  1. When they climbed over the brick wall while cutting through yards. There were old windows or window panes leaning against the wall. Martha put her foot through one while getting footing to climb. Pretty bummed about Esme. Wonder if her father is a part of The Ravens? He may be pissed.
  2. I graduated from high school in 1985 and worked retail clothing in a mall just outside Detroit (Fairlane Town Center), and the producers, wardrobers, designers were really close in look/feel. Just finished a re-watch of season 3, and a few things I noticed that were on the mark which I didn't catch before: Lucas's Asian-inspired shirt in episode 7. Chinese/Japanese characters were, maybe not big, but prevalent in the 1980's version of Hot Topics stores. Pointer Sisters "Neutron Dance" playing when Alexi was going to leave in the Cadillac (ep.7, too). "Neutron Dance" was featured in the opening action sequence of Beverly Hills Cop and was all over the radio at the time. Max wearing a Swatch that had a pretty popular band+watch face color for 1985. Am glad they used Yello's "Goldrush" in episode 8 and not the more popular "Oh Yeah" (used in Ferris Bueller's Day Off) - though "Goldrush" didn't come out until 1986. Had a mild out-of-body experience with "The Never-ending Story". One afternoon when I was working alone in the store in 1985, Limhal and his manager came in to look for clothes. He is like 5' 2". Didn't buy anything.
  3. Season 4 is December 13. Season 5 has been announced.
  4. A commenter at the A.V. club mentioned that she was a perfect 50/50 of each parent. There is an angle where I can see Uma and another where Ethan seems prominent. Then another where l need to unfocus to see both parents. Unfair to the actress, but it really is incredible. And she is lovely. This show has been really good with casting.
  5. God (oops) do I love Lazlo: ”Look at the pictures on the glass! It’s the Jeebus man!” ”You’re my sweet baby, and I need to stop that kind of jive.” I could fill a page with his quotes.
  6. That's my take, too. I am unfamiliar with Pratchett's work, and I've read only Sandman (years ago) and American Gods by Gaiman. I was utterly charmed by this from beginning to end. I loved the Gorey-esque opening credits, and, as a raised American Midwesterner, I loved the Englishness of it (even with McDormand narrating). Perhaps since Game of Thrones ended, and I've been watching Chernobyl, having a short run, somewhat silly but thoughtful series is just what I needed. Plus, it had a happy ending. This is a show I'll just have on in the background while doing chores. I really liked it.
  7. Which was so comical that it took me out of whatever pathos filming that scene intended. They used that because Nutter made an offhand remark that he wanted to be the next Barry Manilow? On the flip side, the acoustic version of Sisters of Mercy’s “This Corrosion” was so sneakily inserted that I didn’t recognize it until it was almost over. Well done. I liked over the closing credits it showed the devoted Stark extra was a bus tour guide for filming locations. ETA: that version of “This Corrosion” is by Lambchop.
  8. Renewed! I have nothing to say since I am not a vampire.
  9. IIRC, another spoilerist in the past year said that Beric reanimates Bran. I didn’t understand it either until this past episode when Bran contains the memories of mankind. I can see Beric wanting to save that. Beric already feels his purpose is to kill the NK, so he either is with Theon already or rushes there when the NK arrives. He misses his chance but is there when Bran is killed. His purpose is to fight death by giving his life. Perhaps Bran will lose his Mark of the Night King when he awakes. Or it’s bull.
  10. When Sansa, teary and emotional, rushed to hug Theon, the look on Dany’s face screamed, “Sansa! Sansa! Sansa! Why does everyone love Sansa?!?!” #janofhousebrady
  11. I’m wondering if it’s a tweak on this being episode four. The episode fours in the first two seasons had pitched gun fights.
  12. Isn’t he dead — shot by Jack in the Metro station? All of his henchmen are dead, too. I think his storyline is done.
  13. Three reasons: your two and the Turandot scene at the Vienna Opera House.
  14. So, I’ve been pretty much watching these two episodes continuously since broadcast, and one of my favorite parts is when the standoff between the Marines and Alex and Amos ends and Bobbie is limping down the corridor, looking back slightly, and wistfully says, “Fuck.” Frankie’s tone and delivery are perfect.
  15. Maybe a backslash "\". They were great together in the last two episodes. I like them together because they both know who they are and are confidant in that. Because of that Anna and Amos respect each other, even if they disagree in methods. Neither Anna nor Amos take any grief from anyone -- and especially each other. Different topic: The character Drummer is one of the great supporting characters as portrayed by an actor in any TV show -- up there with Tyrion and Niles Crane to me.
  16. More casting... ‘Lovecraft Country’: Courtney B. Vance, Aunjanue Ellis & Elizabeth Debicki Join HBO Drama Series Seems that the character of Caleb Braithwhite is being gender swapped to Debicki's character. Great choices all around.
  17. Both Martian and UNN ships (along with the Rocinante) tried to shoot them down or obliterate them, but a percentage made it through. Fred Johnson, upon Naomi's suggestion, launched his confiscated nukes to protect Mars and took care the rest of them.
  18. You probably mistyped, but Nguyen shot the hybrids at Mars. Yes, the Hammurabi is fine. It hailed the slingshot pilot as he approached the Ring before he salsa-fied himself.
  19. I believe that a physical entity needed make the complete the circuit. Proto-Miller couldn't do it on his own. Holden is P-Miller's tool for investigating.
  20. For those who watch Game of Thrones, Naomi's departing The Behemoth felt like Sam's leaving Jon at the Wall at end of season 5. Drummer has few friends and a possible threat from her subordinates. Both she and Jon just looked so alone.
  21. I'm still on board, but season two of Westworld is becoming like season two of True Detective: I am struggling to like it but know that I will never go back to re-watch another episode (which I do with both series' season ones). Conversely, every episode of The Expanse this season pops and progresses.
  22. Watched this on the commute in. Am still cogitating, bit this ep is on par with BSG's "33" or ST:TNG's "Best of Both Worlds" - off the top of my head. Just fantastic, fantastic stuff.
  23. Two more: Daisy Ridley I will say I liked Alden in the role as much I liked Chris Pine as Kirk. Alden catches pretty well the, for lack of a better term, je ne sais quoi of a young Solo. Not to be cute, but I know Solo when I see him. By the middle of he film, I stopped mentally comparing him to Harrison Ford and was feeling it much like watching Pine and thinking "That sounds like Kirk" rather than "That sounds like Shatner". They both had difficult jobs with iconic characters. Solo, the character, is bigger than Ford, the actor, and imitating the actor does the character a disservice. That said, I believe no one could ever take the whip of Indiana Jones. But someone in the future probably will. And I hope I'm dead.
  24. I like to think that it’s a simple compliment. Sandra Oh’s hair is magnificent. Worthy of being described as a literal mane.
  25. As Sebastian was leaving, he looked down and spied the perfume bottle in the open bag she set on the floor. He snagged it clandestinely.
