  1. I thought it was ok, except for Dirk. I understand about the book character and the POV, but he just didn't fit into his own show. I also don't think the actor is all that good. On the other hand, I thought Elijah Wood and Richard Schiff were both excellent, as was the other missing person detective. More corgi, please! Also: Kitten!
  2. ha ha, I have to admit that I really don't know the difference. I thought the first scene occurred in the present, with the rest of the show (series?) happening in the past to get to that point. I will certainly bow to your greater knowledge!
  3. I watched the first 2 episodes, and I thought it was just ok. I really didn't like the beginning - I hate when they set up a show as a flashback, mainly because I just don't have any emotional connection at that point. Usually, by the time the show catches up, I've forgotten the beginning, anyway. I'm mainly watching it for the great cast, and they are very good, I just worry that the writing will be up to their level. I do like the fact that by the end of the second episode, we get a feel for the various main characters, we know the motivation for the leaks and whose behind it. While watching, though, I never was really caught up in it - I was always conscious I was watching a (perhaps not very realistic) depiction of the CIA in Berlin. Bottom line - I'll keep watching, although Sunday is pretty much the night when just about all of the shows I watch are on.
  4. I agree about it was difficult to understand the girls/mom, and I wasn't at all impressed with their products - those kinds of things have been around forever, and can easily be found at a much better price. They were cute, but I think that wasn't a real deal because it wasn't a real business; I'd be very surprised if there was an kind of update showing that their revenue increased significantly. On the other hand, who knows? I felt bad for the choclatier kid, but he was not the best person to make the pitch. He wasn't cute or young enough (like the 2 girls/mom) to get a sympathy/encouragement deal, but wasn't really old or experienced enough to address the obvious questions that were raised (expiring patents, lack of retail distribution operations). The Solemates - this is a useful product for a very narrow niche - aside from weddings (or maybe corporate shindigs), how many times are high heels worn on grass? I don't know if it was from them or another company, but several years ago I purchased similar items for my daughter's wedding (held in an arboretum). I did like how professionally the women presented themselves. I don't really use butter that much, except for baking, but if I did, I think that the biem device could be useful. It certainly is more fun to spray your toast than smear butter on it, I guess, if you still do use hydrogenated products.
  5. If anyone is interested, my local PBS (Phila/NJ) station is rerunning Season 1. Wednesday nights, 8:o0 eastern time
  6. Ha ha, that was great. Also scary. My concern: People who are now anti-trump, still won't vote for Hilary.
  7. Sorry, I thought that was awful, as so well expressed by Sarah B. I'm not sure if it's even worth giving it another shot. To me, the problems are both the acting and the writing. Acting - I assume they cast the mother/daughter in part because they look quite similar, but they also share a lack of acting ability. Writing - geez, Raimy is such a selfish, unreasonable bitch. Her poor dad can't even have one night to relax and be a normal person again? She nags, nags nags him into telling her mom these, frankly (ha ha), unbelievable things and then completely undercuts him by refusing to talk to her. This makes no sense whatsoever, either in terms of normal human behavior or her behavior as the show character. And, her treatment of poor neighbor/friend Gordo is appalling. The mom isn't much better - is it really so hard to understand that her husband wasn't present because he was an UNDERCOVER COP putting his life in danger each and every day as opposed to not being around because he has a second family or is spending all his time at the bar? Seriously, these characters make no sense whatsoever. Too bad, because I liked the movie, and like the actor playing Frank, and the character himself. Maybe I might have watched this in the summer, like I did American Gothic, but there really is so much more decent stuff to watch now. I have to admit, I totally loved the Golf mom.
  8. I really liked how they reset the characters, in a way, everyone morphed into what some of us had hoped for (Cameron growing up and accepting responsibility, Donna becoming a more sophisticated businesswoman, Gordon finally being somewhat successful) but not always in a good way. I mean, Cam did mature - but I don't really understand the total beat-down in her, including her appearance. I understand that her world was pretty much destroyed at Mutiny, but it's like she has no personality at all. I really thought at the end she was going to rip off her button-down shirt (!!) and have some kind of awesome t-shirt underneath. I'm not looking forward to the Joe soap drama AT ALL. Although, with Tom out of the picture, maybe he and Cam will just hook up as a matter of course and we won't have to actually hear it or see it. I do like how we're back to the original 3 - with (I assume) Donna saving the day, as she did before.
  9. Sorry, I did not find it awesome in the least. Sure, you're not a coward and wouldn't hesitate to face them on the battlefield (or whatever term he used). The problem is that you, Col., wouldn't be facing them on a battlefield, it would be first responders dealing with the civilian bombing victims. The are not in Gitmo because they are enemy soldiers, they don't fight battles, that's why they are terrorists. I am as liberal as they come, and that I am appalled at the prospect of a Trump (or, indeed, Republican) presidency goes without saying. I don't believe they should close Gitmo, though, because there really isn't any alternative. Transferring them to US soil only makes us even more of a target, at least in Cuba the site is securable. They're not US citizens, so the Constitution doesn't apply. I did love John's points about the sex tape (ha ha), as well as the stuff on Billy Bush. I had never heard of him, and wished I was still blissfully ignorant of what an ass he is. Agree about the beautiful cat, but the deer looked pretty good, too.
