  1. Don’t people still say “née?” Or just, “his wife, Jinger Duggar Vuolo?” My grandmother insisted that Firstname Maidenname Lastname was always correct, for a married lady. Are these folks just looking for more ways to sound stupid? (It’s working.)
  2. If she’s been spending time with Derrick’s law school buddies, she might. I went to Yale, and I still sometimes felt a bit dumb when my husband had law school group study sessions going on at our place.
  3. I don’t know, I took it a little differently. Obviously she normally is included in whatever’s going on, and she’s not happy being pushed out of the way when there’s filming. She hasn’t done anything wrong, and neither have her kids. If JB &M get to be on all the time, why shouldn’t she? This is a pretty passive-aggressive approach to asking, but I’m not sure anything more direct would be possible for her. She’s deeply steeped in modesty and patriarchy. On the other hand, referring to them as “Josh’s family” is a bit odd. @Churchhoney seems to understand them on a pretty deep level, so she’s probably right.
  4. Both Judaism and Islam still follow this practice, in Hebrew and Arabic respectively.
  5. They might actually be hard of hearing, or have speech impairments. It’s not like Jill would ever notice. She only listens to herself, and possibly her misshapen headship. And she keeps them well away from any responsible adults who might pick up on something like that.
  6. My dad was Army, and that sounds plausible. And much better than what some guys end up getting called. But none of these people will ever serve. They might have to obey women officers.
  7. “Um, how do I move the sun?“ —Jill, probably.
  8. I believe Elizabeth is the one with the crooked teeth. I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be mean (mine are crooked too). I don’t know what else to say about either sister. They do have very striking blue eyes.
  9. To be fair, I think quarantine has left most of us both bigger and douchier. But we didn’t all start at such a high level. 🙂
  10. I suppose I started this topic by saying that Jill looks happier and more natural. I didn’t mean anything more than that. Not, Jill’s life is now perfect, and certainly not, Derrick is no longer an ass. It looks to me like Jill is happier and more relaxed in herself and in her marriage. Probably because of this, the kids and Derrick also seem happier. Derrick will always be an ass, and probably sometimes he’ll direct his assholery at his wife and children. Jill is still pig-ignorant, and probably sometimes that will irritate her husband and embarrass her children. But I think the children will receive good educations and be able to support themselves as adults. I think they will have happy memories of their childhood-maybe not all happy memories, but some. I think the family will be all right. I hope they have no more children. I have a feeling, just an intuition, that there won’t be any more because something went badly wrong at Samuel’s birth. If I’m wrong and they do start popping them out again, then my prediction becomes less rosy. Jill is likely to always be a bit fragile emotionally, and I don’t think a large chaotic family would be the best situation for her. But as things are now, they seem better than I’d expected.
  11. I tried to look at it the other way around—which is the least dull Duggar😂. I don’t think there is one. Josie, maybe, eventually.
  12. Kindergarten, I think, which is the beginning of public grade school. First grade is the second year, confusingly, but kindergarten is the first year. It’s usually in the same building as the elementary grades (mine was K through 5, but it varies) and it’s very much part of the school system. Although it may be a half-day program. Pre-school is typically age 3 or 4, and it’s usually a private, tuition-paying program. It’s not part of required education, so public schools don’t have to offer it (except in some cases of kids with special needs), so they don’t. TL;DR Israel is starting the first year of elementary school, which is called kindergarten. Usually the kids have to be at least 5 years old.
  13. Bingo! That is exactly the impression I have formed about Jeremy. The one time I tried to listen to a sermon of his, it was about the evils of Catholicism. I felt that he had only ever studied Catholicism from the POV of fundies. I doubt he has ever read any analysis Catholicism by a Catholic or even by a neutral scholar. And of course if you’ve only studied one side of something, you can’t claim to have studied it seriously. Or, I guess you can claim anything you want, but it won’t be true.
  14. The dresses really are awful, but the kids are nice looking, especially considering their dad.
  15. Well, now I think four years isn’t enough. You’d have to study very hard, every minute, to achieve everything they say they require, and even then I don’t know how many people could do it. I wonder if this is really the expectation, or if this is just what they publish to impress other people. BTW according to Mr. Genévrier, who had a bar mitzvah in the distant past, Hebrew doesn’t even have vowels. There are just these vowel markers that are basically training wheels for beginners. (I don’t claim to understand anything about Hebrew myself, I’m just reporting what he said.)
  16. Four years is a long time for a Masters Degree.
  17. Henry’s calves/ankles look equally thick, I think it’s just worse luck for the girl.
  18. Jill’s smile and laugh are so relaxed and genuine. The video is way too long and tedious, but it’s nice to see Jill looking happy. She’s more natural than I’d ever seen on the show.
  19. For the thread title “Joe and Kendra: Counting On. And On. And On...”
