  1. Much delayed thoughts on the re-view of episodes 3 and 4. When Lester returns to work, Linda mentions having sent him some soup - and soup was what she was reheating (having mentioned it earlier) in the finale when Lester came to have to leave immediately. One of the first things Gina Hess says about her boys is that they are wolves! The scene in Chaz's gun room shows the bear trap prominently displayed on the wall. And Stavros offers Malvo some out-building to live in - but I couldn't figure out if it was the cabin he is in for the finale, or some other building closer to Stavros's house. Maybe there will be some clarification in further episodes that I missed the first time around - as it seems I missed a WHOLE lot! I liked seeing Gus arrest Malvo when he/Gus goes to Stavros's house about the dead dog..IMO it's a bit of redemption for his failure the first time he encountered Malvo. Actions speak, so I see Gus's action in the arrest as trying to be the good man who does/says something so that evil will not prevail. I also saw the subsequent questioning & buying into everything Malvo said by the rest of LE as (to my mind) a set up for justifying Gus's actions in the finale. I loved being reminded that it was Molly who gave Gus the answer to Malvo's shades of green question - it sort of gives Molly, in an itty bitty way, a bit of the credit for putting an end to Malvo since Malvo told Gus that when Gus got the answer to Malvo's question he'd know why Malvo kills. Another thing I had missed was Lester picking up the zapper at Chaz's - I don't know if I should consider that as pre-planning, intuition, or just happening upon a nifty gadget that Lester figures might come in handy. Yup, definitely liking this series the second time around. I think I would really like, as someone else suggested, perhaps in another thread, to see the same actors in a second season, even if they were in different parts. But the same roles also have appeal to me - I want to know about Lou and the big deal he was involved in - was it Sioux City? I've probably got that wrong; I want to see Molly function as Chief, I want to see what happened with the remaining half of Wrench and Numbers, I want to see if Chaz looks for restitution & what kind of crap that birings up....there seem to be so many little loose ends that could bloom in to some pretty good and quirky storylines...I just hate to see this show end.
  2. What total crap this is with the scheduling!!! For the second day in a row, FIFA is on when Corrie is scheduled! I've followed all the scheduling AND checked the listings for my cable providerdaily, so I only tuned in when Corrie was supposed to be on & yet again the schedule is screwed. Here in the US I have to rely on cbc.ca for information - and all they are providing is a crapfest. Thanks to the total lack of information from cbc.ca, have no idea what is actually being shown, much less when. I can only hope there will be some end to the relentless sportcasts sometime before hockey season starts up again.
  3. Second episode today - there was not too much I didn't catch the first time around - EXCEPT, first - all the ducks at Lou's diner! I can't believe I missed it the first time. Wasn't it ducks Marge's Norm designed for a US Postage stamp in the movies? I know he got to have his design on 'one of the little ones' - a 3 cent stamp ( and WTH doesn't this keyboard have a cent sign?) IIRC, and Marge was so quick to remind Norm that it was the little ones people always need when the price of the first class stamp goes up. Nicely done. Second - I had completely forgotten that when Malvo picked up his 'Duluth' package, it contained both the book and a wallet with his ID as a minister Peterson. I had thought that the first mention of the man of the cloth alias was when Malvo either has or is about to be arrested and makes a phone call to request his cover story. ITA with ChipBach about the car salesman & his demise - that was brilliantly woven in to the storyline. Oh - almost forgot - it was the Messers Numbers and Wrench who asked why there was no library. I think I 'm actually liking this even better this time around. I love the rating my tv shows for these shows M A L V, which (I think) stands for Mature content, Adult theme, Language and Violence - put them all together with an O at the end and you have MALVO - laughed my ass off the first time that occurred to me.
