I mentioned it as an unpopular opinion yesterday, but IMO the writers biggest problem with Castiel is their insistence on keeping him tied to the Angels storyline. The overall Angel storyline is tired and exhausted and when you compare the angels of recent seasons to the likes of Uriel, Zachariah, Anna etc they come up short. Castiel is an interesting and compelling character for many. However, he is being let down by the writers insistence on shoving him off to weak heaven based storyline with dull supporting characters. I think as @DittyDotDot touched on Castiel could have more entertaining storylines if he was allowed to move outside of the angels and given an opportunity to make human friends outside of the brothers. Maybe other hunters he could work general cases with, or actual interaction with existing recurring characters like Jodie etc.

If that's true, at this rate, if J2 use future contract negotiations to get any more time Sam and Dean only MOTWs will be a thing of the past. One of Cas, Crowley, Lucifer, Rowena and Mary will have to appear in every episode to ensure J2 appear in all eps and still meet their half the schedule plus time off quota.

Supernatural Bitterness & Unpopular Opinions: You All Suck
Wayward Son replied to mstaken's topic in Supernatural
UO: I wish they'd make Cas human and write all other angels out of the show. I adore Cas and want him to stay always, but beyond him I'm so over the angel storyline. I also think the character would be better served being allowed to form close human friendships outside of the brothers. Maybe other hunters or something because the writers seemed bored of the other angels too. The angel characters have all been father substandard since season 6 - season 7. -

It seems in in the minority who finds Meg 1.0 much better than 2.0 hehe -

Supernatural Relationships: Blood Is Thicker Than Water
Wayward Son replied to NoWillToResist's topic in Supernatural
Ew. I hated Dean and Jo (probably because I hated Jo). Plus the show clearly showed us Dean thinking of Jo as a little sister. Then in an attempt to up the stakes, and emotionally manipulate the audience, they tried to add a random romantic element to it right before she dies ugh. -
Well, um... I guess making him step daddy Cas would be one way to get the Destiel shippers to give up once and for all LMAO

I agree it wasn't really earnt! The only thing I've got (in addition to what you've said) is that perhaps the writers wanted us to believe they bonded during the six weeks the brothers were imprisoned and she accepted him as family then. The ironic (and sad for the brothers) thing is that Mary has actually shown more openness and empathy towards Cas than her own sons so far. Think of her opening up to him in the Foundry compared to her dismissal of Sam during this episode, or her attempts to comfort him while the boys were missing in First Born. I don't know what the writers are going for with this, maybe Mary finds it easier to open herself to a stranger than the sons she fears possess expectation she can't meet, but it's just something I've observed.

I think making one vote a down vote for the sake of helping to ensure the game does not drag on too much would be a good idea! I'm also going to add a section beneath called "Current Rankings" to keep track of what order episodes were eliminated :) Im happy to start voting now (hopefully I'll do this right). 15 - Pilot 15 - Wendigo 15 - Dead in the Water 15 - Phantom Traveler 15 - Bloody Mary 15 - Skin 15 - Hook Man 14 - Bugs ( - 1) 15 - Home 15 - Asylum 15 - Scarecrow 16 - Faith (+1) 15 - Route 666 15 - Nightmare 15 - The Benders 15 - Shadow 15 - Hell House 16 - Something Wicked (+1) 15 - Provenance 15 - Dead Man's Blood 15 - Salvation 15 - Devil's Trap Current Rankings

Yay people willing to play! And @DittyDotDot I was thinking Season by season? How does the game work on here? The + and - systems tend to confuse me because they can differ from board to board haha
-
So would anyone be interested in reviving this game? I ask because I was told my game suggestion was too much like this one.

Totally agree! The only thing that possibly matches them is the Gnarl demon used in Same Time Same Place. Joss Whedon has an amazing talent for creating strong concept episodes, such as Hush (silent), The Body (to highlight the rawness of grief by not using background music) and Once More With Feeling (Musical), that would flop under a lesser writer. I must confess I've often wished Joss Whedon had taken over Supernatural after Kripke left. I'd have loved to see what he would have done with the show.

I just find it rather boring overall. I do admit that's an enjoyable scene but it's not enough to make up for the fact I consider the rest of the episode a snooze fest. Although, my opinion could change with this rewatch. Since I dislike it I think it's one of the episodes I haven't seen in five or six years.

An unpopular opinion (but I don't think it's controversial enough to really need to be in there) of mine is that the whole "five year plan" was an exaggeration of Kripke's. Or if he did have a detailed five year plan only some basics made it on screen and it hardly mattered in the end, The reason for this point of view is the fact that according to interviews the course of the shows plot changed dramatically as a result of the writers strike. Originally angels were never going to be introduced and Dean was never going to go to hell. Instead Sam was going to embrace his demonic abilities and turn Dark Side to save his brother. Season 4 would have then focused on Dean trying to turn Sam back from the dark side. Actually that also supports @catrox14 idea that the current "the brothers must be together in every ep and co-dependent" may not have always been the case since they'd hAve been seperate for the seasonal demon influenced Sam arc. However, the writer strike meant they only had 5 episodes to wrap up the season instead of 11 so they were trapped into sending him to hell and decided they needed angels to bring him back. Considering the large role the angels play in the mythology of season 4 and 5 I don't feel they follow any initial 5 year plan Kripke may have had in mind. I could see some basic broad points remaining like - Apocalypse (although I reckon it would have been a zombie Croatan one) - Final Episode will contain the brothers saving the world as a result of their brother love. But I doubt Kripke had the specifics of the emotional development and mytharc in mind like many fans seem to think he had.

The behaviour of some people in the supernatural fandom really puts me off watching the show sometimes -sigh-

She left at the end of season 11 to work on Marvel's Jessica Jones. Torn and Frayed took place in the middle of season 8. It aired after Citizen Fang and featured the brothers awkward reunion after all the drama of CF.

Haha well that's why I included DVDs as an option since I know not everyone has a Blu Ray player :)
-
This is why I still like to buy DVDs/Blu Rays in spite of the fact all my friends tend to be like "dude you actually buy them? But they're on Netflix". I still like knowing I own my favourite shows and don't have to worry about them disappearing one day lol.

S01.E09: The Mistress of All Agonies
Wayward Son replied to The Crazed Spruce's topic in Iron Fist [V]
I enjoyed this episode and would consider it to be the best of the series so far. Highlights - Harold's return and the reveal that the hands method of resurrection strips away the persons humanity. Like another user mentioned above, I'm also curious to see the impact this has on Elektra - Madame Gao's Manipulation: What made it so interesting was the fact there were definite truths within the taunts she gave. - Joy knows the truth. Lowlights - I wasn't super keen on the sudden inclusion of healing powers although the effect reminded me of charmed, which had a nostalgic value. I'm not a comic reader but I assume he had healing abilities in the comics? Also in regard to the Netflix show ordering my order would be Jessica Jones (an amazing character piece with engaging studies of PTSD and mind control), DareDevil Season 1, DareDevil Season 2, Iron Fist (at least so far) and Luke Cage -
It's a boy. Dagon confirms she's carrying a son during Family Feud.
