Purpose-driven makeup? So I spend a ton of money on the stuff, slather it on my face, and then my boss suddenly gives me a huge raise? Gosh, how did I manage before this? Gag. I'm having a flashback Suzanne Somers hawking her multitude of miracle cures.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

Smuggar must be thrilled by the Supreme Court's "Hobby Lobby" decision exempting some private companies from covering birth control in their health insurance plans. More blessings for everyone--especially poor working women. -
Brother Vs. Brother - General Discussion
BradandJanet replied to Lisin's topic in Brother Vs. Brother
@auntjess and @DownTheShore, I don't buy the constant theme in these remodeling shows about suddenly discovering bad plumbing and knob and tube wiring. Sure, it can happen, but usually a tour of the basement, attic, utility room, or attached garage gives a pretty good idea of what's going on in a place. Leaks make spots on walls and ceilings too. I guess there's drama in watching the pro deliver bad news to the client: You can't have the spa tub because we have to rewire the basement. -
Very interesting. Thank you for posting this.

Tarek and Christina El Moussa. During the first season, it was hard to find the full name even on the Internet. However, they used their name on the Brother vs. Brother show and during the F & F episode that you mention. Apparently, they were in real estate and lost big during the 2008 bust. I suspect they're doing OK now. That's a nice BMW Tarek drives. They come across as a nice couple who manage to work together without clawing each other's eyes out. Despite the drama the show builds in, their flips seem intelligent. Sometimes they go with laminate instead of hardwood floors because they can.

This show has a couple dozen reruns every week. The network must be in full promotion. I rather like these women, but only one view per episode. -

Oh, that was Joe on the drums. This was certainly a collaborative, but only Terra looked remotely happy to be there. -

How a bunch of weepy, whiney women who are under the thumb of a beady-eyed guy with bad hair can market a line of jewelry with a "strong women" theme is the height of irony.- 199 replies

My Sister Wife's Closet and Other Brown Family Business Ventures

So true about the company's client list. Stanley Watkins was the head "venture capital" guy in the episode and is CFO/VP of the company. Was the man listening to their pathetic pitches in somebody's living room part of Ecasi too? That would make sense in this little piece of fiction. Ecasi is a one-year-old consulting business with a sales volume reported at $230,000, all of which they apparently handed over to the Browns. Ah, sure. That ring says "sisterwife"! Agh. Who would give that to a best friend unless you're sleeping with her husband? -

And miss the shocked reactions of the other diners as the conversation turned into shouting? Not a chance. -

Buying the stuff on that website is difficult enough. Can you imagine trying to return something? -

This is a link to Stan Watkin's company, Ecasi Consulting: http://www.ecasiconsulting.com/. What I gather from skimming the site is that Ecasi doesn't fund businesses but helps find lenders who will. It's possible that TLC was the "lender," I imagine. Ecasi consults start ups on managing and growing the business. The "Our Solutions" section on the home page, "nine easy steps to success," is priceless when applied to the Browns, who appear not to have applied a single one to MSWC. -
@Ripley68that video of Michelle and the bridal lady is awesome in the way they both totally ignore the random stuff going on behind them. Too funny.

A professional seamstress also would have made the hems even. It looks as if the white panels were last-minute additions. The shoes are just wrong. That said, I think Derrick looks like one of the Scott twins (Drew and Jonathan of Property Brothers), whom I find attractive. Jill looks beautiful and happy.
-
I think they should just stop pretending to work and get on a crowd funding site--one that doesn't require a serious illness or massive natural disaster to qualify. They could tell their sad stories of fleeing imminent persecution, needing a wet bar to display snacks, wanting to add another baby to the dozens, having to plan and staff a celestial planet, needing a private college education, or whatever entitlement they can think of. The fans would send money, and the website of ugly jewelry could die a natural death.

Alas, I checked into this episode only twice. David Tennant on Masterpiece was much more entertaining. However, I managed to see Kody furrow his brow to look concerned about what his wives were saying, and the wives talking about how wrong they were to doubt Kody's wisdom to move to Las Vegas in the middle of the night. Then they all had a party to celebrate the King's awesomeness. The show seems to be out of plot lines.
-
Remember, hearty target demographic, we have to help Kody "build his empire." That comment irked me as much as the everything turns to gold nonsense. The website seems to be quiet tonight. I guess the curiosity checking doesn't last long past the end of the episode. I put an ugly, overpriced watch into my shopping cart to see if the website checkout was secure. Nope. It just wanted me to enter my credit card information. Bye, bye.

The replacement surgery can make a huge difference. I think I read that Jen had had both hips done between 2001 and 2009. She has a slight limp or wobble when she walks. I notice it because the condition is on my radar now. However, she has also had spinal alignment issues. Thirty surgeries is simply amazing.
-
It will be telling to see which one wife gets blame for the jewelry fiasco. They all had a hand in this farce.
-
I just had a hip replacement. The operation itself wasn't too bad (thank you, modern medicine) but involved a long recovery with hours of physical therapy. However, the condition leading up to the surgery was months of pure agony. I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on anyone. I'm sure Bill and Jen know it well.
-
I stand corrected on the port. Jen calls it that in the show too. I also noticed the scar on the back of her neck. I believe both she and Bill have had hip surgery (replacements?) too. I admire them for embracing life so fully and cheerfully in the face of ongoing physical pain.

Little Women: LA - General Discussion

Briana may yet be my favorite. She is very pretty and looked awesome in that bikini. She also seems to be intelligent, mature and a caring mother. Her ex-husband managed to present himself as a real tool. The backward baseball cap sort of topped it off. -
Congratulations to Jill and Derrick. It looks like a happy time for them and I wish them well. I like the style of the dress and prefer it to the strapless every-dress trend. However, I don't think it fits well on the top. The shoulder straps look a bit long and the waist not cinched enough, but it's difficult to tell from one photo. The bottom of the dress and the length look perfect. I hope JimBob let his daughter have the dress of her choice. I also hope Derrick's mother can be a part of their lives. She seems nice and a good influence on the young, sheltered Jill. It would be wonderful if this couple can explore the possibilities in their lives and not just pump out a hoard of single-letter-named children to fulfill expectations.

Brother Vs. Brother - General Discussion

This show reminds me of Trading Spaces, albeit with slightly more adult supervision (looking at you, Hildi). At least Drew and Jonathan inspect the work. Still, there isn't enough time for nonprofessionals to do some of these projects properly. I guess the homeowners are desperate for free renovations and hope for the best.
