  1. Yeah it would be interesting to compare preference sheets in earlier seasons with those now. You might have had people saying barring specific ingredients like onions but otherwise give the chef the discretion to come up with something. Now are people saying I want x, y, z? But every potential disagreement or conflict is a story opportunity so they're probably accentuated and encouraged.
  2. Check out #TheChi. Similar criticisms as here. People not feeling it like the first two seasons.
  3. Wonder how they cast Kiko. He’s had experience on big yachts and he probably knows how to cook a lot of dishes. He’s got a chipper personality, fun to be round but not dramatic enough for this show, especially considering his predecessors. So why set him up to fail with small portions and then making him make dishes he’s not used to cooking? If Malia and her bf generate some drama, maybe that’s the real reason they get rid of Kiko. They capture a lot of instances of Hanna muttering about hating the job. Yet she’s a good sport about appearing on WWHL and doing other appearances to promote the show during the season. So this narrative that she was ready to quit, going through the motions, making Jess and Kiko look bad because of her indifference doesn’t seem to fit her actions right now.
  4. These character have no trouble finding hookups but maybe aren’t as good at understanding the character of the people they encounter. It’s easy for Arabella or Kwame to find willing sex partners as they’re attractive and have enough charisma to physically connect with people. But beyond the hookup, they’re not having really connecting or even being friends. Arabella has fond notions of her Italian trip and “friend” but she’s completely wrong about how he regards her. She only has their previous encounter to go by but no signals from him that he would want to see her again. Kwame is surprised by his date’s attitudes on race and gay men while hanging out together after they have sex. It seemed like he couldn’t climax until he remembered being assaulted on his Grindr hookup. He wanted to know if he would like being with a woman but his date has some despicable notions and then becomes hostile. So immediately after he leaves, he’s on his way to hook up with a guy again. O much for experimenting. Would it be fair to say Arabella and Kwame aren’t good judges of people, at least not yet? Or at least not of their random sex dates?
  5. Something to tide you over: This video could be in the best quotes thread.
  6. Drake's wife is the one who encouraged him not to make waves and risk losing his job. So you'd think she'd be against him taking risks when they're about to have their first child.
  7. Drake said that he was only expected to police people of color, that he couldn't arrest white suspects, that he was lower than white suspects. A few episodes ago, he said he could kill Mason because of the badge he had. Contradiction.
  8. They should have had Drake explaining to his wife why he would cooperate with the defense, tell the truth about what he found. Instead he shows up at Perry's house, says being bribed doesn't sit well with him. Then you see him sending his pregnant wife away because he thinks she may be targeted. Seems like he should have had the soul-searching discussion with the wife rather than someone he barely knows.
  9. Kind of zoned out when they talked about Michelle’s demise. Sad but main subject is the hunt. Of course she was dogged and obsessive in her pursuit but is her role overstated because of her collateral celebrity and Patton’s promotion of her role? Seems like the other true crime hunters were at least as instrumental and then this DNA expert is he one who found him. In fact this case was busted wide open because DNA identified the suspect. These crime buffs gorged on all the details like cultural anthropologists reconstructing a bygone era. But unless I missed it, they never came up with a list of plausible suspects nor did the police, whose files they and Michelle had. Without thinking about it I watched all of Mindhunter, how they analyzed the cases and the interviews, with the help of the clinical psychologist character. They identified traits ad tendencies of serial killers and while they were building up this profiling methodology, they could apply it to live cases to narrow the characteristics of likely suspects. IOW, they developed actual techniques based on reasoning, to capture serial murderers. These buffs like Michelle just obsessed over details but probably never would have identified the suspect without DNA techniques, which also helped convict the guy.
  10. So those ASPCA commercials with “I’ll Stand by You” (wonderful rendition by an obscure singer named Mina Tank) has Eric McCormack narrating. He looks much younger than he did in the reboot seasons so I figured the commercial was from a decade or more ago. But he’s making the pitch for 63 cents a day or $19 a month, which seems to be an amount that’s current. So maybe he did do those commercials recently? The hair length and style seems more like the ‘90s. Never seen most of the cast in anything but the show, which is kind of surprising.
