I have no idea how Kate gets to Kevin, hopefully not driving herself, but Kate said Randall called his friend and she brought them all clothes....luckily had sizes that fit everyone. ; ) And why couldn't the kids and family stay with Miguel for the night, a hotel? That costs money and being with a friend for the first night seems to make more sense. He was getting blankets for them an pillows.

That's why firefighters look for stickers sometimes that say pets are in the house. They can hide and sometimes are found alive but need treatment. I would die inside if my beloved lab died in any way, and would probably go a little crazy with a fire, but if my husband died and left his family when the entire house was in flames and falling beams, etc. It would be crazier. A horrible scenario either way. I'm tired today but This is Us has had complaints about not doing homework about a lot of things in the past. They just don't overthink little things but it bugs people who know it's a show, but it should be realistic with medical and rehab issues, fostering, the list goes on.

I watched with CC and saw Code while she was saying goodbye right before candy machine. They said on CC that she heard "maam" as someone was calling her, but I heard Bec, maybe a mystical goodbye. Tess is his daughter grown, they say your dad is here and they aged Randall well. I tried to see credits for name, but they didn't have them.
-
He didn't just go for the burn, he was in a smoke filled house and looked horrible. Looking at it again with CC, they don't write "becca" like many heard, they write Maam" as the docs are with him. Maybe that was in her head, more mystical. It can weaken both but he had been dry for a while. Also genetic factors. He inhaled a ton of smoke though, especially going back in. I would be angry at him on one level, as Kevin said once, it was a grand gesture, loving gesture, but not very smart. My friend in the 90's lost her home and dad to a fire. Hospital checked them and Red cross came, he also died of smoke inhalation. She valued all the pics we all gave her later, family and friends to help fill the gaps of what was lost, but never would have risked their lives to get them. They all did get checked out more than they showed, but drama is for TV.

Someone mentioned that back then, she was like an adult Tess, but is going forward and backward going to be too much or do you think that was it? I understand they are losing some flashback scenes, only the younger kids have holiday's etc to throw in but forward? I don't know if I'd like that. They did say the boy would be back soon, but too soon for Randall to be on list. I'm glad we see the goodness in Randall carried on and I hope for more with Beth and the kids. Lol, I thought the worst was the bikes numbered, 1,2,3. Was Deja back or was that a flashback? I couldn't see her back on her own. I was so tired then I was bleary-eyed

Yes. and I don't think looking as bad as Jack did, they would send him home, you don't need it to be ER, but that was odd. They check firefighters who have gear more than that. I feel he looked bad when he got up at home, so it just made it worse, but he knew he was dying, how he looked at Rebecca when she left, I knew the "I love you" wasn't coming, he wanted it to be funny, but why he knew it was fatal, I'm not sure. Yes, working in a hospital in the 70's you never talked to someone like that but again, this is TV and sometimes not very realistic. I also feel a good psychiatrist would have helped Kate a lot, her feelings toward her dad she turned inward and even though she knew the coddling was wrong, he went back to get a dog that seriously should have died from smoke inhalation, and always resented her mother who really needed her. It was odd too that the dog, who usually slept with Kate didn't but then the plot line would have to be changed. What broke my heart was little things, like the joke about saving the dog when you knew that sealed it, but also the irritation that the doctor was letting him leave. I guess what's coming is telling Kevin, getting the memorial scheduled and deciding what to do with that and where to live etc. I hope there are flashbacks to the hospital, I know someone said seeing Jack isn't necessary, but there is closure for people to say goodbye. She said it was harder to not hold Kyle after the fact, not say goodbye, I hope they don't do that with Jack. When my dad died from a massive heart attack, he was in ER, and they wanted to know if I wanted to see him and I did, I needed to hold him again, I can't imagine hearing that from a doctor and leaving but more flashbacks to come I'm sure.
-
They do find good actors to play the kids. I hope Kate gets that tape on DVD too, it wont last forever.
-
I am disappointed that they lied so much to the fans. It wasn't "massive, and never seen before on tv" It was what many fans guessed and Fogleman said they didn't, he never read one comment (or did Milo or Mandy) that came close. That wasn't true. I guess I was let down that the twist just wasn't there. Soul crushing isn't a heart attack you don't even see. You knew he couldn't leave the hospital, I don't know, it just fell flat for me. My daughter went to bed, she was like, this is not flowing for me, I'll watch it later in the week. I hope they show that Rebecca stayed with him a while and held him and said goodbye. You can hear him call her name when she is on the phone. That made me cry, not the fire.

