. If you have time, they are worth watching, in particular this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXK6X45AZESL5Gi2J6f_dJ0DV87VmW3N0

I know each sport sets its own requirements, but that's scary.

Absolute bullshit. I can't find any valid reason for scoring her that high.

I saw this on Facebook - I did not realize the bouquets the medal winners are receiving are hand-knit:

One thing I found interesting about Tara and Johnny's comments was they both blamed Kamila Valieva for taking a med that she knew was banned. I don't think they mentioned Eteri by name (although they may have made a glancing comment to "her coaches".

That VOX article is spot on; Here's another article: https://www.vox.com/22929275/kamila-valieva-trimetazidine-eteri-tutberidze-olympics-2022 I have shared it with a lot of people. Eteri should be banned from the sport.

I think if the veggies are prepared in the kitchen they would be ok. One of our local schools has a garden. I'm not sure if the garden itself needs to be inspected.

I love watching Jason skate, but come ON, Jason, you need that quad! I also want to watch skates with great music, and by that I mean something that makes me sit up and say "hey, this is fun!". I noticed a lot of the men's short programs used modern music this year. Leave the ballet to the Russians; let's see Broadway and jazz!

You can retain your US citizenship, but the US can still require you to pay income tax, regardless of where you earn the money. -
Those are cooling towers, used in many industries, not just nuclear power. The location used to be a steel mill.

I would have liked to see the interpreter too, even if just for a minute, just because it would have been interesting. But part of the job of an interpreter is to be "invisible". -
I wanted to see Al the next day. I'll bet he could hardly walk.

The "stained windows" are projections of some kind. They change show to show. -
