Great episode. Loved all the little details they put in, like lil’ Ian reading CW’s books and lil’ Poppy doing the “dinner party” hands. Casting was perfect too

I’m fine with the win of Nick and Stacey, as they were just judging based on that challenge only. The nostalgic bookcase was a great build, but they were definitely lagging some of the other teams throughout the rest of season though. Stephen and Stephen, I think, we’re the strongest and most consistent builders of the three teams and Dave and Emily was on an upwards trajectory the last few episodes. The Stephens mountain build was just kind blah, imo, though. Dave and Emily’s was fun and would’ve won in a city or scene build, for sure. Honestly I would’ve been fine with just about any team winning, but Nick and Stacy’s was great.

When they announced that teams were combining for this challenge, you just knew it would be a non-elimination episode. Kinda weak challenge though, imo. Basically build a frame and put some “deckals” on it? Not too exciting. Can’t believe they literally had one of the Stephans just sitting around at the pit stop, though. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I think it’s time for a whole new crew, judges and presenters. Just a clean sweep.

I usually find celebrity-themed competition shows hard to get through, but I thought the celebrity Great American Baking Show was pretty good. Ellie and Zach did ok as hosts and I didn’t know a couple of the celebrities but they all seemed like decent people who were having a lot of fun.

Exactly my thought too. If I had been homeschooled all through my life, I’d want to get away and strike out on my own as well. But you can tell there’s a co-dependent relationship going on there though.

Just a bit weird for a mother to move across the country to where her son is going to college.

Boy, you would’ve thought Emily and Liam were being sent off to die in war by the somber goodbyes they got. But no, just voted off a game show back to their privileges lives. I, for one, am glad they’re gone. I mean, he decides to go to college in Tucson and his mom moves there with him? Sorry, that’s kinda creepy. Anywho, I think Nick and Stacey are next to go; they’ve been on the bubble for a while now. Happy to see Dave and Emily have really risen through the ranks.

Not the greatest episode but I did enjoy that they mixed up the pairings a little bit: Poppy, Rachel, and Jo; Carol and Brad; Ian and Dana. And of course, David and his candy-and-clothing friend!

They definitely telegraphed the entire show that Liz and Erin would be the ones to go home and at least that was the right choice this week. Their build was certainly the weakest. Mom and son team continue to annoy me. Counting the weeks before they’re sent home. Also definitely not liking the arrogance of the TikTok boys. They can get off my screen any time.

I think just as people are getting sick of Janusz’s drip decoration, they’re getting sick of Syabira always doing either cocktail or Malaysian flavors. Same went for Chetna back in series 5, who almost always did Indian flavors. It’s certainly not bad to use ingredients one is used to baking with, but some contestants get caught in a rut.

Loved this build! I do think the other team should’ve gone home. They barely even made it to the dog walk, while Jon and Xavier’s at least started down. Would’ve loved also if they had used rescue dogs or had a a PSA about a rescue org, but maybe that’s just my dog-loving nature coming out.

Episode 4 showed up on Hulu for me this morning.

Ruby chocolate was a “flash in the pan” fad, too, a few seasons back. Funny how these trends come and go.

Meta is great, but meta-meta is exhausting. The problem I've had with this series is everything is just too "look at what I'm doing here!" and not enough just doing it. Subvert the Marvel tropes, please, but we don't need so much of the "hey y'all, check out the way I subvert the tropes!" If you have to explain everything you do on screen, you've lost the thread. WandaVision certainly didn't do that. It created a multi-episode world that didn't try to explain itself, but let what was happening on screen speak for itself and unravel naturally. And also we get a She-Hulk fight scene in the last episode, but the finale is "MCU fight scenes are stupid"? Come on.

Guess I’m in the minority. I really liked season 3 and appreciated why they didn’t do a “where are they now” segment. As much as I loved the characters and have fun imagining what might be, this show was about them entering and being ready (or not) for adulthood, tackling late teen problems with the abandon and hardheadedness of their late teens. That’s why these characters were so real for me: despite the wacky circumstances they got into, they seemed like real kids - kids I might have actually known when I was their age. I’m sure Lisa McGee has a great sense of what each are doing now, but I enjoy my own imaginations of them. And really, to me, that’s what matters.

The show really came together this week and had some focus that actually seemed to move the story along. Are we going to find out that creepy Wakanda-loving dude is the mastermind (?) behind all this? Seems like they’re putting him in that space.

Compare the way this show treats gender to, say, Brooklyn 99, where the humor comes from each characters’ human flaws, but at the same time they’re treated with agency and respect. And yet that show dealt with tough issues without putting others down. Even those on B99 that showed prejudices (thinking of Rosa’s parents, for example) weren’t pushed down. They were shown to be wrong but did it in a way that respected their journey (which in that case did end with them coming around to Rosa’s sexuality). Anyway, back to She-Hulk…

Look, I’m all for having this show shine light on the plight of women in an our world. But this is show just getting ham-handed in it. These lawyers were incredibly negligent in their work and it didn’t show them in a good light They should’ve not taken the case rather than literally colluding with the victims instead of representing Mr. Immortal (who admittedly is a creepy a-hole). But frankly, this is also why I’m fairly certain Josh is going to turn out to be a bad guy. Because why miss another opportunity to show that even nice seeming men are terrible, evil people with ulterior motives all the time?

So I generally enjoy this show and totally agree that Will takes up way too much airtime. But honestly, the times they show Amy and Jamie with the contestants, it’s all valid nonsense. Their advice is always something vague like “let your personality shine through.” And it’s the same for every interaction. I’d love to see them use their expertise to advise contestants on how to better make a part move or make a strong build without adding weight. It’s just all vagueness. But maybe there’s just not time for that.

An Extra Slice is on Roku Channel as well, but only episodes from 2014-2016, which I believe is series 5-7.

Really interesting catching up with season 1, having never seen it before here in the US. I came to GBBO in the 5th season (i think) and there's so much familiar in season 1, yet many things that were certainly not developed yet. A lot of music that has stayed with the show the entire series, yet also some that got dropped pretty early. Also, you could tell that even during the first season, they were starting to refine the structure of the show from week to week. Most surprising? Paul was actually the first one to utter the words "soggy bottom."

Thank you for this! I’m excited to see those first two seasons as well. Watched S1E1 today and was glad to know the Sue and Mel’s original history sections were still included.

Or that one kid that yells “I’m built different”. I’m like, dude, you’re built lean and athletic, just everybody else. Get over yourself. Plus learn some grammar.
