Whether you buy it or not, the US did use a constitutional process in its invasion of Iraq. I'm not saying I agree with the invasion, but there are certain executive powers that have been constitutionally determined. Beyond that, while you may believe, and I would likely agree, that Iraq was invaded for reasons other than those given, the fact is that the reasons given would have been enough to legally, under our laws, been enough to go to war. Although, that again, is a process. While a president can send in troops on an executive order, continued funding of a war comes from Congress. However, putting someone in jail is generally a matter of due process, there is normally always a trial. Even for POW's, even for enemy combatants. I would say you are comparing apples and oranges. Where the Earth Republic has come into Definance, for even petty crimes there hasn't been a trial, there has only been someone being taken away to a prison. This is more reflective of the Nazi's. The declaration of war is another process entirely, and its not the same as due process which is afforded when someone has spray painted a dirty message on a wall, or spits at the Mayor, or expresses a counter point of view. In the United States if you do any of those, and/or worse, you are afforded due process, as far as I know. Nazi Germany, not so much. You disagreed with the Nazi's you were put in jail, you disagree with the United States government, they shrug their shoulders. You make a threat against the Nazi's, you go to jail, you make a threat against the US Government, you at least get the benefit of a trial. BTW, how many humans did you see in that jail? Because I don't remember seeing that many. It certainly seemed disproportionate to me, and if it is, well, that seems little reminiscent of Nazi work camps, IMO. But perhaps there were a ton of humans and I just didn't see them. Personally, I see more comparisons to the Nazis, but YMMV. As for Stahma, Datak has always been enamored with the old ways, which includes the Castian bible and/or religion. And Stahma has always been able to manipulate him regardless.

Season 16 Live Feed Discussion: Keeping an Eye Out

You can't possibly be telling me that after spraying bug spray all over a counter, and over cutting boards, and then using a floor broom to sweep the counter down that they didn't wipe the counters down with bleach or ammonia? Or even a little dish soap and water? Or wash down the cutting boards? No wonder they cast young, healthy people, I would be an absolute mess in that house. I come from tropical people. We can't handle the cold :) -
Yeah, I feel like in a few years I'll be able to send in an audition tape of me making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich my grandmother used to make for me and I'll be able to win the entire thing.

ugh, I just can't. Why Tim, I'm trying to forget!

There is no due process with the Earth Republic, we have due process, the Nazi's didn't. People are sent to jail without so much as a trial from what I've seen. The prison also has a little bit of the concentration camp feel to them. The ideal of the United States is a country comprised of all different sorts of people, which, in this show would translate to different species (I'm not saying that different races are different species, but right now, different races are as physically different as we can get), the Earth Republic only has, to my knowledge, one species working for it, which to me runs parallel to the Nazis who only wanted certain people to be part of their group. Physically, the Earth Republic uniforms look more like Nazi uniforms, IMO. I think the Nazis also used the fact that people, in a tough situation, can easily choose a bad leader. From my understanding, Hitler was given power after the first world war when Germany was economically depressed. The people were somewhat desperate for a leader that promised them a way to make things better. By the time they could see what a monster Hitler was, it was just too late. It seems to me, like a lot of people gave power to the Earth Republic because they were desperate after the war, and now its become this giant machine that does bad things even though it began with what was probably a good mission. But I can understand your argument. I think that Stahma would have continued to use her quiet, methodical manipulation of Datak if it hadn't been for Alak. She would have eventually gotten Datak killed or put in jail. But I think the situation with Alak pushed her to do something drastic and immediate. I'm unsure that if Datak had gotten out of jail and simply had a "forgive and forget" attitude that Stahma just wouldn't have allowed herself to fall back into her old role. She has always controlled Datak, he is useful to have as a cover and as a scapegoat. So perhaps it would have been just as easy for her to manipulate him again, so she could have him for a cover. Its almost better for her to not have to get her hands dirty. In controlling Datak, she has power, but without the risk. But I think the situation with Alak pushed all of that aside. At this point, she has already shown Datak's gang that she can control his business, she has the respect, but with Datak she would also have a scapegoat. And she has shown that she can control Datak if she needs to.

I would binge watch grass growing before binge watching Under the Gunn.

