  1. I recently binged the two seasons of this show on Netflix. I was an obsessive fan of the OG Roswell, until Tess came into the picture and the show got ruined. This reboot, or whatever you call it, was never able the capture the magic of the OG show. The quality of the actors in the main roles was just not there. You could see the difference in Jason Behr's appearances in this new version. He brought it. Janine is decent, but did not have enough nuance for the lead. Nathan was only tolerable after the amnesia. I think a lot of his problem was due to the writing of his character. They made him a pathetic weenie so as to show Liz being a strong, independent woman. The problem is, why is she even attracted to him, then? They should have written their story differently to make a mutual attraction make sense more. None of this really made much sense, and it made this, supposedly central coupling fall completely flat. The writing in this version was pretty terrible. The political statements were too blunt and over the top. Perhaps it could have been done better had it stuck to the source material more, and modern politics injected more subtly. (That's just a guess--I've never read the books myself, but they've got to be better than this!) A lot of people here have focused on the race-optics, but I find quotas for their own sake tiresome. The story suffered for the lack of Maria, not because she was black, but because she was needed more to round out the story. They did bring in too many characters/story-lines (like others have said), and the story-telling suffered all the way around because of it. The producer tried to be everything for everyone, and accomplished too little for all the main characters, which is not satisfying in any way. I think I may look for where I can stream the OG Roswell, since I haven't watched it in a couple decades. Maybe I'll even look to read the books. I'll probably watch season 3 once it's on Netflix, if I remember. I do like the basic premise, even if I don't care for this particular interpretation so much.
  2. Currently on a catch-up binge, but would like to follow up on the questioning why Chloe didn't talk to Amenadiel about Lucifer after the big reveal. Hello! He went to heaven with Charlotte. He wasn't around to ask, even if she wanted to. Now, my take on this season so far. It got back a lot of it's fun, but it might be getting a bit too much. I feel hit over the head with some things, here. Sort of like movie trailers like to do, if you KWIM. Something like, you must watch this because: bam, bam, bam--here's all the cool-looking scenes in 5.9 seconds.
  3. I've never liked the song that Lucifer played in the beginning--until now. That was gorgeously sung, and haunting with the audience and suit changes, set against that lighting making it look slightly disturbing. Then, in true Lucifer fashion, it ends in his making a joke. Loved it!
  4. I know I'm late to the party but I'm currently binging this show on Netflix. Too bad I couldn't point this out to others earlier, but it was clear to me that the reason Lucifer didn't want to be touched by Chloe when she was going towards his scars from where his wings were cut off, is that is a huge source of emotional pain for him.
  5. You know what, though? In retrospect, the horrible misleading advice coupled with freeing Jaime looks really bad for him. We kind of know he was trying to do good, but I kind of wonder myself after the Jaime incident.
  6. All the actors have to work with is what the directors are willing to put on the screen.
  7. I was thinking that after Drogon flies off with Dany's body, he takes her up north where he hatches her up as the new Night Queen. Jon's headed up there for retirement, but also happens to be there to confront her again.
  8. You know, thinking about a re-do, I think perhaps a few re-edits might improve things for me. There were a number of weird things that bothered me in recent episodes. Jon yelling at the ice dragon was stupid and out of place. Perhaps some quick edits between his scene and danger closing in on Bran would help Maybe they did this somewhat, but they needed more in order to make the audience feel the frustration along with Jon, so that we were yelling at that dragon together. There was also nothing that showed why Dany snapped at that particular moment (or if it happened earlier, it should have been more clear in retrospect). I don't know if they had anything more to show this that ended up on the cutting room floor, but if they did, they should try to add it. There wasn't much that explained why Tyrion made the choices he did, either. Why was he so invested in Cercei and her baby? Maybe showing him remember some old scenes here would help sell that. Just a few more scenes could have sold the ending (so far) better, but Bran really needed to play more of a part in things, if he really ends up the ultimate ruler. It was weird how he was supposed to be important, but barely did/said anything at all. Even just having characters ask him questions, and despite his refusing to answer, getting a glimpse into some of his visions (nonsensical as they may be) would help the audience accept his importance).