  10. Sorry, that was one of the worst episodes. I really hated those super-moms, especially when the one teared up about her ADAH son. What was worse was Barbara offering them a deal. Does the world really need more swimsuits? There are millions out there, for all shapes and price ranges. On the other hand, I guess it was pretty shrewd of them to come prancing out in their bathing suits, which was guaranteed to get the sharks attention. I kind of liked the teckdry guys (with their DRY sense of humor, ha ha), and am glad they got a deal. I don't think their retail is at all sustainable, but perhaps marketing to or operating an on-line tech disaster recovery service might work. The Famous Amos thing was both sad and horribly boring. Better editing (or maybe giving him some hyper-caffeinated coffee) might have helped. While I think the shoe light idea was a good product, for some reason the excessive jockeying among the sharks just didn't hold my interest. It did seem like they were able to take advantage of Robert's desperation. Speaking of Robert - I do like his new hair style. Also: The new intro takes WAY TOO LONG. Thank goodness I DVR it.
  11. Orza: You make very good points about the IPO. I thought Donna's look was very Texas, not Silicon Valley.
  12. Very disappointing. I hope they explore why the IPO was such a bust, whether it was due to sexism or some kind of technology concern. Come on, Diane, you should be able to help here. I have to admit that I was relieved that we don't have to spend any more time on that walking plot device, Ryan. Actually, rather than a plot device, I just saw him as a symbol of the writers' laziness. It really wouldn't have taken much effort to have made him a real, actual character. Speaking of Ryan - to me the best part of the show was Joe forcing Gordon to be more explicit about asking about the Joe/Ryan relationship. I wish they had had a physical relationship, it would have made things much more interesting, and could possibly have led to some sweet Lee Pace nudity. He is such a handsome man - practically the only one on the show. So, Saint Gordon is really becoming perfect. I guess impending death (although apparently sympton-less in this episode) has been good for him. Much as I've liked this show from the beginning, I am starting to lose interest. There better be some major action, both plot and character-wise (I'm looking at you, Cameron!) next week.
  13. Weird pitches - I thought that first one, the fake lapels, was a joke, they looked awful. I can't believe Mark gave them such a good deal. I thought the hang-ups seemed like a good product, although I doubt they can support anything with any kind of weight, but I guess they'd work for for kiddy pictures. The woman just seemed hyper to me, but certainly business-savy. Speaking of hyper - I have to admit that I liked the Ice Meals guy, and the food looked good. I would actually be interested in a paleo-type of delivered meals, but I guess the guy was such a nut he turned off the potential investors. I wonder if Lance owns any of the company? Why did the fish caller thing need an infomercial? It seemed pretty straightforward to me, but I don't fish.
  14. I thought that was a pretty good episode, mainly because I am tired of Cam's bs (Donna's characterization of her as a petulant child was spot on). I especially despise how holier than thou she is with regard to Donna's lying, as if she had nothing to do with it. If she hadn't been so selfish and irresponsible, poor Donna wouldn't have been in the position where she felt she had to do something. I have to admit that I've never understood how committed Donna is to Mutiny - I understand that she's put a ton of unrecognized effort into building it up, even if she didn't write the code herself, but it seems she could have taken her skill set (female + engineer/tech + business experience) somewhere else. And don't even get me started on Gordon. Speaking of Gordon, one thing I don't like is how he is somehow omniscient now. Doesn't he ever make a mistake? I was looking forward to seeing Gordon and Joe work together to develop the internet ( I assume), but it looks like it's not going to happen now that Ryan has destroyed the company's value. Speaking of Ryan - what an idiot, not for releasing the code but for assuming it won't be traced back to him. And this was the sharp guy everyone wanted? I was so afraid the show was going to take the easy way out - Bos would vote with Ca,. they'd tinker with the company and push back the IPO for a few years and it would turn out to be the right decision after all. Speaking of Bos - much as I like him, I still don't get why Diane is so into him. She is not just amazing beautiful, smart, charming, rich etc., but a good investor. I guess she must see something worthwhile in someone with his past, who is older and (sorry) not the most handsome man around. I'm not sure I expressed myself well, here, I certainly don't intend to denigate him, it just seems like such an unlikely, unrealistic pairing.
  15. I didn't mind having the six of them, I was just relieved they didn't throw in the GoPro guy. I think the sharks' personalities are so well established by now, they kind of slot in with each other, like archtypes. Speaking for myself, I am sick to death of literal sob stories - the only tears I want to see are tears of joy. Sorry, I don't care if your business was inspired by your dead relative, I don't care if you got laid off, I don't care about your personal struggles. If I want to know background stuff like that, I'll go to your website. What I care about is your product, its usability, price and availability. I absolutely loved the coder girl, and her app. I thought she was awesome, and a great role model - not just for girls, but for boys as well I'm so glad she didn't get an exploitative or manipulative offer. That was a good point, though, about identifying whether it should be pursued as a charity or a business. The soup lady just rubbed me the wrong way. The crying, the faces, the over-talking. I just feel she would be difficult to work with. I agree that the problem with the food delivery model is the immediacy- In lots of areas, you can pretty easily have food delivered (like through GrubHub or a local restaurant) right away. For that matter, you can easily find a pizza place near the person who needs cheering up, and have one delivered. This seems like something Amazon would or could do better. The cookies did look good, though. I can't wait for the small size beer thing to become available, as my son just informed me that just about all of his friends do like to drink beer at home, by themselves. To be honest, I can't remember if they got a deal or not, but the beer sure looked good. Hmm,beer and cookies - time for a snack:) Added: I laughed at the way the slipper guy just walked out without his NFL guy, leaving him behind. Stay classy, guy.