My Lottery Dream Home - General Discussion

That's refreshing, I can't watch when there is always something wrong and a huge bathroom isn't big enough, etc. They've had smarter people on the last few shows. I remember a few where they were spending just about all they had won for a huge home with no thought on how they will keep up the utility bills and other costs to keep up the property. I'll catch this soon as a rerun. thanks -
They want excitement and have a young stud in their home, the girls, who are smart, vital, funny and sexual, they should be in a home?? lol So sexist. I know the stereotype of gay couples isn't appealing to some either. There's nothing wrong with having different interests, but the plays seem all consuming and I feel it's like any couple, both have to find same interests and friends to share others but they don't have to be sexual relationships.

I fell asleep watching the one with a family of 5 kids who won and had a 2 bedroom and were looking for a bigger place. Have to catch it later on demand. Anyone see it to the end? -
Reese is cute and she has a good relationship with Dr Charles but I think her insecurity and other issues are making it hard to believe he still feels it is the right area for her. I've seen docs change from pedi to anesthesiologist because feelings and emotional tole wasn't a good fit, sometimes what you want and what you are cut out for, are two different things. She is still young and forming but they are making her out to be a bit presumptuous and ignoring her mentor's direct orders. Time will tell, but I hope the writers get a little better with her scripts. My favorite scene with Dr Charles and Reese was the guy who said he was hit by the car and was talking on his phone. Most would let it go but his instincts said better. The scene where he goes back after Reece's prompting to talk to him, made me tear up. That is the kind of real doctor people need. Takes it slow and validates the persons feelings and offers help. So many kinds of depression and still such a stigma. I hope even if it's TV, episodes like this show others it's not your fault and you can feel better.

I'm not sure but some actress's get close to extremely thin for roles, usually movie though. Look at all the Holocaust movies, skeletons, but maybe camera filters/angles and makeup can make it seem worse. This actress, wasn't ass bad but talked about her experience https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/entertainthis/2017/07/11/lily-collins-netflix-anorexia-movie-bone/465422001/ It's sad, I worked with a young woman many years ago, she was getting married, wanted to lose 20lbs, I wanted to lose 15, we both did but she kept going and going. I don't know what clicked in her brain but it was never enough and I heard she might have died. So heartbreaking for everyone, the person and her loved ones. That was very unrealistic, he is horny for the mom so he is bribing a toddler? Most toddlers don't just act up with one person although my daughter would cry with certain relatives because she sensed they really didn't like kids. I hope they aren't setting up visits with Dr Charles further down the line when he's in preschool and acting terrible.
-
I've been catching up on Chicago Med, missed first season and binge watching on weekends. I was confused with Robyns exit, she just leaves? Wasn't she back to work? They made it seem like she snuck out overnight. I love Dr Charles's character the most but he seemed a little out of it himself with his own issues. I find his approach and personality very endearing. His patience with Reese, even more so ;) Choi saying her anxiety caused them to find the patients cause of illness was kind of lame, sure, but that can't take away from what she did and why she did it, which is as important. Working in a hospital a number of years (clerical/ER) the tampering with clinical studies, the ignoring DNR's etc is made to make you feel like doctor's like Will are heros but it was scary to watch. He would have been in a lot of trouble in real life. I felt for the woman who had her tubes tied and she should know, that's her body. It reminds me of when my Gyn told me when a woman needed her husband's permission to do that, even after 5 children. When he started out in the 60's., things were so different than now. He had so many stories that would make you shake your head now.

Yes, definitely big gaps in the previews which you would expect. Everyone seemed like they were ready to go to church in the house, my friend when her house burned (and dad died who lived with them)it was them wearing what they had on, smoke damage and the Red Cross bringing clothes that weren't stylish or obviously your taste, but clean. She was surprised back then that so many items were expired that she received from RC but I think they get so many donations, having help go through them and rotate, etc. is hard. Her sister later took the kids out for clothes but yes, a few gaps to fill in that night. I hope Kate didn't go alone to look for Kevin but I doubt it. Milo didn't give exactly how he died away but did say "you think he's okay and then he's not" that exhale of relief that is taken away. We've seen that a lot on TV, someone escapes a burning car to get hit by another, so many scenarios but in his case, he has to die, so no one will really exhale much.

