I've just been watching through LCK as a prep for tonight's show and I was also disappointed that Jason didn't make it. Although, as soon as Tom said in his introduction that he had been outvoted on eliminating both Amar and Carl, I knew that Jason would have to be super-perfect to beat them. Not that Tom is biased, and wouldn't have eliminated either Amar or Carl if they had really made a mistake, but he is human and I think that circumstance set the bar extra high for Jason. He sounded accepting and positive in his exit interview, though, and I hope he has found his mojo as a chef again.

S04.E15: Up To Heaven And Down To Hell

Also, as a sample-size woman living in one of the great fashion centers of the world, Joan would have easy access to all kinds of high-end clothing at very good prices. -
Interesting. I definitely notice a difference. She does look more business-like, but in a very high-level, fashion-conscious way. She's come a long way from being a surgeon who no doubt was more comfortable in scrubs, to an addiction counselor, wearing comfortable, but still stylish clothes, to a fully qualified investigative consultant, with her own clients. I still think her wardrobe is a bit high-fashion for her usual environment of NYC police stations, etc. but you can understand character-wise, that she is trying to look more professional. I think we've discussed before about how she can afford top-of-the-line clothing. She made good money as a doctor, is living rent-free in the brownstone, and as a resident of one of the great fashion centers of the world, who can wear sample-sizes, she can easily access great clothes at reasonable prices.

I've also never been a huge John Noble fan, but he is really convincing me as Morland. The scene at the brownstone, where he takes responsibility for Sabine's death was nothing short of amazing. I actually gasped when he stepped in towards Sherlock and said "You invoke your mother now?" The acting work between him and Jonny is truly stellar. And speaking of stellar, I seriously covet Joan's long red print skirt, with the short skirt under it. Pairing that with the white blouse was genius. She sat in it in one scene and crossed her legs apparently just to remind viewers why she's considered to be one of the most beautiful women in the world. My only complaint about her gorgeous wardrobe is that she seems to be over-dressed for many of her scenes. Realistically, she should probably dress down a bit more.

Yes, a local nature center has hives and does a honey harvest festival every year. They use both the bear-shaped containers and regular jars and just put their own label on them. You can buy their honey straight out of the combs on harvest day. It's amazing. They'll give you a taste of the comb itself if you ask. Biting into it is like an explosion of golden summer in your mouth. I think it would be fun if they showed Sherlock harvesting his honey. It's true, bees hibernate over the winter, which makes it difficult to feature them on a show which is mostly set in the fall and winter to coincide with the airing schedule, but they could definitely show the harvest in a fall episode. Overall, I thought this was a good ep. For-profit colleges are very evil and are in line with the show's emphasis on corporate evil-doers. And I love the way they are handling Morland and his relationship with both Sherlock and Joan. Hopefully they learned their lesson with Mycroft!

Me, too. I don't watch much regular tv, and I'm not great at remembering faces, so I almost never recognize known actors as a tip-off to guilt, but he was seriously sketchy from word one. I also agree that he copied his father's MO to implicate the survivor families. He would have been smarter to try to make it look like a robbery. Or at the very least to wait until she was done with her phone call!

I didn't notice it as much in the birthday episode, but in this one, it seemed clear that both kids' speech is much improved. They hardly had to caption Will at all and I heard clear sentences. He does still have some issues and will occasionally parrot, especially Bill, but considering his health issues and the fact that he's only been speaking English for a couple of years, I thought he was doing pretty well. Anyway, this was a super cute episode overall.

I loved this episode! One of the few times that something intending to be fun romp actually turns out to be just that. Also one of the things I loved most was how free Peter Capaldi was to really come into his own as the 12th Doctor, without Clara. I disliked her from the start, even with Matt, although she would have been tolerable if she had left when she was meant to, in the last Christmas special, at the end of Season 8. This season, she ended up interfering with my enjoyment of the show, to the point where I considered stopping watching it altogether. Only loyalty to a show that I've loved since the 70's and the hope that it could get better kept me going. And now, seeing Twelve with River has really given me hope for a Clara-less Season 10. I also would like to see a more mature companion. No more perky/sassy 20-something, British, white girls. I'd love to see a Donna or River type, or a male companion. I can see that argument that a male companion makes the show too male-centric, but I could see another a team with male and female companions. Not a couple, as we had with Amy and Rory, just some lively and interesting folks for Peter to bounce off of and argue with. It has worked in the past, and could definitely work again. Unfortunately, John Barrowman has aged enough that having him back as the ageless Jack probably wouldn't work. Although I'm sure they could make up some kind of timey-wimey explanation, I'm not sure how well he would work with Twelve. By the way, this was discussed above, but the basic character of Jack was created by RTD, then given to Moffatt to write in The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances.

OK, I take that back, I don't really feel sorry for Kilgrave. He's a rapist and murderer. But I did feel something for him and that's the mark of both great writing and great acting.

