  1. Another one of my favorite Ross moments is when Rachel is pretending that she's sleeping with him to steal Monica's thunder and he finds out that Rachel likes the way he gives massages "Looks like the only one that's going to be enjoying these bad boys (holds up his hands)...is me" (stands there for a sec realizing what he just said, then just walks away)
  2. I really don't care for Shawshank Redemption. When people talk about how it got robbed at the Oscar's I cringe. I think Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump and even Quiz Show are much better films (I've never seen Four Weddings and a Funeral.) I don't understand why it's #1 on imdb.
  3. I really hope you teach an ESL class and/or teach kindergarten. Another favorite of mine from that movie is "Mmmm. THAT is a tasty burger!" Usable whenever you're eating a tasty burger.
  4. I've never been to a Disney on Ice show, but this might change that if it comes near me. Also Frozen passed Iron-Man 3 in box office total.
  5. I enjoyed this, mostly because Fassbender as Magneto is super entertaining to watch. I also really liked how they showcased Blink's powers because she is one of my favorite X-Men characters. I heard the next movie is going to be
  6. I liked this for the most part, but it was weird seeing a CGI Godzilla that so closely resembled the original which was a guy in a the rubber suit. Godzilla had stumpy/fat arms and legs, little maneuverability and seemed to be unable to move his neck. He looks menacing, but during the fight scenes I kept thinking "this alpha predator sucks at predating."
  7. This is a bit dated but Chris Ware who you might recognize from some of The New Yorker covers he has done put out a pretty neat little book called Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth. Unfortunately, it might be hard to find and/or expensive. It's a great story and I really enjoy the the way he organizes his panels to tell stories. 380 pages I mentioned liking Stuart Immonen's art in the Favorite Artists topic but Warren Ellis' Nextwave was the first thing I saw of his. It's like Buffy writing meets Marvel (oh wait, that's been done already?) only way sillier. Also more censored cursing. And dragons wearing underpants. Also lots of this. 12 issues. Although one barely has any dialogue. Something that Nextwave mocks is Mark Millar's Ultimates series illustrated by Bryan Hitch, it is an alternate universe Avengers and was the first appearance of black Nick Fury. When Captain America meets him and tells him he's a general, Cap's response is this because he's ya know, from the 50s and doesn't know any black men with military power. It has some of our favorite avengers in slightly different roles. Ultimates 2 is also enjoyable but Ultimates 3 is possibly one of the most shoddily written comics I've ever read. 12 issues per volume
  8. I had forgotten about the details of the Sand Snakes and so I looked them up. Ages range from 7-30. Complexions range from pale to dark. Builds range from slender to big-boned. Temperments range from pious to curious to hot-tempered. "It will be the performance of a lifetime. Like Julie Harris in the belle of Amherst." I agree that the mountain hasn't been depicted as the monster he is. Show watchers know about horse killing and brother burning, but not about rumors that he killed his father, sister and first two wives. Also that incident with Pretty Pia.
  9. I've developed a very short attention span as I've gotten older so I've tried (and failed) to read a lot of the books mentioned already but just couldn't get through them. Thankfully I found George Saunders last year and really enjoyed his short stories. Working my way backwards through his collections.
  10. So lets check in on the Starks this week. Arya: Not shown. Sansa: Not shown Bran: Not shown. Jon Snow: Not shown. Called it! And my god it was my favorite episode this season. Coincidence? Probably not. Stark family status: Done and dusted.
  11. Oops double posted. I'll edit this one to be a non-duplicate. Was the implication that Ramsey killed that girl he was having sex with?
  12. Yea that was him. This was the part of the book where I was like “Yo other Storm of Swords plot lines, I’m really happy for you, Imma let you finish but King's Landing had one of the best plot lines of all time…one of the best plot lines of all time!” unfortunately, unlike the book I can't skip all the other plot lines' chapters until I get to the end of the book.
  13. I used to ride hard for BSG. I remember the moment I gave up on it was the episode where they hear Bob Dylan. I don't hate Dylan, but I was surrounded by people who were freaking out about it and what it could mean. I just said "i'm out." and it went from my "must watch" pile to my "show i never finished" pile.
