  1. When I saw the FJ category, I thought, "I'd be wagering a big fat zero if I were on the show." My confidence was well founded, I didn't even have a bad guess for it.

  8. The F/A-18 comes in two variants, the E-model (single-seat) and F-model (two-seat) - earlier versions of the jet, the A and B, and C and D, also were single/dual seaters. For many of its missions, they only need the one pilot, but for some high-workload missions, the two-seater is used to split duties. A single pilot could work the targeting system, but having another guy back there lets the front seater concentrate on flying and not getting shot down - doing some of that pilot shit - while the backseater can work the weapon systems. The two-seat model is also used for training. That was some great stuff all around. And how could you not love: 'Where am I?' 'Earth'
  9. Happy Birthday! Mine is this Friday, and yes, I'm taking the day off!
  10. Back when I worked for a newspaper, we got something like six paid holidays per year - we put out a paper every day, so if we got a paid holiday, the folks who had to work to put out the paper would get additional holiday pay. Limiting the number of paid holidays reduced that. Then I worked for a financial services company, and we got a bunch of holidays, mostly the typical days banks were closed, although we got a couple extra because we also closed when the stock markets were closed. In my last position, also at a large financial services company, I was a contract worker through an agency, paid for the days I actually worked. We still got a bunch of holidays off, I just didn't get paid for them. In addition, the company required all contractors to take at least 10 days unpaid time off each year, I assume it had something to do with our status. At my current job, started in mid-December, we get 11 paid holidays, including the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Pioneer Day...anyone else get that one? I also get unlimited PTO, and they are serious about us taking time off. We have two company-wide 'recharge weeks' where most everyone is off, and they strongly encourage everyone to take personal recharge weeks in the two quarters we don't have the full company ones. I know some people think unlimited PTO is a way to scam you out of paying for days you don't use, and depending on the company's culture, that can be. That hasn't been my experience here - counting the two company-wide weeks, days I've already taken, plus a couple days I have schedule in the next few weeks, I'm at 26 days PTO, and will likely take a handful more later in the year.

  13. Hard to say, it's so rare that I've even seen one. Honestly, what I've seen more of is during a NASCAR race, they show a clip where a driver threw out the first pitch at a stadium near the track, or showed some other sporting event nearby that they visited during the race weekend.
  14. I watch a fair amount of baseball, and they almost never show the ceremonial first pitch on television, unless it is some sort of promotional thing like the Fox/NASCAR tie-in. No conspiracy here...

I don't understand the start time, but at least the game is in Cleveland. It's not like the 12 people who would go to the game if it were in Oakland have to get up really early. 😉

  20. If the therapist has information on the player's physical condition, which could impact his play, they wouldn't want that released without the team's knowledge and approval. The NFL has rules about listing players' condition/availability to play, and teams can be sanctioned for not following those rules. What if the therapist passes along information that a player is injured worse than the team/player are saying, and having that knowledge can impact things like wagering on the game?