I hope they hear that and if there is another season, they change it. There probably will be one more, I hope. One knee operation doesn't make Grace a permanent invalid, before that, her drinking was an issue but she was fine. Having to wear too much makeup etc to entertain, not a senior living check list. No nurse or aide was brought in? They could afford a good one. Frankie had a bad situation but again one that many of us have had, much younger, getting lost, dead phone but giving her a car charger and a better phone, maybe putting her on their policy, was never addressed. There are realities to aging, but you don't treat your parents like idiots and "trick" them into going into a home. I am also surprised that Jane and Lily okayed it. Maybe to have a "revenge is sweet" episode?

Fogleman was saying in doing it that way, he is still "the fifth wheel". Even in a traumatic awful event, they all shared, he wasn't there. It's not that he would want to be, it's just another event he's not part of. I agree with him on this point. I really look forward to filling in the blanks. He said: That’s part of what excites me about the next chapter of the show. We have a lot more to learn about Jack; this show goes in really, really interesting and surprising directions. But as an audience member, you always watch the show knowing that he passes away at some point and that makes it extra loaded and sad, but there’s also this mystery of how did he die, when did he die, what were the state of relationships when he died? Once you know all of that and you go back to those 10-year-old kids and just a normal episode touching on Jack, they become different in a way that was always part of my instinct about my show. Not just more emotional or more touching or sadder, but different because you now know everything about where this family is heading, but you’re watching them before or after the storm. That is a different way to peel back, and suddenly you can look at old episodes in a different way.

It's hard to do, but that is the best way. Every time you make one the 'bad guy" it hurts the kid unless it really is unreasonable requests. Being a "great dad" was shown in other ways, Jack filming Kate, but not taking her for icecream daily (!) and saying fruit wasn't a good idea, she can ask her mom to change costumes, I'm sure the list goes on. Rebecca was her Mom not a doormat. Everyone wants their kids to think they are top dog but it comes with a price many times. I remember a young friend of my daughters, spoiled rotten by her Dad and she said one day, to me, "he does that because he is gone a lot" She looked wistful and said she just wished he was home more. I never forgot that. I wonder why Fogleman is teasing about Randall now? http://www.tvguide.com/news/this-is-us-not-killing-randall-this-season/ After all his awards and the show isn't This is Us without all 3, at least to me, why not just say, I can't see that in the future, we love Sterling. Something about a raise get brought up?? ; )

All Jack's notebooks are from work, "Bundy" or something like that is on steno book and his mug. I'll have to watch the last half tonight and see if I notice what he does with the book. Too many details sometimes for one run through but I hope after Superbowl, the "clues" will be gone. I edited post to show pic, not the best shot but that pad was more of a small pad not his usual larger one and he left it on counter but another thing I noticed was on both wrists, NO watch. Don't know what that means, but you usually don't grab your watch in a fire, but maybe on TV? When I worked at hospital's clinics, rehabs, everyone was encouraged because of theft to have valuables taken by family or bagged and locked up there. That's why some fans hoped months ago, Jack went to rehab after fire and lived for a while longer. I do hope poor Kevin isn't told by Kate and Rebecca just told the other two. I feel it should be with them all. If he was alive I'm sure they would want to be with him, time will tell if he was DOA or lived long enough to say something. I have a feeling being a schmaltzy show, he'll have touching notes in his notebook about them. Maybe he made the "peace" Randall talked about not in person so much but in his notes My son might wear his Dad's ring, for his wedding. It's way too small now and he has arthritis. I thought it was a nice gesture to keep in the family. Randall's friend is definitely not Miguel's kid, he said they will be cast this year and make appearances later when they show them all for a visit or holiday. I just was shocked that Randall thought to call her but maybe there is more to it. Obviously she was put in the mix of the dog and Steelers jersey by the writers for months, "wait until you see the redhead". I hope it wasn't just the last straw before the fire, kind of a strange plot twist.

