  1. The later Lucy Shows are a very pale version of the original. There's a lot of fifties and sixties shows that haven't shown up, like "The People's Choice" with Jackie Cooper, or "Fractured Flickers".
  2. As kids we used to dance in the street behind the mosquito-spraying truck, didn't seem to hurt us.
  3. Too much late Seventies-Eighties. Though they are avoiding the usual route, which to have good shows like "Bilko", "Jack Benny" or "You Bet Your Life" then transition to Eighties shows like "Mama's Family". (They are going straight to "The Hogan Family" and eliminating "Valerie's Family"? Or is the whole series renamed?)
  4. "Jimmy's John" is a more appropriate name for their sandwiches.
  5. Yes, you're eager for some tasty gelato and then the frustration of not being able to open it. If you don't destroy the containers trying to get at the gelato, they are nice for storing things.
  6. Actually I was thinking of "The Long Good Friday", another excellent British movie, as being similar to "The Sopranos", though "Mona Lisa" is still a good movie. Rewatching "Blade Runner" I have to agree that it's largely style over substance--but what style!
  7. "Blood Simple" has a great last line, with M. Emmet Walsh saying, "If I see him, I'll sure give him the message."
  8. There is milk of magnesia. 🙂 And the milk of human kindness.
  9. I opted for the mail-in too (but a different test), for my last test. My last colonoscopy ended with me going into anaphylactic shock, the emergency room doctors being called in and ending in an overnight stay in the hospital (fortunately they finished the test before I turned blue).
  10. My mother couldn't make Jello. She wouldn't use boiling water. So we got "Jello rubber" on top of "Jello juice." Now that's disgusting! They say people are turned off by blue food, but it looks like red food's the real problem.
  11. It was banned for 72 years. https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/special-reports/dairy-crisis/2019/08/28/protect-dairy-industry-wisconsin-tried-keep-yellow-margarine-out-oleo-run/1950671001/
  12. Everyone I know who got the Shingrix shot had a bad reaction. I got the older shot, but my doctor keeps going back and forth on whether I need the Shingrix shots too.
  13. There's the big bottle of gross stuff and pills. If you get the big bottle, keep in in the fridge and keep your glass in the freezer, so the stuff is ice cold when you drink it. That kills the taste somewhat. Also have mints you can suck on after drinking to clear your palate. (I also suggest watching your diet for a few days before taking the test. Eating easily digestible foods and soups. Anything that's easy to get out again.)
  14. TCM's neo-noir series includes "Mona Lisa" on Friday night. If you haven't seen it, it's kinda of a British "Sopranos". Another excellent pick.
  15. I think they told me in the instructions not to eat or drink anything with red dye.
  16. As a kid I'd do a haunted house every year before Halloween (but charge admission), until the parents of the younger kids complained because I was scaring their little kids. The non-treat givers got a trick in my neighborhood.
  17. That was usually old ladies. They'd also hand out badly homemade popcorn balls.
  18. Do you live in Wisconsin? They used to not let yellow margarine in the state.
  19. Blommer Chocolate in Chicago used to sell a 10 pound chocolate bar. I lived near the Ferrara-Pan candy co. When I was young they had a fire and the gave away all the candy they had in storage (it was shortly after they opened), it was just Atomic Fireballs. I had two crates of them, one of the small size in boxes and one of loose jawbreakers. It took years to eat them all. I can't even look at an Atomic Fireball today. (Cheapskates in town tried to give them away for Halloween for years, we'd just walk away.)
  20. Historian Joe has a new book due out in April 2022 https://www.amazon.com/Saving-Union-Lincoln-Emancipation-Proclamation/dp/0062950541/
