  1. I realize arguing physics with a superhero show is a bit ridiculous but I have to point out that when crystal glasses with water in them make a beautiful sound, it's the crystal that's vibrating, NOT the water.
  2. Didn't catch the whole show this morning (that's what DVRs are for) but I wanted to comment on something I noticed. During the interview with Oscar Isaac, Nicole kept interrupting to say facts about him and his career. It was really weird, because it seemed like she was telling him things that he would have known (won an award for such-and-such, co-starred with so-and-so) but it didn't take the conversation in any direction. He just confirmed these things and then the conversation went on. It seemed really weird. She needs to take interview lessons from Rosie.
  3. Rosie P is only out for 1 month. They started back after New Year's on Jan 5 and she'll be back on Feb 3. It's not that long, and they couldn't have anticipated Whoopi being out at the same time.
  4. The black office chairs were definitely Whoopi-related. I think they said that they are better for ones back. Everyone was using them on Tuesday and then only Whoopi had it on Wednesday. She probably has to sit in a chair like that right now and they were doing it in solidarity on Tuesday.
  5. I don't think anyone other than Whoopi said 5 words the whole show, and what she said was incoherent and uncomfortable. Also, none of them seemed interested (or knowledgeable) about the football story, why even bring it up? They seem to often be filling that fourth seat with a relatively unknown female comedian. While it is admirable to try to promote these unknowns, this is not a great format for them. I've seen many of them (including today's Jen Kirkman) on @midnight and I know that they are very talented and funny. However, this is not the right setting for witty retorts and (since they're unknown) no one really cares what they have to say about anything.
  6. I, too, thought this lovely duet was the highlight of the show so far. But I just need to correct something - Alan Menken writes the music, Glenn Slater writes the lyrics.
  7. I felt that too, and then again when they re-played the second half of the stupid "6 essential nutrients/Centrum shill" bit which was was stupid the first time, and nonsensical the second.
  8. EDIT: Also, were all those people who joined the stage in the end part of the The Last Ship cast? Yes they were. I have a friend in the cast and she said they had a matinee and then rushed to a plane to get down there in time. Sting had no idea they were going to be there. The Kennedy Center Honors is really one of the best events on TV all year. My favorite parts: -POTUS being the first (and most enthusiastic) applause at Colbert's "most powerful person in America-Michelle Obama" joke -Meryl, Rita Wilson, Pres and FLOTUS, and Jessye Norman (opera singer) rocking out to Al Green tribute -Meryl's intro to Sting -beautiful ballet dancing (something we rarely get to see on network TV) -Tom's Yankee Doodle Dandy number may have been odd, but he clearly loved it and appreciated everyone in it
  9. Whoopi did something today that I found annoying and indicative of what makes her a horrible host for this show and I had to share it. Rosie O was talking about the problems with North Korea and started to say "Kim Jong-Un is..." but Rosie P thought it sounded like "Kim Jong-unis" or something and called it out as sounding silly or wrong (slightly annoying and derailing, but I know I do it when friends say something that sounds funny, so I'll let it go). Then Whoopi jumped in and said "Kim Jong-Univision" which maybe would have made sense if they were talking about the leader of a Spanish-speaking nation but was not funny, clever, appropriate, or necessary in this context so it only served to derail the conversation, bring the focus back to her, and make a "joke" because she's the professional comedian and God forbid anyone else gets a laugh. She tends to end a lot of her rants with an unfunny joke or voice which serves to make (at least some of) the audience laugh/clap so she can feel vindicated about whatever ridiculousness she just said. I was so frustrated by the race discussion today because they're all really on the same side (racism is bad, m'kay). They were all making true statements but never followed through to really make a point, or they'd make a point that had no connection to what they (or someone else) had just said. I found Whoopi's anger during the discussion completely out of place and counterproductive. Why is she so against Rosie O or Rosie P feeling something is racist when she doesn't agree. What harm could that possibly cause? A word that I think needs to be brought more into these conversations is "racial." Maybe it's not "racist" (full of hate and intolerance) to assume that the black man standing outside the restaurant is the valet or the black woman in Target works there but the same thought process that says "this black man must be the valet" is the same one that says "this black kid in a hoodie is in the wrong neighborhood, he must be up to no good" and that most certainly is "racial."
  10. Mia, Rosie's foster daughter, was Latina. I'm pretty sure that her godson Ellis is who she was talking about today.
  11. I believe Ellis is actually her Godson, and she referred to being with him when the Eric Garner decision was announced. I believe he has lived with her for part of his life.
