  1. Yes, there's a medley of Cain't Say No and Oklahoma
  2. Well that is how that number goes across, but like I said above, you need to have seen the whole production to see how they got there. The conception of the production is how one might stage this show if you had never seen it before or knew anything about it. Just looking at the text, with a 2019 eye, what is this story about, really.
  3. Probably not, or in a very brief montage. There was a ceremony earlier this week. Jason Danieley accepted it. http://www.playbill.com/article/watch-jason-danieley-accepts-the-late-marin-mazzies-special-tony-award?utm_source=Iterable&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=PlaybillPost
  4. Well, they sold one ticket here (well, at least, if I can get/afford one). And I've seen a number of other performances from the show on various shows and nothing had enticed me before. (though I really liked Anais Mitchell's performance of The Wall at BroadwayCon)
  5. Also, the title song was a bad choice for Oklahoma. You can only appreciate that interpretation of it if you've seen the whole production. No sure what would have been better, though.
  6. The Prom should have performed "It's Not About Me"
  7. It is entirely different. The text is (almost) all the same, but it is played in entirely new ways. I can't really explain specifics, it just has to be experienced.
  8. By the end of the episode, it was clear this was not where they were going, but did anyone else feel that there was a "connection" between Nurse Crane and Miss Higgins. Miss H was bringing flowers, and cards and Nurse C seemed to really like her. When this thought came to me, it then also re-framed a lot of the interactions between her and Patsy, and her being (surprisingly) nonplussed that Patsy and Delia were romantically involved (am I remembering all that correctly?). This also would have explained why Nurse C was not into Sgt Woolf (though, yes, there was the Spanish class guy). Also, since she's not into him, what is the point of the Sgt?
  9. Sadly, that's only for international Netflix. It's still just Seasons 1-4 in the US. (which is why I am grateful to people on YouTube for posting all my favorite David/Patrick scenes, because yes, I watch them on an almost daily basis)
  10. I loved that Paul Shaffer was playing at their "old life" Christmas party. He was the music director of a now-famous production of Godspell in Canada that starred many of the SCTV cast, including Eugene Levy. Nice of this old friend to appear on the show. https://dangerousminds.net/comments/the_legendary_toronto_production_of_godspell_that_had_half_the_cast_of_sctv
  11. Wow, wow, wow. This show just makes my heart feel good. Every moment of the storyline with Patrick's parents was just perfect. I've heard Dan Levy say that they deliberately do not have any characters react negatively to David (or David and Patrick) because bigotry does not deserve a platform, even if it's there to get knocked down. I was a little worried about the parents and was so relieved that that wasn't the case. From Johnny's run to try to fix this, to David coaxing the truth out of Patrick, to David offering love and support and comfort to Patrick, to David trying to make things right with the parents, to arranging things so Patrick still got to come out on his own, to Patrick telling David that he knew they knew and David coming totally clean, it was absolutely perfect. Everyone acting like real, lovely people. I think I need to go watch this episode again right now, even though I am dying to finish my binge.
  12. Just got to this episode in my binge and I totally loved it. The whole baseball story was great, and really fun to see them playing. Just wanted to clarify a few confusions above about the Cabaret rehearsal. They say at the beginning that it is just for the Kit Kat Girls (and anyone who wanted more rehearsal time (Bob)). That explains why Patrick, Ronnie, and everyone else is not there. Also, since they are doing the stage version of Cabaret, the "romantic" lead is named Cliff (not Brian). And yes, I don't think we've met the person playing him yet.
  13. I'm currently bingeing this show for the first time, and totally loving it. I just had to pop in here to express my love for the David/Patrick first kiss scene. I've actually watched it more than a few times now, and always have a smile on my face. It's so sweet, and the acting is so amazing for both. There is so much on their faces in the long silences that say SO MUCH! It is just a perfect scene, and I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.
  14. Oh I don't know about that. My best friend has CP, so I recognize it in others (and some of Ryan's movements were very similar to hers, which was interesting) but he's told everyone that his accident caused his physical differences, so why would anyone have reason to question that?
  15. The whole thing is available on FOX.com now, for those who missed it. There's even a nonsensical announcement that "the cast is waiting to step on stage in just a few moments." I don't understand why they put the "this is actually the rehearsal" announcement after the first segment and not before it started.
  16. It clears up after about 8 minutes. Fast forward.
  17. Ok, so apparently they are performing the show live as a concert for the studio audience. They have the rehearsal footage playing in the background, and they'll probably cut to that feed for the finale. But boy do I wish they were broadcasting that instead. That's real live theatre. Also, eerily reminiscent of the first performance of Rent, right? Looks like they are filming it, so I hope we'll get to see it someday. https://twitter.com/Foreverayoung
  18. Some thoughts -I hate the new format. I miss the biographies of the honorees, followed by a performance tribute. Now it's all jumbled, and I barely learned anything about these people and why they are being honored. -Why did Gloria Estefan change gowns 6 times??? Would there have been anything wrong with her wearing 1 for the whole evening? (also, why was she the host?) -I do not care how many Grammys anyone has -I think Phillip Glass' music (and minimalism in general) is just awful (I say this is a classical musician myself) -Kristen Chenoweth's performance was...odd -Cher yelling across the hall at Cindy Lauper that she was supposed to be in LA and Cindy winking back that she lied is the most adorable thing ever
  19. So I think 3 all-stars chose partners out of their "official" style-Cyrus, Gabby, and Jasmine, right? Cyrus and Jasmine danced their partners' styles last night, which makes sense because the first performance show is usually about introducing the contestants to us IN THEIR OWN STYLES. I thought it was extremely unfair to make Lex dance tap with Gabby. Obviously, he can do it very well and must have had tap training, but it is not HIS style and he deserves to dance his way. Yes, Gabby is a great tapper, but she is also great at other styles (which is why she won her season) and would probably fair better in contemporary than poor Cyrus did, but at least HE DID IT. I know Nigel loves tap, so maybe that was part of the decision, but it seemed really unfair of the show to do that. P.S. I hate the all-stars/team format
  20. There was a closing number. Spacey and Patti sang a Bobby Darrin song and invited all Tony winners on stage. It was odd, and not very good. You didn't miss anything if your CBS switched away.
  21. They did mention that Jude was off somewhere (I don't remember specifics), which was why they had a spare bed for AJ.
  22. Someone upthread says he's won a Globe before (but no Oscar). So that's not it, but even if it was, it's not like he's 70 and never won. Is there a sense that's he's the Susan Lucci or something?
  23. Maybe it's because I don't watch Empire, so the only thing I know Taraji from is this and the Emmys, but I really dislike her. Also, I totally agree with truthaboutluv's interpretation of the Gaga/Leo moment.
  24. I don't think it will be rebroadcast but you can stream the whole thing on CBS.com.