Season 16 Live Feed Discussion: Keeping an Eye Out

Ewww, I just can't. I get upset when people cough without covering their mouths. And you describing last year, is physically making my stomach churn. Wart chewing...oh man, oh man. As far as not showering for days, I don't get it, I just don't get it. I can't do bugs. I too am lazy, and I can be messy, but I think there is a line between messy (leaving clothes on the floor, shoes don't make it back into the closet) and gross. I don't veer into what I consider gross because I can't handle bugs. Thats why I really didn't mind when Devin called people out on leaving the kitchen filthy. Brittany got her panties in a bunch, but to me, if you don't want to be addressed like a recalcitrant child, don't behave like one, and part of being an adult is cleaning up your mess. Should you really expect for everyone else to do it? Because they should enjoy and appreciate the chance to clean up your crap? The only situation in which that would make sense is if there was someone cooking for the entire house and then they didn't want to do the dishes. I wonder if he is going to bring his entire family to the Chick-Fil-A to meet Amber. Now that would be interesting. -

well..nothing like heading into prison with a few STDs, memories of lap dances, and a wallet sized picture of your kids. -
Perhaps, but I think going for a german accent may be too obvious, even for a show that doesn't seem to mind being pretty obvious. What comments did Amanda make that made you think of British East India trading company? I'm just curious.

Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta - General Discussion

LOL - oh goodness no. I'm fine being judged, but I don't think I would admit to going to something like this, and I surely wouldn't be taping it with my cell phone. I was looking for a video of "Louie, Prada, Gucci" for the forum to snark on, but wound up with this video, which was second best. I don't know how old Karlie Redd is, but I know she is just too damn old for that outfit. At this point I'm sort of assuming she may be going through early menopause, because you know she is dying to push a baby out with a rapper so she can get some child support payments. And she seems so motivated, so I figure if she could still get pregnant, Mystikal or Rick Ross would be the proud father of Karlie Redd's baby. Yes, Stevie and Joseline getting sexy is not appealing, in fact, its downright stomach churning. Especially when a) she looks manly and b) they immediately cut to a TH of her discussing his "beefcake" and how great it is. -
I am 8 minutes in, and I now have a severe distaste for Selita Eubanks. First off, she seems very fake. Second, this show is Nev, Max, Catfisher and Catfishee. It works. Putting on someone who wants to pump up their fledgling acting career is just pathetic to the point of having this show jump the shark. Third, her "catfish" story sounded self serving "well, I'm so wonderful and awesome, and people want to be me, so someone created a fake profile with my pictures." Yes, we get it your'e a supermodel, people want to be you, can you please go somewhere else with all of that? Fourth, most catfishes are generally dealing with self esteem issues centered around their weight or how they look. Its why they choose to lie about their appearance. I can't think of a more asshole move than to bring along a supermodel to these meetings

Listen, if you haven't already been judged by your friends and family for even watching this nonsense, you don't have supportive people/judgmental people in your life. LMAO @ Karlie Redd in the studio - I can't believe she is still trying to make that happen. But here is a chance to judge me, and to judge Karlie Redd And it gives me hope, because it just goes to show that no matter how old you are, its still okay to wear embarrassing outfits, and touch yourself on stage. This is going to inspire me to buy something wholly age-inappropriate at Forever 21 tomorrow. -

I think its the room thats the hardest for me to fathom. No other HN room has seemed worse. When they had the airplane seat room, that didn't even seem that awful because I know when I've been on a commercial flight and had the entire row to myself I was easily able to sleep when I was tired. The padded room didn't seem that bad, even though the lights were always on and the beds were hard, if you got really tired I think you could put a towel over your eyes and fall asleep. But I can't envision a situation where I could fall asleep in a room where the beds are basically blocks of ice. -
That makes me like the scene even more. She is by far my favorite character on the show. You may have something there. I don't know that this show goes so lightly when trying to make comparisons. The Earth Republic seems to be the Nazi's. With the uniforms, the unquestioning loyalty to a cause, the evil means that they think justifies a good cause, the fact that they seemed to grow out of the extreme loss that humans faced after the war. The Castians seems to have a lot of similarities to some points of traditional Christianity. The man in charge of the household, the woman in a subserviant and chaste role, the use of the bible to sort of justify whatever a man would like to do, the crazy torture ritual that seemed a little like a burning at the stake, the focus on the male child as the heir. So its not so much of a stretch to think that something happened to Stahma while she was being drowned, in the way that there is a transformation that takes place during a traditional Christian baptism.

