That's a very good question! We know that Sera was a Sam/Jared girl, but that doesn't account for the rest - Kripke, Carver and Asshole. I think Kripke had Sam as his avatar (don't forget - Dean was supposed to be a sidekick brother character). Carver did write Demon Dean and MOC Dean while also giving us Jared's interpretation of an angel with a stick up his ass. And Asshole, who has zero talent in any capacity, was probably jealous of Jensen and listened to what Jared wanted - except of course when it came to his real HERO -JACK! Then, all bets were off. I should know better than to mention him - raises my blood pressure! 👿

Apparently with the writers and showrunner we had at the time, it was! Sera was obsessed with Sam (Jared?) and wanted everything to revolve around him. The soulless storyline was supposed to last the entire season, but maybe someone (Kripke?) shortened it to a half-season. Then in S7, her intent was to kill off Cas for good - no resurrection. That way, Sam could be even more of the focus. I don't think she disliked Dean/Jensen, she just didn't care about him or his story. That's pretty sad for a showrunner, but as we know it can get a helluva lot worse!!!

I've always felt the same way about that scene - which was the writer's intent, IMO. But I also was really pissed that the writers spent all of S4 setting Dean up as the Righteous Man - presumably to be the only one to save the world, but wait, it's Sam!! I also believe that Kripke's original intended ending was both the boys being possessed by their respective archangels, overcoming them with love for one another, and jumping into the cage to save the world and humankind. Considering how this series turned out, maybe that wouldn't be so bad. However, we would have missed fabulous scenes from Jensen - ten years of them! 🙁

My, how our boy has changed. I attended the very first Salute to Supernatural Con in Chicago in November of 2007. The panels were separate - Jensen and Jared each had a 20 minute panel, and then combined for another 20 or 30 minutes. Jared was always rambunctious and outgoing, but Jensen was reserved and quiet for the most part, especially when he was on stage alone. No judgment here, just differing personalities. In subsequent years, Jensen started to become more comfortable, fooling around a bit, more at ease with the fans, but he still wouldn't sing even a few bars. So when I look at this vid above, watch some panels online and see Jensen enjoying it all so much, it makes me very happy to see how he's evolved. I believe these Cons have made it easier for him to interact with all the people that he has/will deal with in his career.

I simply don't understand this. He has zero talent IMO, and how can they love the man that sunk the unsinkable, longest running genre show in America? Makes me think twice about any so-called "critics". 👿 -
We've known for a long time that Jensen has an aging portrait hidden in his attic! 😉

I'm sorry to hear about a mobility issue that prevents you from doing something you'd enjoy. My daughters (one Dean girl; one Sam girl) and I attended their first convention in Chicago many, many years ago. My Dean girl daughter and I have attended at least six Chicago conventions since them including ones with photos. What stopped us going was the increasing obnoxious questions in the boys panel and the yelling out loud from the audience - which we thought was very rude. We were fortunate that we could afford the prices (and we just bought a ticket for Sunday, since we only live about 15 miles from the convention centers). But seeing him in person and standing next to Jensen for a photo was a wonderful experience.

Re: bolded. This is, IMO, something Jensen brought into the storyline all on his own. I feel very certain that there was nothing in any script that said: "Dean: feeling the effects of the MoC, lashes out..." Jared acts what's written on the page with little to no additions to fit Sam's character. One of the reasons that Dean Winchester is such an iconic character is precisely because Jensen knows the character and imbues the character with every emotion possible in context with the scene. By doing that, we get into Dean's head and heart - which I believe is the reason the character is so loved by so many. -
Let's face it, Creation Ent. has priced itself out of most fans' pockets. Covid is still raging, albeit with fewer deaths, but still a threat to anyone with health issues. The main stars of a popular show have more to do than fly to conventions, take photos and otherwise possibly expose themselves to Covid. These two main factors will definitely limit the success of Creation going forward.

I think that Butcher made a big mistake with Ryan (under the influence of TempV). If Soldier Boy or a "secret weapon" fail to kill Homelander, I think Ryan is the only one who could kill a fully sociopath Homelander for the sake of the humans. With loving care such as he had with his mother, Ryan can keep his human side front and center, but Butcher put a larger dent in that with accusing Ryan of killing his mother. To me, it was obvious that Ryan really likes Butcher and maybe thinks of him as a father image, so Butcher should have found a gentle way to say he has to stay away from Ryan for his safety.

He went onto another show as showrunner and had to write/prepare it for the season. I think it was "Being Human"? But I'm not sure, it's just that he had to focus on that. TPTB must have approved it, knowing that he would be leaving regardless. I don't think they change the credits during a season or it could be that he could do that job, but not showrunner.

