  1. I have used European dryers. They don't f*cking work! ;-) that is, after a couple hours the clothes were only marginally dry. We always ended up hanging them over things overnight.
  2. Well, Imogene is working for Midge in the '80s, so that's ONE relationship she's been able to keep. Joel in his late 50s/early 60s resembles Moishe in his mannerisms and speech. And hey, he's a grandpa to a little Israeli. Gordon Ford is the perfect blend of the good-looking, white bread late night host of the era. He'd never get arrested for using a bad word onstage. He's safe. And the guys at work seem to be getting used to Midge, bringing in school projects for Ethan and tipping her off that another comic stole a joke of hers. Love how Susie Marshals her troops (and Alfie's llama). Joel is absolutely right about the mob guys, and I bet it turns out he took a fall for Midge related to her income (or for it's need to be laundered).
  3. Well, he found the prototype for Raj (astrophysicist), and it's a distant precursor to the future, when Sheldon (on a forced vacation) actually discovers an object in space when he's watching Raj. Also, I don't know why Billy is still the social outcast unless his mother doesn't let him play football. He's HUGE, and at that age in Texas, he'd probably be starting on his middle school team, and George certainly has his eye on Billy for the high school team. Football is EVERYTHING iN TX (Futbol is Life!). Georgie has the best intentions, but he's still a kid. And in thinking about who is paying the bills for Mandy/CeeCee, remember MeeMaw has a business that does a high volume of cash that she has to launder!
  4. I realize part of the problem of Keeley and Jack is that Jack is not a real person. That is, we know very little of her character. She might be a Rupert-style baddie, but we saw plenty of evidence of Rupert's assholery. We've only seen Jack fly in and out and sweep Keeley off her feet. Other than their drunken first kiss, we haven't really seen what makes them a specific couple. Jack could be a man, and it wouldn't matter. Right now, she's just a cardboard cutout.
  5. I thought it was a riff on "I'll Never Fall in Love Again," which was in "Promises, Promises." (Though most everyone knows the DIonne Warwick version). And YES to Cecily in a Broadway musical. Either one written for her or one where she absolutely fits the role. (Y'all can supply the titles...) With "I'll drink to that," I wonder if it's a tweak at Patti Lupone (from "The Ladies Who Lunch"?) Everybody rise?
  6. Nate is a hot mess who did some terrible things. Nick Mohammed is such a good actor that Nate's behavior in this episode makes you melt a little. He, too, is like his father: critical and demanding, quick to say terrible things. But he's also got some of his mother in him, and the look of joy on his face as he approaches Jade with his pop-up invite is sweet. I realize I particularly enjoyed the quiet subplot of the fans getting Total Footballed. And how throughout the week, more and more fans came to watch practice. "It's their team, we're just borrowing it for awhile," is one of the most important things Ted has said. It shows a Zen-like awareness of both the individual and the whole. And I think that's something he's learned at Richmond. When it's time for him to go, he'll go with grace, and without regret Also: Trent Crimm's book will probably be called "The Lasso Way: Total Football."
  7. I think this is a case of Bad Writing, a disease that sometimes leaves viewers disappointed.
  8. I've been wondering about that as well; maybe she's not available as she was in the 1st 2 seasons and they are writing around her. (Or, she's hard to work with and she's being given non-contiguous plotlines). Maybe the same with Phoebe, who was a pretty good kid actor. Maybe she's shooting something else. Also: one of the reasons that Trent was so happy about the change to Total Football is: HE'S GOT HIS BOOK. He's spent the season wondering what the spine of it is going to be, what the throughline/themes are, and he finally figured it out. Writing a game story is much easier: who won, who lost, some analysis. But a full-length book about a team, that requires a lot more craft, and Trent just got his big idea. And it was BRILLIANT when Jamie said he didn't want to talk because he'd sound like a prick, and everyone one the team gave him the "prick" sign. (Also delightful when he was towing Roy on the bike and Roy was saying "mush!") And this show regularly does beautifully with music, but I think this episode especially stands out.
  9. ...except that is a great old-school New York name! I sure hope this show comes back, so we're not stuck with a show-ending cliffhanger. I'm wondering if they are setting Killian up to be killed (because he's such a dirtbag who takes shortcuts).
  10. I think it was touching at the end that Chim was looking for the "right" engagement ring...Maddie should just woman up and say "yes." The two of them have been through EVERYTHING together, and they still love each other and successfully co-parent their daughter. Also: if you've got any kind of weird income, definitely go to an accountant! (Even if you didn't save his office from being burned down.)