Tennant is definitely killing it.The way he looked at her picture at the end - satisfaction and triumph, sure, that he got her to do something without using his powers directly, but also a wonder and longing. In his own twisted way, he loves Jessica and wants her to love him. He's a sick bastard, but imagine having all your relationships tainted by compulsion. How much can he control his power? Does it just happen all the time, automatically anything he says, people do? If that's the case, he could never know real affection from another human being, because he would never know if anything they said or did was compelled or not. I was afraid of this - that David Tennant would make me feel sorry for a vicious psychopath. Damn you, show, you're making me both think and feel.

Weirdly enough, his Doctor did a fair amount of licking, too. His companions occasionally had to call him on it. He apparently could taste the chemical composition of things by licking them and in his enthusiasm would miss the fact that humans find it to be an odd behavior. He's talked about the licking in interviews and said that it was in the script for him to do it. Also that it was one of the first scenes that he and Krysten Ritter did together and that he apologized to her for doing it. Jessica Jones is really drawing me in. I came to the show as a David Tennant fan, but I think I'm turning into a Jessica Jones fan.

Grr. My cable went out and I spent the entire time of tonight's episode dicking around with Time Warner tech support and missed it. Are episodes ever posted online or on demand?
-
Apparently, dragonflies are colloquially known as devil's darning needles, because of their long thin bodies. I have heard that, although I would also have missed the question.

That was a terrific scene. It reminded me of Watson's "dinner" with Moriarty, in which Watson wipes the floor with her without moving a muscle. Lucy Liu kicks all kinds of butt. Not to mention being incredibly gorgeous with fantastic clothes. I definitely have a girl-crush on her. I also love the scene where she explains to Sherlock that she isn't leaving him. It was an incredible expression of love. Not romantic love, but something much deeper. It was a very Naomi and Ruth moment. "Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God."

Wow, she is good. Especially at faces and color realism. Hopefully she will do equally well with all the wacky sh!t they throw at them. Also, it's like any of these shows (Project Runway being a perfect example) - being good when you have plenty of time and cooperative clients is different than being able to compete under time pressure and with difficult canvasses.
-
I think it was the cast for the next season, including returning competitors.
-
I agree. All three should have been judged. I think Kruseman would still probably have won, but Matt deserved to have his work considered.
-
All right, Kruseman! I'm really glad they gave it to him. His tattoo really was excellent. The details on that ship were amazing. Chris's was fine, but there were too many areas of solid color. The inside of the girl's mouth was solid black. Kruseman's was clearly better. Just a gorgeous tattoo.

Poor Swapnil, always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Candace's was good too, considering the time frame, and for them to lose to Blake's poorly made mess? Ugh. I knew as soon as they were featuring him during the episode that he would either win or go home. I was just hoping it was go home. He bugs. Can't say they were wrong about the auf, though. That was terrible.

Came here to post the sad news about Roger Rees. I want to thank Elementary for introducing me to this wonderful actor. For a brief appearance, he made a big impact. Not all guest stars are as fondly remembered.

House Hunters International - General Discussion
Kathira replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in House Hunters International
Yeah, that was redonkulous. Some of the other episodes weren't so bad, though. And one couple from like Oklahoma (or somewhere like that) got an island off of Panama to retire on for less than $500,000. They were kind of sweet. But overall, it was very "Lifestyles of the Insanely Rich." -
This is true around here also. Kids will open presents if the party is at home and there's more time, but at an outside venue with a set party time frame like Mad Science, gifts are usually collected to be opened later. In addition to giving more time for the party fun, it eliminates problems like kids being openly disappointed with a gift. Kids that age are too young to guard their reactions, especially if there's a duplicate. Also, everyone wants their gift to be the best one and not opening them at the party cuts back on both competitiveness and jealousy. Yes, kids need to learn to behave socially, but this gets easier naturally with older kids. I thought the party was great and Jen certainly isn't the only person ever to mess up directions for something like that. I gave out wrong directions to our wedding venue! Will does seem to be doing much better in terms of speech and social interaction, although I wonder if he will be ready for kindergarten this year. Maybe another year in pre-school will give him the boost he needs.

This actually isn't unusual in S&M relationships, that the submissive (or bottom) is actually the one in control of the scene and the relationship in general. This seemed to be very much the case for Lee and Claire. She was always the one who was initiated their sex play, asking to be tied up, etc. It's not too much of a step to see that she was the one who took control of the situation once Ricky killed Lisa.

A guy I know had a defibrillator implanted in his chest (which I assume is similar to pacemaker surgery) and yes, he was out and about within 24 hours. They did have him stay overnight, but the doctors wanted Hardy to do that, too. He left because, as Ellie says, he's a knob. He took it easy for a couple of days, but within a week, my friend was back working out with our running/walking group. He walks rather than runs, but he was walking easily 3 miles a day. His only complaint has been that the defibrillator makes it uncomfortable to sleep on his left side. He says it's the size of a cigarette pack and he can feel it inside him when he lies on that side. So, yes, I expect that Hardy will be back up doing his usual tromping around the fields and cliffs of Broadchurch very soon.

The outdoor locations for the show are filmed on the southern coast of England, on the Channel between England and France. I think town nearest to where they film the cliffs is West Bay. If you Google "Jurassic Coast" you'll find lots of great pictures and information. And yes, Olivia Colman is amazing. She and David Tennant together are giving a master class in acting.