There's a long, long list of problems because of Dabb, but to me, the worst was turning Chuck into God. And not only God, but one who was a puppet master and supposedly "wrote" every action, choice, thought, etc. that his "favorite characters" did. That to me is by far, why they never, never ever should have put that asshole in charge of anything. But since I simply ignore S12-15 as Chuck's wet dream, I can still enjoy watching the re-runs of the show and still thoroughly enjoy watching DeanfuckingWinchester.

Jensen mentioned in a con/interview that the last three episodes of S11 were a mess and didn't gel at all. He said that both he and Jared had to sit down with the writers and Dabb to make them cohesive. Dabb was definitely running the show at that time. And the fact that his stars had to do this, should have given TPTB a clue that maybe he wasn't the best choice for showrunner. What a bunch of dumb-asses.👿

This X1000. Jensen is a fantastic actor - I believe the best of his generation. He deserved so, so much more from TPTB throughout the series. They should have been thrilled to death that he could build his character into one for the ages. Instead, it seemed like they resented him for that very thing. His facial expressions alone are legendary. Did you ever mute the sound and just watch him? I have, and it's something to behold. (of course I know what's going on because I've seen the episodes so many times) It is my opinion that without Jensen Ackles playing the character of Dean, this show would have lasted only a couple/few seasons. For all TPTB touting that Sam was the star of the show, it was Dean who carried it on his broad shoulders, who made people want to come back and see more.

MAK said: But I don't think Kripke respected Dean enough to do that. It seemed that he still considered Sam "the hero," even though he knew how much more depth Dean's character had. If memory serves, Kripke considered Dean to be a sidekick/comedy relief type of character. If you watch the first few episodes, that is Dean's main purpose. However, he and IMO, Kim Manners, realized the potential that the character had with Jensen putting so many nuances into Dean. So slowly, Jensen got more interesting scenes to play to bring Dean's character into the wonderful one we watched for so many seasons. But no, Kripke didn't originally know how much more depth Dean's character had. Even so, Kripke looked at Sam as the hero of the story as did the storylines throughout the series. Also, as others mentioned, Kripke's original ending was both of the brothers hosting the respective archangels, and jumping into the cage and saving the world from everything I've ever heard.

We were never shown/told that John knew about the Campbells. Sam found out that most/all of Mary's family died in early S3 from Ruby, so they may have been long gone. As far as Bobby was concerned we saw his memories of Dean - maybe about 10-12 - playing catch instead of doing target practice. So that would say John knew Bobby about six years or so after he started hunting.
-
I know you're talking about Jared here, but I can't imagine why ANYONE would want to work on a show with Dabb who has no business being the producer/showrunner of anything. Anyone who treats a lead actor the way he treated Jensen should be drummed out of the business. Period!!!!! And if Jared did want what you mentioned, IMO, he's no friend to Jensen at all.
-
He was, almost to a fault. Jensen often referred to the crew as family and (I believe) accepted a lot in order to keep the show going and people working. I think the final straw was the way they treated the Michael storyline after touting it being a big deal in S14. IMO, where Jensen made his mistake was giving Badd another season to assassinate Dean's character and the show in general. I think he and Jared should have told them to re-write the S14 finale and make it a series finale.
-
This times 1000!!! If I were Jensen after that public fiasco of a post from Jared, I would have nothing to do with him in the future. Even if Jared had a few words of "we're okay" days later, the harm would be done. And apparently, reading these posts today, the harm is still raging. So much for "brothers".
-
You forgot "Chief Sam" who was the leader of all the refugees from another world. And I especially loved Badd's depiction of Sam's specialness in his bearded misery. Let's not forget that Dean was mostly out of the picture (and definitely out of the bunker in the premier because Dean's presence "soaks up all the oxygen in the room and this way the other characters (Sam) can breathe freely." No kidding, he actually said that about his co-lead.
-
That's so sad as well. Some of his earliest "humor'' was not my cup of tea, but he really became (in my eyes) one of the best writers in the room. If you didn't know, it was his idea to create the bunker as a home base for the boys (vs.all the motel rooms) and showcased it his episode "Everyone Hates Hitler" in S8. I personally, have loved having the bunker in the story. But I did miss the crazy motifs of the various motels too.

Supernatural Bitterness & Unpopular Opinions: You All Suck
FlickChick replied to mstaken's topic in Supernatural
That quote is referring to Dean (Jensen) doing his own fighting in "First Born". The "demon" that he was fighting until the end and killed on the table was Jensen's stunt double. Or as DeeDee said while I was typing! :) -
Welcome! You might enjoy going through each episode (in the better years) and seeing what others think and had to say. Re: Dabb and Berens: there are a great deal of us who share your opinions on those two twits. And Singer as well, but he isn't a writer, so a little less involved in the trash. Some, myself included, call Dabb "Badd" which we feel is more apt.