  11. He would say or ask questions which he knew would be stricken. Then the blowups in the judges chambers. Seem to be like a veteran lawyer pushing the boundaries in a calculated way, not a new lawyer trying his first case. Judge gave him a long leash. Not sure what evidence of church corruption has to do with the case unless Perry is able to show ties between the church elder, Ennis and some of the kidnappers. Is that going to be it, because that would be a little too pat. Church has plenty of money, Ennis and the other detectives are on the take, so money as motive for kidnapping gone wrong seems weak. Rampant corruption in the LAPD, maybe he whole justice system, but that’s a lot to tackle in a first case. But that’s better than Emily believing the baby will be resurrected and that she will be freed.
  12. If the creep has an apt. above the room Keisha's locked up in, why did it take so long for him to show up after the blackout? Keisha is remembering Kevin's last birthday, just when they were talking about her leaving for college. Now it's Kevin's birthday again. So she's been captive for almost a year or at least a few months? Are they trying to be discrete, showing him only brushing her hair and smelling it? We're suppose to infer that he's doing other things to her? Ronnie had a hunch but despite hearing Keisha over the heating vents, he leaves and drops it -- couldn't have been much worse for him. At this point, six episodes into the season, they need to end this plot one way or another, either she escapes or gets rescued or it's a tragic end. From the scenes of her captivity, now showing the creep who abducted her, she's going to be freed. IF they're showing these scenes now as a prelude to a bad ending for her, it recasts the series in a very dark tone. It had been kind of a slice of life show about characters striving to better themselves and their lot in life, with lots of moments of joy. So it seems unlikely that they would have this plot end up in a grisly, tragic way. Especially since this abduction plot seemed to come out of nowhere, since the show had had a lot of moments of affirmation, despite the economic and racial hardships these characters go through. The headlines you hear about Chicago are often about the random violence, especially where bystanders, including children, are the victims. Show creator didn't want to depict her city as just the shootings. Sure there are criminal figures among the cast but it's about people who avoid and don't live in fear of the gang violence. This stalker/kidnapper character, who abducts Keisha because she looks like the girl who rejected him in high school, is wildly out of place for this show.
  13. Really enjoyed the series, left you wanting more. Would have been entertaining if they went back and interviewed Williams in prison as part of their project. I don't mind the private live plots at all, though they dropped Holden's life outside the office in favor of showing more of Tench and Wendy's lives. It's too bad it's on hiatus.
  14. Showrunner says he joined the show in 2008 when he was in Queenstown, New Zealand. I don't recall them being there. Even TAR hasn't been I don't think. Oh and that's the reality show that deserves the Emmy awards.
  15. That apt. looked to be in a nice location, was as nice as the other places they saw. If the roommate moved out, it would have been a good choice. So Felix figured he's lived there for a few years so they don't need a realtor to come up with living options. Maybe not having an agent on this episode was a reflection of the pandemic but I think it was shot in the fall.
  16. She must have had better living situation back home in Chicago, so maybe wanted something nicer. Certainly nicer than that small matters on the floor in that narrow room. How many more years could the guy have to get his degree? He tried to get her to retry that metts thing, some kind of raw pork snack and she wasn't having it.
  17. So apparently they were filming right before the pandemic and shooting was halted and they had to drop an episode from season 2, 7 episodes instead of the planned 8. https://deadline.com/2020/07/his-dark-materials-bad-wolf-cut-episode-season-2-comic-con-at-home-1202993036/
  18. Season 2 news: https://tvline.com/2020/07/23/his-dark-materials-terrence-stamp-season-2-cast/ Terrence Stamp joins cast. And they released a season 2 trailer, showing debut in the fall. They must have been able to shoot before the pandemic? Actress playing Lyra is noticeably older. So they're in post-production presumably, aiming for Fall premier. Pleasant surprise! Season 1 finished airing in the US in December? So the UK could get it late summer?
  19. Only thing I remembered from the backgrounds of these "personal bunkers" is that CT's microwave clock is flashing. He doesn't bother to set the time. You know like back in the day your parents had the VRC clock displays flashing because they weren't set?