  14. I use these quotes a lot, but another one that gets thrown around a lot is the "did you have an awesome time? did you drink awesome shooters and listen to awesome music?" line. Usually when a friend goes to some event (that honestly I usually have no interest in) that I wasn't invited to. I've used it so much that I just shorten it to "awesome shooters" and everyone knows what I mean.
  15. The only reason I haven't played more of this game is that the dwarf announce is so grating to me. If there was an announcer pack that swapped him out I would probably buy it.
  16. So many people are convinced that Jon isn't dead (or at least won't stay dead) despite getting stabby stabbed. Including me. I really hope that GRRM proves us all wrong in Winds of Winter. That would be the most surprising death in the series for me.
  17. Mug update: Still no mugs. However! The Castro theater is doing one last sing-a-long that I will probably attend. I hope it'll be filled with enthusiastic gays who can sing to make up for my inability to sing.
  18. I could not disagree more. I found the performances fine, but the characters were written terribly and the pacing was all over the place. The whole thing is just a series of set pieces strung together. There was no cohesive theme. Electro had no place in that movie. The godawful airplane scene had no place in that movie. Electro and Harry switch from normal to super-villain mode in no time at all. Compared with the build up of Doc Oc in Spider-Man 2, their motivations felt so rushed and irrational. I agree that Garfield is better as Spider-Man, but I don't care for him as Peter Parker. I can't think of a scene where he doesn't come off as awkward or bumbling (the scene at Oscorp is an obvious act.) Garfield plays PP the same way he does Spidey. Confident and cool and kind of a jerkass. Every time I hear a positive review of this movie I despise it a little more. Luckily I came across Film Crit Hulk's review and it evened out the scales a bit. He seemed to despise it even more than me. Three highlights: SERIOUSLY, WHY WOULD ANYONE TAKE TWO WHOLE MOVIES (AT A NEAR FIVE HOURS OF TOTAL RUN-TIME) TO BUILD TO A DRAMATIC POINT WHERE YOUR HERO NEEDS TO LEARN SOMETHING, THEN NOT ACTUALLY SHOW THEM LEARN IT, THEN SKIP OVER THE HEAVY LIFTING OF ACTUAL CHARACTER CHANGES IN LITERALLY TWO MINUTES, WHILE NOT LETTING US KNOW IF HE'S EVEN CHANGED OR DEALING WITH FUCKING ANY OF IT, THEN RUSHING THROUGH ANY SEMBLANCE OF WHAT THAT ALL COULD HAVE MEANT BY FOCUSING ON ANOTHER POINT ENTIRELY, AND ENDING YOUR MOVIE ON THAT RUSHED OTHER POINT? DID SPIDER-MAN REALLY STOP DURING AN ACTION SCENE COMPLETE WITH PEOPLE IN DANGER TO PUT ON A FIREHAT? That last one really bothered me.
  19. Ok that warging into Hodor was pretty cool and I honesty really enjoy Sansa's story line. I'm honestly not sure if you're genuine in your "Starks awesome. Lannisters stupid." credo. I was just being contrarian to even things out a bit. I like the Starks (though I do think that Bran/Jon's stories are boring) We can keep playing this hyperbolic game though and I can make a similar post next week when the Starks do fuck-all and the Lannisters are in every scene.
  20. Ha! Does anyone really think the Lannisters are more boring than the Starks? Even Arya is getting a bit insufferable/one note. I predict the next person on her list will be "that dude that looked at me funny on the kingsroad" Also, most of the Lannister talk got focused to the 100+ reply Jaime thread.
  21. Early in the season I was defending this show against someone who only seen the first season and claimed it was heavy on the rape. We're on a 3 episode streak of depiction or threat of rape. Was it really necessary to have the knife guy threaten to rape Meera again? I would get into it, but this guy does it better. http://badassdigest.com/2014/04/29/can-hulk-complain-about-game-of-thrones-rape-scene-yet/
  22. QFT I enjoyed the actress who played Lysa. She really sold her crazed lover bit. I can't wait for future scenes with her, which probably won't happen until episode 7 "Mockingbird."