  9. Dany was never my favorite character, and I didn't miss anything. At first I hated this show because it was so incredibly violent all the way around. (I got more into it after my husband kept watching anyway.) That violence didn't start with Dany. Some of the favorites--Jaime, Theon, Arya, and even Sansa a bit, did incredibly violent things. Oh, Robert, too. Catelyn. The Hound. Lots, and lots of violence to go around. Some were justified, some sort of redeemed themselves, some regretted it, others didn't. One thing for sure is, Dany wasn't the only one, so nothing was clear-cut for her decent into crossing the line. ETA: I should add here that it wasn't out of the question for me that Dany would ultimately burn KL to the ground, but that something more than a moment sitting on a dragon would change her mind about crossing the line that she seemed to have about killing children, at the very least.
  10. You know, everyone keeps mentioning the Iron Bank, but I thought when Cercie (sp?) took over Highgarden, she was able to pay them back with riches from Highgarden's ample supply of gold, (or gold mines, or something). Am I missing something?
  11. The job of the Hand is much different than the job of the king.
  12. As far as my feelings toward this season are concerned, I think it's my favorite so far, But season 1 comes in at a close second. The story this season was pretty tight, though the conclusion was a big let down. I found both Fisk and Karen incredibly annoying season 1. Fisk was much less annoying this season, and Karen grew on me tremendously. The actress that played her did a great job this season. If there was one thing I didn't like this season, it was that Matt wasn't allowed to win fights. He was supposedly better able to take on a dozen FBI agents with guns, that one person in hand-to-hand combat. It just gets too ridiculous after a while. I actually really liked Elektra in season 2. She had great sexual chemistry with Matt, which was sorely lacking between Karen and Matt except maybe in the crypt. I used to like Foggy more, but he was incredibly annoying this season. It also annoys me whenever shows put pudgy doughboys together with super hot women. I mean, it could be believable if there were a money/power imbalance between them, but his girlfriend has just as much money if not more. As far as sister Maggie is concerned, I appreciate the realness the actress went for, but someone who devotes their life to a religious order is not going to have such a potty mouth. They just aren't. I think there's some laziness there in the script writing.
  13. Why would Matt care about Dex's mental health? Dex had just hurt and killed numerous completely innocent people, including Matt's priest and surrogate father, and he's supposed to pause because this monster somehow managed not to be too homicidal so as to get caught, and Matt is supposed to magically know that he's working hard to to keep it together--maybe? I seriously don't understand why everyone wants to demand absolute perfection from everything Matt does, while giving passes to the most selfish and heartless monsters. This happens even within the series, calling Matt an asshole because he doesn't acquiesce to every demand of his friends, even though he's just trying to keep them out of danger. Even to the point of preventing him from killing a monster who kills anyone nearby that has the unlucky job of giving him bad news, a monster who has some seemingly omnipotent ability to know and control everyone around him to the point of escaping any imprisonment he might be temporarily subjected to. The dude should have died to make the entire world safer, if not by Matt's hand then by Dex's.
  14. Still annoyed by Maggie. I was happy she was gone for the first half of the season, at least. Engineer Jen looked so familiar, but couldn't place he until my husband found out that she was on Psych. Really liked Bo's more reasonable, milder personality that has developed over time. He was a bit much at first. Glad the baby thing didn't happen. It would've taken over the whole storyline. The end with the pipeline and ranch purchase was very predictable (except for the heart issues), but I didn't mind too much. This show touches on so many hot button issues (abortion, guns, environmental protection) for conservatives without really getting things too riled up, that I'm quite impressed. One thing, though. I do tend to side with environmentalists, but protesting a natural gas pipeline just because it might leak like oil pipelines do seemed a little crazy. Maybe I just don't know enough about natural gas pipelines. Is it liquified in some way or something? I know the gas is flammable, but it would go up in the atmosphere, not pollute the ground, right? I suppose I could look that up, but I don't think shows like this one should make that necessary.
