  1. Isn't genitalia itself that word? True, some parts of female genitalia are internal, but in context, the term usually implies the external genitalia that can be seen on a naked body.
  2. Oh, I don't disagree. Just my way of taking issue with the statement that rap (which I don't even particularly like) doesn't belong in the R'n'R HoF, given the breadth of musical "influences" that the Hall has honored. Now when will Carly Simon get in, already? :-)
  3. OTOH, this HoF's definition of rock and roll seems so expansive that I'm surprised Yo-Yo Ma hasn't made the cut.
  4. I'm about to gag. Carrie is bitching to the others about Aidan taking over "her space" after "moving in with her." Uh, Carrie, Aidan bought that place so technically, you were squatting with him. Gratitude, much?
  5. I haven't seen this one for a while, but I thought Marie was initially touched that "the boys" found these statues for her, then shocked when she learned how much they cost. With the toaster, I don't think cost entered into it -- she had a toaster that (in her mind) worked fine, and she wanted a coffee maker instead.
  6. And we learn today that actor Bob Hastings (McHale's Navy, among many other credits) passed away on Monday, June 30, at the age of 89. He had battled pancreatic cancer for 15 years.
  7. So true! The Diane Chambers of Season 1 would never have been as hung up on her trousseau, her engagement ring, her "fingertip towels," etc. as Season 5 Diane was made out to be. They really painted her as rather insufferable toward the end.
  8. Writer/director/actor Paul Mazursky has passed away, at age 84. I think I saw him most recently as Lilly Manning's (Sela Ward's) father in Once and Again.
  9. Are you able to stream it in Canada? Just tried here in the U.S. No dice.
  10. This article about Vicious briefly mentions the Holt character:
  11. I agree. Carrie was still pretty relate-able and level-headed at this point. Even when I was 20something, I never encountered any guys as clueless and completely slobby as Sam and his roomie, but it's Timothy Olyphant, so whatever. And YUM. (Though I think he's much sexier now on Justified than he was back then.)
  12. Amem. What a powerhouse line-up performing a heartfelt tribute. I never bought a Hall & Oates album, but I had an opportunity to hear them live a few years go, and color me impressed. I had never realized before then how strong their musicianship is. Really outstanding. P.S. I'm actually watching it now. The E Street segment is going on far too long. As I ffwd'd through some of it, I kept wondering why they were showing some dude who looked like an executive. Turns out that was drummer Max Weinberg.
  13. With the proliferation of channels and other content delivery mechanisms, the Emmys just become more and more meaningless over time, don't they? Nobody but paid critics can seem to keep up with new programming in real time. How do Emmy voters, who are busy working and may actually watch less TV than the average PTV poster, supposed to take note of what's really award-worthy? That said, I gave up on True Detective after four episodes (dismal, overwrought and convoluted -- and I loathe Woody Harrelson's marble-mouthed mug), so I'm dismayed that it seems a lock for everything under the sun. Put me down for The Americans.
  14. I'm not a big fan of the newsprint dress, but what I really don't get is why Carrie would chose THAT to wear to an "act-of-contrition" luncheon with Natasha. The dress is essentially backless (is there a shelf bra built into the front? if not, that could account for the noticeable lop-sidedness). Was she trying to distract Natasha by making her read during lunch? Dior designer John Galliano reportedly said of this dress: Blergh.
  15. I think Carrie was wearing this floral-print dress when she fell into the pond at Tavern on the Green. When she ran into him on the cocktail cruise ship, I'm pretty sure she was wearing the dark blue dress pictured here.
  16. I don't recall how long Charlotte dated in-a-hurry-to-get-married-guy but I thought it hadn't been long. Anyway, it was episode 3 or 4 and the writers could afford to be a little flip then. They didn't know it would run for 6 seasons and get all serious!
  17. Wallach loved the theater and did movies to pay the bills; TV, too, I'd imagine, though he was in some classics there: Looks like his most recent TV appearance was an episode of Nurse Jackie in 2009.
  18. Seasons later, she dumped a guy for bringing her carnations, so she has stayed true to form.
  19. It has been a while since I last saw this episode, but I think that's what they were conveying -- that there are women who feel that insecure about their marriages. This was a big theme of Bridget Jones as well, so it must be true in at least some circles. But I also hung out with people who didn't make me feel that way (I married at 36).
  20. Carrie's world became increasingly insular over time. This may have occurred because the stories for the other 3 took up more broadcast space as the series progressed, but I liked Carrie's broader social circle of the early days.
  21. I've just rewatched this after seeing the rest of the season. i don't have any problem with how Jared's reaction was staged, in light of the subsequent information that There were people in the hallway when he entered the room, so he'd know that The director wanted a specific reaction and probably shared just enough with the young actor to get that. For Mad Men fans, I'm pretty sure that various reactions we saw from Sally did not involve Kiernan Shipka actually knowing that her character had seen her step-grandmother fellating Roger Sterling or even that her own character had been caught masturbating.
  22. Charlotte should have run screaming a lot sooner. She rushed into marriage with a cardboard cut-out onto which she projected her desires. She brushed off every indication that he wasn't what she thought. It's hard for me to feel any sympathy for her married life or her sense that she "paid" for the apartment.