Kevin once or twice said he had nothing from his dad but his necklace, he destroyed the airplanes, etc. The anger could have been over him dying or maybe how he died, but understandable. What did Rebecca do with his ring or watch? I would have wanted one of my sons to have it, maybe who got married first, unless she couldn't part with it. Or the watch. Time will tell but she didn't wear the ring it as my Mom did around her neck and it was special. I think although it was wooden, his hutch will save the tapes since they seem to have those in the future and some pictures. Randall takes one album they have shown later even as adults. He has it on his lap at Miguel's. There also might have been tools and things from his garage, not so much sentimental but a part of who he was. The notebook just might have been in the car since he used it at meetings or it might have been a work one and not his AA notebook. I remember Kevin wanting him to put it away when the college recruiter was coming, like he was going to go through his things, but showing how acutely aware he was of a weakness in his father, a hard thing for kids to acknowledge at any age.

House Hunters International - General Discussion
debraran replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in House Hunters International
yes, I will, lol, my daughter wants to move. I know banned words are "natural light" dishwasher, dryer and second or third bedrooms for guests that aren't coming. I will agree to city center if it has a park nearby ; ) -
That's very true. Kevin was a surly kid but he saw things with his spectrum and his truth. The line with Miguel and being able to just say something sucks was true. He just touched on it a little. He tried to tell them in the pool, when they'd talk about Kate and her weight, when Jack would just start playing with Kate instead of Kevin as he did at the cabin, even wanting him to embrace community college. Sure, that's the cards life gave him, Jack's speech at the hospital was fine, but Kevin needed to mourn and not be Pollyanna overnight. Sometimes you can't make it perfect as a parent, but you can validate the person's feelings, let them vent and tell them you are there when they want to regroup. It wouldn't surprise me if Kevin knew his Dad was drinking. I look forward to the peeling off of the layers of the three that couldn't be seen because of the mystery of Jack's death. I think that was the only bad point in the whole series, that they let his death hype to the point that it would keep the 3 of them young and anxious, just to keep this secret. That part I don't get. He was dead from day one, how he died, how his heart stopped beating, shouldn't be greater than the development of the others and please show all his layers, all his faults, how he indulged Kate, lied to them on occasion, was impulsive, but his core was good, he always loved them. And I hope we see more of who Rebecca is without Jack, who she became when she had to stand on her own. We will still see flashbacks but I hope more layers from these wonderful actors. I think in some ways, the show will get even better now.
-
I agree. You love the "Tom Hanks" character usually, but even the real Tom Hanks has his bad side. ; ) They did bring up different scenerios with Chrissy Metz but she nixed the more extreme measure for now and even then you are dealing with a real person and their feelings, not a character. I've seen in just our medical office, 3 employees do gastric bypass and only 1 never put weight back on. one put on quite a lot, so it's not full proof and can't have a script saying how well they are doing. A lawyer I know talks of "working alcoholics" he knows, they never fall down drunk at work, never slur their words, but you smell it on their breath at 10am or see the liquid lunches, their tolerance is higher but they can't go without it and weekends are usually worse. I feel with Jack, there is no way as close as he and Rebecca were, she never knew, Miguel, anyone? Liquor couldn't be in the house, so where/when did he drink? I have a friend who knows her husband who is in AA fell off the wagon. She found a can of beer hidden in trash and he seemed more laid back for a while but the breath mints, Listerine don't really work, you always smell it, there is a difference in their persona. I hope there is a flashback that shows as hurt as she was, she missed a sign because denial is such a strong emotion. It's just a TV show, but many people look at it and I feel they should show how hard it is and not make it seem like you go to therapy a month and its okay. Jack did say how he had to keep busy, you saw him praying, etc. I think it helps more than hurts, a "saintly" image to show the truth, since all saints had struggles and weren't angels. They just worked really hard to overcome their trials. Jack and Kevin can be great guys who just need to work on their own demons.

My Lottery Dream Home - General Discussion
debraran replied to AuntieDiane6's topic in My Lottery Dream Home
I just saw the one with the single mom and a teen who shared a one bedroom in Cape Cod. She won 4 million and seemed sensible, wanting to cap home at 400.000. She was likable and although I don't know her backstory, she said she worked 3 jobs at one time and now she can stay in the same area but have her own home and her son can have his own room. To see her so excited about her own bath was refreshing when some find fault with everything. I didn't love the 3 selections but the one she picked was the best. Things are so high in the Cape, it's hard for me to stop thinking "That would be 250,000 here". ; ) Just saw this article, so it explains her hesitation with spending more. The payout was much less. http://www.capecodtimes.com/news/20170309/west-yarmouth-woman-wins-4m-scratch-ticket-prize Next one is a family of 5 in 2 bedrooms and I hope they are as likable.