  4. I am re-watching the series, but slowly to try and pick up on things I missed, or did not seem significant, at the time. For example, the last meal Lester has with his wife, apparently at lunch, was grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup - grilled cheese was what he ordered for his 2nd wife, Linda, whom he knew was lying dead at his insurance office. The car salesman guy Malvo 'procured' in the last episode, is the same guy Lester scared out of the insurance office (which I believe is the same building as the 'Nygaard Insurance' office top salesman Lester had after the year had passed), but at that time he said he worked in a library. I seem to recall - and hope to test my memory in upcoming episodes - that there was some mention made of libraries being shut down, so that may be why the poor schmuck ended up as a used car salesman - but I can't remember if the conversation included Malvo or Lester.. I had forgotten that the time when Gus let Malvo drive away from the traffic stop included Malvo being able to overhear Greta on the 2-way..I can see why Gus felt threatened and why redeeming himself in the finale was so important - instead of being one of those who remains silent in both word and deed, Gus did finally come through with the deed. Can't wait to see how many little gems I can pick up in the next episode. One big problem though, when Lester wakes up in the hospital after knocking himself to give credence to his status as a 'victim' along with his dead wife, he looks at his right hand and the injury from the shotgun pellet - which appears totally untreated! It seems to me that in the course of his exam in the ER, they would have at least been some sort of sterile dressing put over the wound..
  5. All in all, I liked the finale. At first, I was pissed off that Molly was deprived of the capture - but - I didn't see her choice as much knuckling under to Gus as deciding Malvo wasn't worth risking both her life and that of the baby. She had done ALL the work, made the connections, proven herself right and received acknowledgement of that from Bill and others, and set the wheels in motion for LE and FBI to FINALLY do their jobsl. For most of the season I have seen Molly as more the detective than the patrol cop...she has the brains to solve things and serve justice best in that way. Also, it seemed to me that her lack of anger toward Gus for shooting her was a tacit acknowledgement of her rash behavior in running after Messrs. Numbers and Wrench and Malvo, ignoring Gus's calls for her to wait for backup - Gus was right. I don't think Gus was in any way responsible for any of the killings Malvo committed after leaving the cabin - but then, it always frosts my ass to see some badguy try to put the blame for what HE does on some other schmuck because the schmuck doesn't do what the badguy wants them to. Badguys have a choice, that's on them and them alone. Lester solving the fox/rabbit/cabbage riddle was a foreshadowing - a signal that he thought fast on his feet (shortsighted as he was), so the bear trap (a move which had been telegraphed at least one episode earlier) made sense. It did not make sense to me that Malvo fell for it - he seemed to really have Lesters number early on. I plan to watch the episode again to try and decide if Malvo's move to where the trap was located was a move he would have been expected to make to avoid fire from Lester's hiding place, or a move he thought would be different from what Lester would expect of him (splitting hairs, I know,). It just doesn't make sense to me that Malvo underestimated Lester so badly. I can see him overlooking Gus, as Gus does not come across as inherently evil or courageous - Gus is one of those quiet people who surprise everyone when they rise to the occasion under the most severe of circumstances. I was VERY surprised when Malvo left his firearm clear across the room when he went to try and fix his leg. I can not see someone as focused as he ever doing something like that as long as he was conscious. The scene I liked the most was at the end, when Greta snuggles down and seems to be using Molly's baby-bump as a pillow. Ending the season with Molly still preggers was just one of many nods to the movie - I loved it. I am hoping for a second season and I am hoping Molly and Gus, et al, will be core characters. I seem to recall that Norm never tried to stop Marge from doing her cop-thing, and I am hoping the same of Gus.
  6. Just discovered this show a few months ago and am hooked. Have NO idea what season I'm watching, but I could just do a bit of google and find out - in any event, I'll follow it as long as they make it.
  7. Not a Canadian, but I do love this show! I heard some time ago that Michelle Keegan (I think I may have that correctly) was leaving, but it never occurred to me that they would actually kill off Tina - the actor is one of the BEST on the show - even if the Tina/Peter storyline sucked raw eggs. Here in the 'lower 48' I don't yet know how it will turn out - I don't like Rob AT ALL, and am hoping for a redemption moment when he fesses up to save his sis...I am hoping Carla does NOT lose the babe - but dead babies seem to be the stuff soaps are made of - at least where I live. I have come to like the character, which is quite odd as I really thought she was a waste of space when I first started watching Corrie - back when Carla was married to Paul, Leanne was on the outs as a call girl, but had the chops to blackmail Paul for something he didn't do - but I have now come to quite like her - nearly as much as I detest Leanne - but that is an entirely 'nother story. Anyhow, Why the hell couldn't it be that buttwad Norris who got offed? OR - why oh why could they not have Tracy with the guilty sign around her neck? Ever since she showed up, I have had to change the channel whenever she comes on - a more detestable character I can not imagine!