  15. Anyone else notice this: Roman is supposedly making them all suffer by trying to tear them apart....after first getting them all back together??
  16. I'm surprised so many people here talk about Knots Landing. I didn't know anyone who watched that. The #1 show seemed to be Dallas, which my circle didn't watch, either, #2 seemed to be Dynasty, and subsequently the Colby's, which my circle did watch.
  17. Just got done with part 3, and pleased to see part 4 is right around the corner. The cliffhanger last year was really depressing, and that's probably why I didn't rush back to watch this show as soon as new episodes were released Colt is really stepping up, so much so that I'm finding myself annoyed by the characters' constant put-downs of him. Not sure why he isn't offered the bar. Maggie's angst is just annoying. You were invited to drink at a bar a town over, and had the time of your life? BFD. Seriously, she could have done that weekly for the previous 40 years without an invitation. Not to mention sleeping with a guy who just robbed you a few days prior. Maybe that's life in a very small town--take what you can get? I can't even imagine. The rhythm of this show has always been slow. Started out sort of stilted, but I think they're finally getting in their groove.
  18. Again, not saying they didn't exist. They just weren't widely known as "cul de sacs". They were called dead ends back then, at least here in the midwest. They no longer use "dead end" on signs here, but they say "no outlet" instead. It wasn't until I was an adult that I ever saw a sign that read "cul de sac", and at the time never even heard of the term before.
  19. With all due respect, first graders hairstyles are often very different than 8th graders. I have a second grader. We go for easy to take care of instead of fashion-sense.
  20. Anyone else find Millie a little annoying in this? (I loved her in the actual show.)
  21. I'm on the west side. Haven't heard anyone call Knights of Columbus KofC before, either. That's pretty funny.
  22. True, but I think the mullet was a little tighter on top. I looked back on my 84-85 yearbook. The girls almost all had the feathered sides and curled hair, but it was wider on the sides. A few started getting more mullet-like that year, though. The boys hadn't gotten there yet, (for whoever mentioned it previously that it was a few years later). The boys almost all had their hair parted in the middle, and feathered on the sides, but straight instead of curly like the girls. Dustin's hair for most of the episode would have made him a laughing-stock. He more likely would have had the hairstyle that he sported in the Beyond Stranger Things follow-up. At the dance, though, it is more like Prince, so it would've been seen as cool, once the kids got used to it.
  23. I didn't know what they were called until much later, either. I remember a show once called it, "business in the front, party in the back". I think that's a good way to describe it. I may be off by one year with the mullet. (If that's the case, then feathered hair would still be in then, but not such big hair as Steve's on guys.) I specifically remember my 8th grade school picture, and having the mullet then. I'll have to find my old Jr. High yearbooks.
  24. Some of those sweaters Nancy wears--I had very similar looking ones I wore in the 80's. I was at my mom's over the weekend. She still has my late father's Members Only jacket hanging in a closet. I remember those were all over the place. Some of the hair, though, doesn't seem right. Steve's is way too big this season. I think boys were still going for the feathered look. Then the mullet was feathered on the sides, short on top, and long-ish and curly in the back, frequently with a perm. I briefly had a girl mullet (when I was about the age of the younger kids in the same year), which is embarrassing to admit, but everyone had one.
  25. I'd like all the characters to return. Steve being a coach or cop or something where he can still be involved in the kids lives and date 008. Maybe a male 007 named James arrives in town as well? ;-) Please, no more of 008's stupid crew, though. With Joyce and Hopper together, Jonathan feels like he no longer is needed as the man of the house. Maybe he joins the army for the GI bill, and to learn how to shoot a gun and be a general badass like Vietnam vet Hopper. That would be a good reason to get buff and lose the greasy-looking Kurt Cobain hair. (Didn't grunge start later on?) Or, he was kind of frozen like Will was when being taken over by the shadow monster. Maybe he can be the next victim, giving Will a break for a season. I'd like to see Billy have a purpose and some growth, his dad being the true human antagonist.