  20. Wonder why the challengers agree to do these reunions. Do they sign contracts that require doing reunions as part of doing a Challenge season? Or they want to placate the producers so that they’re reinvited to future seasons? Most of them didn’t seem to want to be there. Normally they do it in NY so at least they get a trip out of it. Host was bad, even though I’m a 49ers fan. I guess the feuds weren’t as intense as in previous seasons so rehashing them didn’t help. A lot of the individual episodes or at least the challenges were good. But the Final was a letdown. And the whole thing with the bunker, Johnny made it sound like torture, like he was depressed. But why would they try to make it a thing, that they had to endure the mental stress of a dark dreary place? Maybe that’s why the Czech Republic tourism bureau didn’t want them to mention they were in the country. Or did they try to cut back on the usual amenities of the Challenge house because it’s MTV? They were eating chips a lot of the time for heavens sake!
  21. What I found interesting about the Brno, Czech Republic revisit is that there’s one scene of the family on an excursion in some outdoors area with a lake and they’re all wearing masks. So it was filmed after the start of the pandemic — unless masks were common in the CR for things like the flu. They either shot those segments before travel restrictions were imposed or maybe they had some people in the EU, though it was only in mid June and later that travel restrictions between European countries were lifted. So maybe they filmed in March before border closures? Doesn’t seem likely that anything filmed in the last month or two would already be on the air. More likely they contracted local filming crews and producers who’d usually travel to filming locations arranged the shooting and interviewing the house hunters and prodding them on things to discuss remotely. These HHI the Adventure Continues episodes don’t contain as much new content as a brand new HHI episode does so maybe they will keep dribbling out these revisits, if they can find enough former house hunters willing to do them, as well as getting the shooting logistics together. On the episode itself, it’s interesting that they are still in the same property that they purchased 4 years ago, though they’ve pretty much rebuilt the home. They’ve put so much time into it that they seem to be there permanently, despite growing up in the US. They have their son play baseball — futbol would be much more popular there — to keep some American ties. That may be the thing with these revisit episodes. A lot or most of the house hunters, especially on HHI, are not staying in their “homes” long term. Often it’s some stunt by travel bloggers to do HHI. So they have to find, willing people who’ve actually settled in their foreign homes at least a couple of years, as well as dealing with the logistics remotely.
  22. Could it be that Patton overlooked the things Michelle was into because he was still the moonstruck schlub still awestruck that the greatest girl in the world chose him? Did he try to confront her about the drug use? If she was using heavily, she might have been slipping in taking care of the child and other things when he was on the road.
  23. Now, now. There's what's legal and there's what's right.
  24. She looked good on WWHL, seemed relaxed, even though she's working on a yacht currently. She's competent and works hard but doesn't generate as much drama as the other chief stews. She's not thirsty for guests like Hanna and she's not an aging mean girl like Kate. If she were to start out as chief stew on a season, she'd have to be bullying the stews working under her. Probably also carry on with the bosun or the chef for good measure. Bravo won't have the interior running smoothly with little tension or friction among the stews. That would be the worst offense, in Bravo's eyes.
  25. I think Hanna's departure will be played up as a big deal, her farewell and start of a new stage in her life. So it wouldn't be surprising if they planned this out a bit and tried to come up with a story, about how she's not as into it. Bugsy probably speaks fast and into the walkie talkie which may not be easy to understand. But Jess getting upset, probably because she felt pressure. Rob talking about bad energy over and over again when they're trying to get out all the toys. This time they went around the island to the west coast, beautiful Soller. Kiko may not have experience planning big meals maybe? Guests either didn't eat the food or complained about not getting enough food. But maybe his departure was already also kind of planned, since they happened to have a replacement lined up, who's known to one of the crew. I don't think any of the BD shows ever had more than 2 departures or replacements during a season, right? If they're willing to put up replacement cast members in hotels nearby where they're filming, they could make cast being replaced an even bigger part of the season. Obviously they like having Sandy be the helicopter boss, since they feature her hovering just about every episode, several scenes. It's perfect too, because they can go into a commercial break with her dressing down the crew or asking guests and not getting positive feedback.
