  1. Definitely not a fan of Mattea’s chattiness but I was surprised at how sad I was to see her lose last night. I hoped she would hang on for at least one more game. Got Claudius and Poldark as I’ve read books about both but FJ was a complete blank.
  2. Back home only one shop bagged groceries (the posh one we never went to) which is why we got into the habit of doing the weekly shop together. I unpacked the cart and he started packing the scanned items. There were on occasion charity bag packers, typically teens raising money for a sports club or other group. The trick was to hand over the donation first and ask them to let you pack your own things. It was safer that way.
  3. My take was they are looking for a younger audience and that’s what drove things like Mayim’s hosting gig and the other changes I’ve noticed. My husband still insists on watching but I read or play games on my phone until it’s over most days. It’s becoming a show I really dislike.
  4. Don’t know if you’ve seen this @Leeds, but Comic Relief this year did a send up of The Repair Shop with Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, and Judi Dench. It’s on YouTube and it really is hilarious! They’ve picked up on all the bits I found annoying.
  5. My hair used to be curly but has become rather straight. I also bought hair cutting clips with levels along with hair scissors and thinning shears to feather the edges. They’ve paid for themselves many times over already!
  6. Yes! We usually just call it Paddy’s Day. No. In fact they started closing the Dublin pubs until later in the day because of the drunken chaos in the city as it’s a holiday and people were drinking from early morning. So the drink-fest isn’t particularly North American. You’re absolutely right. The only time I’ve seen corned beef and cabbage was in places catering to tourists. It’s an American-ism I suppose. Officially the day is Lá Fhéile Pádraig and Paddy is the short version of Pádraig. It’s just a pet peeve of mine.
  7. It’s time for this pet peeve again. I cringe every time I hear someone call it “Patty’s Day”!
  8. I remember being thankful I didn’t have to SAY the word “paradigm” until after I heard it used. There are a whole list of words pronounced differently in the US than back home, some are spelled differently too. Separated by a common language and all that!
  9. I got Wagner’s Ring Cycle. That production of Die Walkure lives on my DVR permanently. My brain only went as far as Katherine… um… um before the buzzer. I had La Boheme but not Rent, husband said Rent straight away but didn’t get the association.
  10. If you want to hear about EASY… “In autumn 1979 the Irish minister for the environment Sylvester Barrett introduced an amnesty for all holders of a second provisional licences in an effort to cut waiting lists for the driving test. It’s believed approximately 45,000 motorists took up the amnesty. At the time Mr Barrett defended the decision by saying that these drivers were not inexperienced as they had already had an earlier provisional licence, had been on the road for several months and in many cases had sat the test. He was right: 15,000 had sat the test – and failed it. The rest hadn’t even bothered with a test.” I have a family member who got an amnesty license. I did not (as I passed my test a few years earlier) and have resented it for many years.
  11. The Irish test had reversing around the corner, hill start, and the 3 point turn. Pretty sure they’re all still required!
  12. Only Amy and Tammy are Slatons, they had a different father. I’d continue watching the older siblings but these two are lost causes and I’m done watching them. (Mind you I’ll still read this forum!) As much as Amy whinges about being a “good mom” she doesn’t have much interest in keeping a clean house and learning to cook healthy food. Taking Tammy in will just be her new excuse.
  13. If she replaced “I’m a(n actual) neuroscientist” with “I have a doctorate in neuroscience” it would be accurate and doesn’t strike me as pretentious since it’s a fact. Some writer might have scripted that line for her annoying vitamin ad but she still seems to describe herself that way. I have a younger family member who holds degrees in microbiology. Their jobs have never been in that field. They will say their degrees are in microbiology but have never claimed to BE a “microbiologist”. Must go watch last night’s Call Me Kat now, not to try keeping her from the permanent daytime hosting gig but that would be a bonus.
  14. Mine saw the first episode and declared it a soap that used the basic premise / characters of the books and the original show. I still “watch” but am usually doing something else at the same time so I don’t pay much attention. The HD scenery is beautiful, otherwise I mightn’t bother. The original is on BritBox and is just comforting to watch. Peter Davison was the perfect Tristan!!
  15. France, papacy… automatically Avignon. Didn’t pay much attention to the rest of the game as I was multi-tasking at the time but I certainly heard the WRONG answer of Lake “Cuomo” and was shocked they didn’t correct it. I really miss Ken’s hosting but wonder if Mayim is being directed to play up being extra expressive to make it more “exciting” or something. I really like her as an actress in the shows I’ve seen - yes, even Call Me Kat - but prefer Ken’s more laid back approach to hosting. My feeling is that the producers are trying to change the show to attract newer younger audiences, which is obviously not me, and Mayim’s performances are a part of that. The ads for the college tournament have me shuddering, it’s not for me at all.
  16. She is. I just chose it as a number she could easily get to if she tried (and it’s exactly 100 more than her actual “goal weight” (😂🤣) which she will never see. After all she doesn’t want to be anorexic!
  17. Amy has reached her real goal - having children - and she'll use pregnancy and motherhood as reasons she can't change her eating habits. I don't see her ever getting below 250, never mind reaching 150. Tammy is a lost cause so there's no point even commenting on her. Chris is the only one of the three who has a chance.
  18. None of them have the slightest interest in nutrition or learning how to eat for health. Amy doesn't care about being healthy or reaching her goal weight, she just wants to stay mobile and have babies. Yeah Amy admitting to Tammy that she has a spare room was a poor choice that may come back to bite her. "Queen" "TamTam" was depressing to watch. She's just as nasty and abusive to her family as ever and her "friends" don't care about her.
  19. That should be fun! With all those cheat days we’ve seen on camera (who’s she kidding, every day is an Amy Cheat Day!) I can already see Dr. Proctor’s disappointed look.
  20. I couldn’t watch this nasty toddler (with apologies to actual toddlers who have a BILLION times more emotional intelligence that this horrible “woman”) try to justify her tantrums. They spend far too much time catering to her whims and I’m not sure I can watch her abuse her family much longer. But I really enjoyed the scenes of the rest of them having fun on their vacation (except all their mentions of her). Back in season 1 when Tammy pretended she cared about losing weight (and actually did) she was much more tolerable.
  21. A number of countries have stopped using the 1 and 2 cent coins. What I miss are the euro coins; dollar bills are very annoying to me.
  22. I understand perfectly and agree. I don’t believe I have ever cooked on a baking tray without a foil lining.
  23. Tammy is unredeemably nasty and abusive to her family. And yes, I wouldn’t be surprised if Gage refers to Amy as “b****” instead of “Mommy”.
  24. We’ve a collection of various currencies my father collected over the years when he travelled around the world in the 1950s, he handed them over to my husband years ago. Euro and Sterling are currencies we use when we’re back home so they don’t count as collectables, I did keep some Irish punts though and didn’t trade them in. (I’m not alone as there’s something like €350m in old currency still out there 20 years later!)
