  1. That point comes through in the book. In the mini-series, not so much.
  2. I really enjoyed the novel, but this adaptation was a disappointment. They watered down all the characters to the point where it was hard to care about any of them. More importantly, there were no stakes. The main point of the screenwriter seemed to be, "yes, even people in cute English villages can be assholes." Ok, but that's not a story. Ugh, the whole thing just frustrated the hell out of me.
  3. So, what's going on with Bill? Is that lady Nora really his wife? And what merchandise was he collecting in that alley? I have a feeling all that is going to be misdirection and Bill will turn out to be a nice guy after all. Yawn. Elizabeth's friend Charles seems like a nice guy, but I found myself zoning out during their scenes.
  4. I am watching "True North." Bellamy Young is good as the perp in this one. Indeed! I'm glad I at least get to see those seasons on Sundance.
  5. Agreed. If Real struggled to unlock Atleti's defense, I shudder to think how they'll cope with Juve's.
  6. I LOVE New York Raining! One of my favorites on the soundtrack.
  7. I'm hoping for a Juve-Bayern final. I don't think I can take a UCL final Clasico.
  8. 'Gotham' Ad Promoting 'Empire' Is Batman Level Genius or Insane
  9. On NBCSN, Rebecca Lowe & Co. talked about the new PL concussion protocols. The new protocols are as follows: But as the NBCSN folks pointed out, none of this was followed with regard to Oscar's injury during the Arsenal-Chelsea match. I don't know if there are any punishments for clubs that don't follow these protocols. ETA: The Premier League is still not following its own concussion protocols
  10. I feel you, JustaPerson. I was rooting for Arsenal to beat Chelsea. As much as I loathe them, Chelsea defended exceptionally in that match. That said, I don't think Arsenal played too badly. It's just a shame they couldn't find a way through the Chelsea defense.
  11. One of my favorites: Sophia is about to be interviewed by a nun because she wants to join a convent. Nun: We find psychological tests useful in our work, too. It helps us weed out the weirdos and crazies. Dorothy: Sorry Ma.
  12. While I enjoyed the season opener, I'm not sure it needed to be 2 hours long (this is a big pet peeve of mine with all the shows I watch; season premieres and finales really don't need to be 2 hours long. But I digress.) Elizabeth's family annoyed me greatly. Her Mom and younger sister were the only ones I could tolerate. Also, I wonder if we'll see Jack's younger brother, Tom again. The new storylines for the season have been set up really well: the timber business, the tug of war between Elizabeth's life in Coal - sorry Hope Valley and her family in Hamilton, whatever romance will happen between Abigail and Bill. I'm genuinely interested in seeing how all of this plays out.
  13. Glad to have this show back. Elizabeth and Jack's little horse riding lesson was cute. Also nice to see Laura Mennell as the prosecutor. I could do without Rosemarie, though.
  14. I'm glad Real went through, and due to the unlikeliest of heroes - Javier Hernandez. That Bayern result had my jaw on the floor. It's like they got mad at everyone for doubting them.
  15. I adored Lupo. He was good with Bernard, but I really loved his brief partnership with Green. They were great together.
  16. Judge Rebecca Steinman is everything. Her deadpan snark is the best!
  17. I noticed that Empire is always on the Hulu homepage, um, you know, when I go there to watch other shows ;-)
  18. They are the best! Their snark gives me life. Speaking of judges, can I praise Judge Rebecca Steinman (played by Susan Blommaert)? I wish I had that woman's deadpan delivery and frosty glare.
  19. That Chelsea win was quintessential Mourinho: do just enough to win but no more than that. The game was kind of meh, but it was good game management from Chelsea.
  20. I always forget how disturbing an episode "Performance" is.
  21. I didn't expect Porto to beat Bayern. Give them a game, yes, but beat them 3-1? The second leg is gonna be mighty interesting. As for Real Madrid, something tells me they're going to regret not finishing those chances vs. Atletico in the first leg.
  22. I have decided that I want season 2 to open with Jamal giving Oprah an interview, in which he discusses his first couple of months as the head of Empire and updates us on what the rest of the Lyon fam has been up to since Daddy Dearest was arrested. Make this happen for me show.
  23. They weren't too bad in the early part of the match. But yeah, then United took over.
  24. Jennifer was a lot of fun in this episode. "Today the dodo. Tomorrow the unicorn." Ha! Don't ever change, Jennifer.
  25. I feel some type of way about Cassie & Cole being kept 28 years apart.
