Spring Baking Championship - General Discussion

But I think he was using amaretto, and she told him she didn't like the after taste, and he suggested extract and she agreed. I agree with you that extract has a very overpowering taste. -
"shipping" in reality tv language, means when viewers are encouraged to want to see a working-together couple become a romantic couple. At least I think I got that right.

Also, perhaps I'm out of touch, but as romantic as red roses are, I don't think they are particularly common as wedding flowers. -
Will one team insist on three options for one or more courses, and fall down because of it?

Yes Yes Yes! I only realized it when you said so! -
Personally I'm not a fan of bubbly personalities. Amanda's a good cook; but I disagree that she's particularly stood out so far, compared to a lot of the competition https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Chef:_Wisconsin

What a surprise that Steven won! (not) I mentally docked lots of points off Nikki and Robert for not actually doing stained glass. You need to paint between the lines like Steven did! Nikki's dragonflies were absolutely pathetic. I imagine that Nikki does fancy plated desserts rather than cake. But yes, this is primarily a cake competition. She even knew that.- 3.1k replies

yeah, I'm not fond of Amanda. She seems kind of sour. I like Michelle, and I agree that Savannah is a dark horse.

I recently discovered this and am only up to season 14. Lately they seem to be adding exotic locals (did the actors put some required boondoggles into their contracts?) South Africa, Hungary. I'm still enjoying it. But there's a long way to go!

I agree. Seems like trying to get her 15 minutes of fame.

That's not what @AriAu meant; he/she meant that anyone on the winning team was safe, even if they lost their round.

really. It was barely more than open a package of smoked salmon and put it on a plate. Even people who can't boil water can do that.

I went down a rabbit hole to find out the difference between frozen custard and ice cream. First I learned that frozen custard has egg yolks in it while ice cream doesn't (but some ice cream has eggs). I thought "but every time I've watched a cooking competition and they have to make ice cream they say it's just frozen creme anglaise." So I guess when cheffy people make ice cream they are actually making frozen custard.

Based on the truncated quote above your comment, I thought "Betty was strangled???? WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN? Ha Ha. I think you might be right about that for Angie.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

I think it happens in other cities as well. Why does Chicago get so much hate? (I don't live there but its crime rate per capita is not particularly high) -

In the QF the link from the Finish DW product to flambé" was absolutely tortured. What does flambé" have to with doing dishes. Nothing.... I guess we are officially done with being afraid of covid. Savanah/Laura (I can't tell them apart) testing one of the booze bottles by mouth, and Kevin double dipping in the blender.... So I could see the sense of all the sausage runners outfits... except the Polish one. I guess there is no stereotypical polish costume. I'm glad that Kevin and not Dan left. That foam looked disgusting (as it ALWAYS does). So next week is restaurant week with 9 chefs??? How's that gonna work?

Say What?: Commercials That Made Us Scratch Our Heads
dleighg replied to Lola16's topic in Commercials
I keep seeing different versions of an ad for realtor.com. It says something like "our app tells you if there is nuclear waste under the house" (exaggeration) Another voice says "don't all apps do that" The first voice says "Not really." The "Not really" sets off my BS meter. Sounds like something the lawyers made them put in since clearly some app somewhere might do the same thing. -
I can't help but think of the infamous challenge at some ballpark where Jamie managed to avoid serving her disaster of a dish and lived to see another day.

I get why they have to do it, but it is so damn fake.

I imagine so. I developed an interest in sourdough bread and googled some stuff. Now FB feeds me not only sourdough stuff but everything "prepper" in nature (canning, living off grid, etc etc), none of which I have any interest in. It's kind of fascinating culturally though, so my clicking on stuff just makes it worse. Sigh. -
I could have sworn I saw he had a restaurant in Chicago. My bad.
