So people can flee the downtown area before it gets crazy. I know I'd appreciate that if ever I was foolish enough to actually attend anything downtown on July 4th.
  2. About the time this thread started, I got my monthly magazine from the Baseball Hall of Fame, and this movie was the cover story. I tried to go and get the link online, but it wasn't up yet. Now it is. http://baseballhall.org/discover/25-years-after-a-league-of-their-own Interesting and fun reading about the exhibits in the HoF and about the movie itself.
  3. Can I be really shallow for a moment and say that I find Nico's laugh a bit annoying? I find his laugh a bit annoying.
  4. Honestly, Mr ebk loves flank steak and I can take it or leave it (but don't tell him - if he didn't cook, I'd be eating Chunky Soup every night). Tonight, we had roast chicken, rice and broccoli... a perfect meal! And I had some more lovely rose,
  5. One of our favorites restaurants in Baltimore has a bottle on the menu with a stopper. We were encouraged to take it home after we finished the wine because it would make a great bottle for olive oil, or something else. It's still sitting on our kitchen counter. It's a nice bottle. The wine was pretty good, too.

Happy 150th Birthday to our northern neighbors! We're going to the game today - Zach Britton 'heads! Too bad he's unavailable to pitch...
  7. It's headed here sometime in the next 2 months. I'll see if I can score a slightly discounted ticket. Thanks for the recommendation. I just never know how the tour casts hold up.
  8. So I did have a balanced dinner the other night by sticking just to the wine! Tonight I had leftover flank steak and crack potatoes. And the rest of the rose!!
  9. I'm so sorry to hear that. Condolences to you and your family.
  10. So far, a lovely glass of rose. I should eat some food, but I just can't decide what leftovers I want to heat up. Or if I want to bother at all... Actually, last night we had flank steak and those little potatoes, roasted in oil and salt. I call them crack potatoes because they're like crack - I can't stop eating them. There are some left somehow. Maybe I'll heat those up. Or maybe I'll just pour some more wine. Or both.

That's awful. He was way younger than me. I remember his losing streak and actually felt bad for him while it was happening...even though I hate the Mets. RIP
  12. Ledo's pizza. If you live in the DC area, you know... yum!
  13. Mr ebk in his place of business (and my former place of business). It won't be the same without all those bags and ropes. http://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2017/06/23/bye-bye-hemp-and-sand-national-theatre-prepares.html

The NLBM is wonderful. We were there on that Louisville-St Louis-KC-some other city trip that I mentioned. The America Jazz Museum is in the same building (or it was in 1998), but we didn't get to see it because they were having a private event the day we were there. I'd like to check it out on our return trip. And eat more BBQ. We also hit the Truman Library since it seems there are a bunch of presidential libraries in baseball cities, so we always visit those. The Truman site is quite nice - small, but interesting and informative. I hope you have fun here in Baltimore...but not too much fun :-) We'll be there on the 23rd. It's a shame you won't be there on the 23rd so I could offer you some $$ for the bottle stopper set you'll be getting on the 22nd. Ah well... That will be right after we get home from Florida where I will see a Marlins game and knock another stadium off my list. Only 3 more to go.
  15. Thanks for this. I'm happy there will be encore showings since I'll be out of town for the Part One.
  16. Leftover Indian food - my chicken shahi korma with the rest of the rice from Mr. ebk's lamb biryani (he picked out all of the lamb, of course).

Went to the game today. Os scored 8 and barely held on...but they did. And, I didn't melt, although that was touch and go for a while. And it's only June.

I swear the Os have to score at least 20 runs to win these days.
  19. Honestly, no wine pairs well with any yogurt. The deal is to eat the yogurt, drink some water, then start on the chips (regular tortilla chips) before you pick up the wine. I'm drinking a lovely rose, which pairs well with chips. Mr ebk had already eaten by the time I got home. So I do what I'm capable of doing when he isn't cooking for me - eating what's easily available. I'm adaptable. Tonight I went to a work social event and had some fabulous local beers. Fortunately, there was some wonderful roasted chicken waiting for me when I got home.
  20. I was always told that "high tea" was more of a meal and "afternoon tea" was scones and crustless cucumber sandwiches. Not that you can't fill up on scones and tiny sandwiches, but that's allegedly more refined. When I was in London lo these many years ago, it was billed as "afternoon tea." There's a place in Baltimore, Bertha's (home of the bumper sticker "Eat Bertha's Mussels"), that serves "high tea". It really is a meal. On topic, dinner tonight was lemon yogurt and chips. And wine, of course.

I was at that game. It was the last game of the season on our plan and we left the next day to drive to Kansas City, St Louis and... I think Pittsburgh, stopping in Louisville on the way to see the Bat Factory. As we were leaving the game, I wanted to write down the seats I was considering trying to move to the next season, so I did it on the back of my ticket, which I put somewhere. We were listening to the game the next day on the radio and Cal wasn't playing. And as much as I looked, I could never find that ticket to save (even though I think I have all of the millions of other games I've been to). Mark McGwire did not hit the record breaking home run while we were in St Louis either. But we still had a good time. (and as I'm writing this, something about that timeline feels wrong, but this is my story and I'm sticking to it!)

You're not a dick because of that. If you're trying to find reasons to talk yourself out of going, don't go. I will say that sometimes the thought of the driving and parking and the expense of the beer/food and dealing with all the stupid people who are there make me want to stay home forever. But once I'm there, there's nowhere else I'd rather be. Even if the team sucks. Really.
  23. It's the first time in years it's gone overtime. I don't think CBS would stand for anything else.
  24. Agree! It wasn't the best Tony show ever, but an enjoyable evening. The Emmys it is!! I'll have more wine by then.
  25. Patti! I thought Kevin did a great job.
