  1. That's cool. I happened to discover The Middle a few years ago because United Airlines was airing it. OTOH, last summer, United kept showing the promo for B99, which looked really awful to me. I gave it a try mainly because some reviewers had written good things about the preview episodes they received, plus Mike Schur and André Braugher. It really is a "gem," as you put it!
  2. StatMom, it's from 106: Tracy Does Conan, and it's also one of Tina Fey's favorite lines.
  3. D is for Derek Malone, Sam's brother with the eyes as blue as Windex and Derek McGrath, who played Andy Andy.
  4. A is for Andy Andy. I saw you kissing, Sam! I saw you kissing, Sam! Mommy! I'll clean up my room now, Mommy!
  5. Danes looked terrific from the back, but from the front, the cut did nothing for her. It just didn't seem to hang right on her, IMO.
  6. Jack: I'm going to be your bottom Kenneth, and I want you to ride me as hard as you can.
  7. Y is for Yelnick McWawa, Cliff's 1983 prediction for the next president.
  8. And with the Oscars, you get voters who give their ballots to their gardeners or grandchildren to fill out. No system is perfect. Groups that don't like the Emmy outcomes can give their own awards, e.g., Television Critics Awards, People's Choice Awards.
  9. The Emmy voting process is quite different from the Oscars. Not every ATAS member votes for every category; in fact, they are limited to five categories. Here are some interesting articles (one, two, three) about the procedures. Notice that voters have to sign an affidavit saying they have watched the Emmy screeners with the nominated episodes/performances in the category(ies) they are judging. No doubt, some people lie, but I get the sense that most voters take that responsibility rather seriously. ETA: Just found this on the Emmy web-site: I have often wondered if this means that, e.g., actors cannot vote in their own categories or in any categories in which their program competes.
  10. X is for the last Xmas party in the house that Sam bought for him and Diane.
  11. MM won best drama in each of its first four seasons, all deserved, IMHO. None of its regular cast members has ever won an individual acting award, however, and that's puzzling indeed. Thought for sure Hamm would have taken it in S4, when he submitted The Suitcase, and Cranston was not in the running, but Kyle Chandler won instead.
  12. I watched the first season, but the extreme violence got to me in S2, and I couldn't continue. I can see the show's quality and why many people like it, but it's just not for me.
  13. At least Andre was featured in one of the comedy bits sprinkled throughout the Emmy broadcast.
  14. Two seasons later, she didn't even want to meet Aidan's parents when he first invited her to breakfast with them, as she feared things were getting too serious too fast. Oy.
  15. We did see Charlotte have lunch once with her now-married sorority sister types. I think what distinguished Charlotte was that she was much more open about wanting a good sex life than those friends were. But, yeah, as originally conceived, the four women were "types" that didn't seem to fit naturally as friends, other than their connection to Carrie. (Do we know how Charlotte came into Carrie's orbit?)
  16. U is for the Ultimatums that Sam and Diane lobbed at each other in the S2 finale.
  17. Q is for all the Quality Quips the writers crafted for these characters over the years. [kariyaki, that mohair pajamas line is one of my favorites!]
  18. N is for Nanny G! The first time.... ever I laaaaaay with you..... Emma Thompson is da bomb.
  19. I is for Irene Blanchard, who accepted Coach's marriage proposal, then jilted him after she won the lottery.
  20. D is for Diane Chambers. (Surprised it took this long to get to her.)
  21. I was just coming here to post that, in exactly that way. LOL! So... B is for Bebe Neuwirth.
  22. Thanks for posting those links, Kromm. I've never watched Mrs. Doubtfire, but I think I will have to, now. Bless those two young women, and bless Robin,
  23. W is for all the Weddings that did or didn't happen on Cheers! Ep. 1-20: Sam and Diane, nope Ep. 3-25: Diane and Frasier, nope Ep. 5-26: Sam and Diane, nope again Ep. 6-4: Carla and Eddie, yep -- but look how THAT turned out Ep. 10-25: Woody and Kelly, yep -- and I like to think that one's a keeper Any that I missed? Send me a PM and I'll edit the list to add them! (If I'm not mistaken, we didn't actually see Frasier and Lilith's wedding on-screen, did we?)
  24. HoC lost a lot, IMO, when . I'm intrigued that he's joining Homeland.