  11. I handwaved it that they already had the license. (During the pandemic, you could get a license remotely. And if you know/knew someone, you could get it right away.) Yeah, Killian is definitely getting involved with a Big Bad. He's just such an idiot. And when time comes to pay, he's going to find out that being a member of NYPD isn't going to help. I wonder if the Deputy Mayor is going to apologize to Regina now that the 74 solved the case. (Nah.) And kudos to Brandy for finding the listening device. She's going to make detective someday. (And that seemed to be a foreshadowing chat about detective vs. street post.)
  12. Because some people can't afford real meat. And some cultures include it in their cooking as a main ingredient. Also, psoriasis is still an issue for a lot of people. There are now a lot of biologics to treat it, but so many people either don't have good insurance, or their insurance won't pay for it here in the US. (As a dedicated watcher of Dr. Pimple Popper, she sees a lot of people who can't afford treatment for their issues, or their doctor doesn't know what to do). But yeah, the mom up and left the kids...never checked up on them? That's cold. Does that mean she'll leave her dying kid when the going gets rough? I also don't see the teen mom returning home with her parents to be a tenable situation. The mother will get mad and start emotionally abusing her again. And the kid is 15! Both major plotlines were downers.
  13. Midge runs true to form...she always acts out when she doesn't get what she wants. And that come-to-Jesus speech about what Susie owes the mob has been building up for awhile. I mean, they have done a lot for her...from not killing her to getting her a Broadway house...Sophie Lennon is lucky Susie dropped her, otherwise they'd be wanting a taste of a network show. Alex Borstein is just one of the best actors out there.
  14. FYI: from my experience with European dryers, yes they are that slow.
  15. As a side note, some people may remember the Staten Island congressman, who was a former FBI agent, who ended up doing time for tax fraud.
  16. Roy and Jamie are Butch and Sundance, complete with "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" I don't think Rebecca and Hot Dutch Houseboat Guy had sex...but they shared a real intimacy. Wasn't the getting wet/going upside down another part of the psychic's prediction? I'd like to see McAdoo do Shakespeare. Don't worry...bout a thing...coz every little thing ..gonna be all right...
  17. I think there was a time when Jenny Agutter was transitioning from child actor (she worked A LOT) to leading lady, and she went to Hollywood to see if she could get some big screen roles (according to Wikipedia, she moved there in '74). She did have some big roles in American and British films. She moved back to England in the '90s, and did more TV work, with some film roles. I'm glad she didn't stick around LA and get a ton of plastic surgery. Oh, and here's a link to "The Railway Children," the 1970 film that put Dame Jenny on the map as a child star! (Free, with ads).
  18. I've realized that I'd be happy if TPTB decided we were in a multiverse where George doesn't screw around, even if he has to die.
  19. I'm glad to see so many people have picked up on Eddie being pushed to date as though he HAS to. He's also been through a shit ton of things, and as far as we know, is still working on himself. He's allowed to take his time until he & Buck realize they are right for each other. ;-)
  20. I LOVE that movie ("Logan's Run"), which also featured Farrah Fawcett!
  21. While he's been rehabilitated as a character, Fred's always saying things out of turn, doing slightly dodgy stuff, and getting in trouble because he doesn't shut up. I think this was another strong episode, though both the wife and I said: "he's going to die now," when Pops went upstairs. The Council bathing scheme was illuminating. As late as 1968 (thanks, Dr. Exposition!) there were still people living in tenements that didn't have indoor bathrooms. The elderly folks who needed bathing (I remembered the scene where Sr. Evangelina bathed the workhouse survivor) did need that kind of care. And Matthew's reaction is why he's such a strong character. He's a rich toff who could be all "let me take you away from all this" to Trixie (who wouldn't go), but rather, he's immersed himself in Poplar life and is questioning his own role as someone who's profited from the poverty, and what his obligation is as someone who has a lot.
  22. I thought this was a really strong episode that mixed and supported its themes well. It was about leadership, taking responsibility for doing things the right way, helping other people, and had a good ol' family sing-along. (The child actor playing Maddie & Chimney's kid is very sweet and natural on screen.) "Buck! You died!" is going to be a catch phrase for awhile, I think. I really don't know that the character of Buck is capable of any real growth, but everyone puts up with him. I want to know why Hen hasn't looked into Denny's father's background. Does he have a record? How did he get involved with Hen's scummy ex? And of course, he did relinquish his parental rights, so he can't really petition for custody. And insult to injury: Hen is behind in her continuing ed credits BECAUSE SHE WAS IN MED SCHOOL. On the other hand, she'll probably ace the courses. ...and that's why you need safety cages over giant mixing machines...
  23. Makes you wonder what kind of mom Midge would have been had Joel NOT cheated on her. (I doubt she would have found her way into a career of any kind otherwise). She was determined to be the very BEST housewife on the UWS, and might have turned into some kind of crazed uber-mom for lack of anything better to do.