Phaedra Parks: Undertaker, Esq.

LOL - I had assumed he might be out on some sort of bail. He better hope no one has internet access in jail, although at the federal facility I visited I know they had computers. What does he even care what anyone has to say on twitter! He is either in jail, or going to jail, why doesn't he care about people he doesn't know who are leaving him 140 character messages!?!?? I don't know if I'm more disappointed in Apollo for actually caring about twitter, or for me entertaining his shenanigans! -

I'm confused, does Apollo have some sort of dedicated fan following? He seems like such a douche, I can't imagine him having a legion of fans who will "ride with" him. -
Season 16 Live Feed Discussion: Keeping an Eye Out

I actually think Devin has a lot of self esteem issues. I think thats why he inherently wants to boss people around, if you're the boss, people have to like you, or at least fear you enough to make you think they like you. He took Brittany off the block almost entirely based on her just coming to him and being nice. I think thats why any talk of backdooring him cut him to the bone, because he thinks that all of these people really like him, and are really his friends. The idea that they might like him if he just dropped his bullying and was real has probably never occurred to him. I think thats why he talks about his daughter ad naseum, I mean a person can care about their child and not discuss it as much as Devin, but I think he does that because he wants people to feel connected with him, and be his friend. I think the man is starved for friends. Oh good. And not just for the game, but for her as a human being. I may think her bowties and single alliance is a little ridiculous, but she seems to have a good heart, and I would hate to see someone get seriously ill. -
Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
RealityGal replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
In my nightmares that what I imagine Donald Trumps hair doing. Like Donald is sleeping and his hair just crawls off his head and is out doing his evil bidding. But seriously, that commercial is absolutely awful, the crawling hair looks like some sort of awful animal thats going to bite at any minute. How are women not freaked out by this? and yes bilgistic, I totally agree that its absolutely sexist and assholey to assume that women are going to be impressed with a guy who wins them a baby, just like its sexist to assume I want to protect fucking Yoplait yogurt. Cause I'm sure as a woman I have no aspirations in life other than giving birth and protecting a refrigerator full of nasty ass yogurt. And BTW, even if I want to have a kid, I don't want to have it with a guy who has haunted hair. -
Yes! Thats what he said, and it was a great scene because of the smile and because she was essentially doing some sort of needlework which looked like a spider weaving a web to catch prey in. You know, at the time, I thought it was just Stahma trying to get power for Daytak, and putting him above her child, but now that you say it, and in light of Stahma's recent badass moves, I can now see it that way. Stahma hides so much behind that mysterious smile and soft spoken nature, but the first real flash of anger that I think I've seen from her was when she found out Daytak messed up Alak's hand. I think if it weren't for the fact that she knows Alak would feel responsible if she killed Daytak for it, she might have had him killed in that tent.

Ugh, I don't know if thats Devin's gameplay or whatever, but now I feel a little sorry for him. Damn it! Maybe he has really learned something from being so universally hated in the house and can get better. You know, if she is being walked to the bathroom maybe it is time for her to go. I hate the idea of losing a woman, especially one that I've so little from, because she might turn out to be someone who eventually makes big moves, but I don't think anyone's health is worth it. Maybe she can come back next season, once they understand whats wrong with her or how she can better manage her health in the BB situation. How the hell is Devin not in a "best body" competition? If he has any saving grace, his body is at least 70% of it. -
Its tough because he was sooooo awful on that show, and awful in the way that is the exact opposite of what makes him normally so wonderful. Tearing people down instead of encouraging them. Being judgmental instead of understanding. I'm glad that PR didn't come on right after Under the Gunn, because I don't think I could have handled it, but I'm truly hoping that the Tim that I've grown to like so much comes back in full force next season, so I can just put it behind me. After all, if America can forget that Kim Kardashian is basically famous for making a sex tape with Brandy's brother, or that Paris Hilton came into the national spotlight for having a sex tape with some dude than hopefully I can forget about Tim Gunn being a jerk. I think it'll be tough, but I'm just hoping, for you, and for me that he is so amazing on PR that Under the Gunn will just seem like some crazy anomaly.