  16. Since Sam brought it up: My advice to Hillary: Use Reagan's line (there you go again, Mr. Trump)
  17. I don't know whether I liked this episode or not. I was relieved when we finally saw the girls playing the video game when Donna came home - I figured they either wondered off or were kidnapped while Cam and Gordon were playing so intently, since it was a while since Gordon had sent them out to play. That would have been quite a plot point, :) Speaking of Gordon - why does he have to do his radio thing in the closet? Wouldn't Donna allow him to use a corner of a room? I know he said she didn't appreciate his ham hobby, but she has been pretty supportive of him. That "little place" of Diane's sure looked pretty lived in for her to offer it to guests - I couldn't see that well, but wasn't that her medication? It took me a while to understand that Donna had had a Cam hallucination. Things I didn't like - the alleged awesomeness of Ryan, the fact that Joe's board was so quick to pull the trigger on what may have been a lucrative deal, Diane and Bos's car sex (ugh). I still don't understand why she is so hot for him, much as I like both Toby H. and his character. Things I liked: No Mutiny coder antics. Joe going nuclear.
  18. I totally didn't get the point of the extended superdelegate bit - so what if he's Hispanic (I think), a lobbyist, and one of his clients makes payday loans (yes, to Hispanics)? I give him props for being so decent and good-natured, and allowing himself to be interviewed. Is this SB being fair and balanced? Otherwise, I liked the episode a lot. I think it's pretty clear that Trump is going to "win" the debate - not because he gives "better" answers than Hilary in terms of showing his grasp of the issues (ha ha) but because he is much more likely to come out with some totally outrageous and memorable line, while she comes off as the boring old grandma. I don't know why I'm even watching this show - thinking about the election just depresses me. I'm not much of a political activist (aside from donations and signing on-line petitions, and the occasional phone call to my elected reps) but I've started wearing my "Stronger Together" t-shirt everywhere I can.
  19. Of course I enjoyed this - Idris Elba is always a treat. I wasn't a fan of Ygrette/Emma, but I think that''s just because I don't think she's all that great as a actress. I liked the red shirt fake out for her, though, where I thought she was going to bite the bullet after her tender phone call. I thought there were some big plot holes (ie, John and Emma agreeing to do it "the right way" and then rushing into the hospital by themselves without letting anyone know, that huge pool of blood helpfully directing John and Emma at the hospital although it didn't seem that any of the folks taken by the killer were stabbed or injured, etc), but it was still enjoyable.
  20. So true, but I hadn't realized this until you pointed it out.
  21. I thought Joe's visitor was a former lover who told Joe he (the guy) was HIV +, leading Joe to get himself tested. On the other hand - it seems they did have some kind of sex, so who knows.
  22. The only thing I liked: Boz driving off, leaving Cameron behind. Otherwise, I just didn't care about any of it or any of them, except for the awesome Diane.
  23. I've loved watching this - such good writing and acting, and it seemed like everyone was having fun. Perfect summer tv watching. I especially liked the first of tonight's episodes - I laughed out loud during the first committee session, especially. I have to admit that I assumed that Gustav had made his own NSA credential, although it being real works too. I can't imagine a second season, given how good this one was. I remember how disappointed I was in the second season of True Detective, even though it was good on its own terms, just because I had liked the first one so much. I'd hate to see that happen here.
  24. I really hope they're not going to spend too much time on this Cameron back story. Yeah, I realize she is the central character, but the time for that has passed. I really don't care why she is the way she is, I would prefer to see her grow up a bit and become a better businesswoman. They should take that episode time and use for Diane, who is totally awesome. I'd really like Gordon to get some respect for his bravery (in continuing to work with his physical situation), and technical and managerial skills. It really seems like he is the only one is getting anything done at Mutiny, or is able to get any of those immature jerks to do any work. I don't know how realistic their work antics are, but it's tiresome to me. I'd really like SOMEONE besides Gordon (and Diane) to be good at his or her job. I don't care who Joe is based on (jobs, Ellison, whoever), but please make him less cartoonish. Although I did like the way he just crushed that homophobe. Can the show please present some evidence that Ryan actually is a valuable asset and not just a waste of space? Why haven't they followed up on him inventing Bit-torrent (sorry, I'm not very techie, so that may not be the right term). Finally - I did love Donna's little manipulation. I probably shouldn't, but finally someone is recognizing that Cameron needs to get her act together, I hope I don't sound too negative, I really do like the show. I am somewhat apprehensive, though.