  8. Thinking about it, it has occurred to me that the whole scenario at Lester's Insurance Office was a set up/test by Malvo since (in the absence of Lester's home address) that was the only place Malvo knew for certain Lester would eventually have to show up at. Perhaps Malvo has safecracking amongst his myriad talents and found the essential passports (clearly a plot device as I never heard of anyone leaving such an important piece of identity at work). A guy like Malvo would also have observed exactly how much illumination was already in the office when he got there. Even though Lester recognized the real possibility that Malvo would be there, it was the out of place illumination that told Lester the next move was his. Malvo knew that Lester would know Malvo was inside, and if Lester came inside, it would be kill or be killed. Or, Lester could choose to drive away, make up some lame story for the wife, and try to develop a new plan to out 'fox' Malvo. Or, Lester could reconfirm to one and all exactly what kind of rat bastard he is by sending pawn/wife in to be killed, which is naturally what the scumbucket does. I have no doubt Malvo would know exactly who was wearing that coat, given the differences in height and the way she was walking as she approached the building. Malvo coming out the front door was a reaffirmation of his confidence that he is running the game, - I've never seen any commercial business that wasn't required to have TWO exits - taking the time to light a cigarette and then saunter down the street emphasizes this and gives Lester a clear message the game is no where near over, and that the next move is Lester's. After all, if Malvo could execute an entire crime syndicate in broad daylight, under the noses of FBI agents, it would have been a piece of cake for him to take Lester out in a dark parking lot on a nearly deserted street.
  9. IIRC there was a point in one episode where Lorne was telling someone about seeing a bear in a trap (I think it was a bear) and how the bear basically ripped off its own leg in order to get out of the trap - and how Lorne saw the bear, down the road, dead, a bit later - wonder if that was intended to be a foreshadowing of what happens to Lorne in the finale.
  10. I have just seen a blurb - on RHBH, I think, indicating that uber-bitch stassi WILL be back - the one thing that kept me willing to watch this train wreck was the hope that she was gone forever....I'll still watch at least the first installment, but if it's the same-ole crap I'm done...
  11. She reminded me of Robin Wright in The Princess Bride.
  12. No way IN HELL could idiot Aslaug EVER be in the same league as Lagertha! One look at a sword coming in her directin and Aslaug would faint dead away! The woman has NO stones. Gimme Lagertha ANYday
  13. Very Happy to see Lagertha back in a position of power and equality was great, in spite of the stupidly gratuitous "I like your ex-wife" speech by the eternally vapid Asluag. She REALLY needs to go - any female character who is there for the sole purpose of being a broodmare disgusts me and this character has given NOTHING to the story line other than a few vague 'prophecies' and is simply not worth watching. Floki, Floki, Floki - I have SUCH a difficult time understanding a possible shift of belief in/loyalty to Ragnar change to Horik because Horik (at least that's who I thought he meant) has be better vision of the gods and what they want from humans? Kinda destroys the whole purpose of the 'court jester' persona that this character has been put in...but, whatever...I did find Floki's dislike of Athleson a bit of a reach - perhaps it really is jealousy deteriorating into a feeling of betrayal and an easy step from that to defection - kinda hope not...but there IS the limilarity between the names Floki and Loki.... I'm really hoping this storyline has Ecbert (kinda like the dude - and hope his son is at least somewhat happy with his marriage which seems to have been Aelle's plan from the start -) simply outmaneuvering Aelle ( who I have no use for (but then I also don't really check up on what the exact historical account of this time & these people is/was) - and that Ragnar's demise is quite a bit into the future, I tknow he dies young - (40's I believe) - at least one season as I think I read something that the series has been renewed for the 3rd. I do think Travis Flimmel has really captured the essence of a man who believes himself the actual, physical son of a god, combined with that Peter Pan quality of having never grown up...I have noted that Ragnar is very fluid in his movements, never static or stolid, more flowing than standing stiffly to stem the tide of what comes at him...at times I like him, at times he really pisses me off - more credit to the actor for his delineation of character. As much as I disliked Jarl Borg, I must admit to some admiration for his character in the acceptance of his death by blood eagle - the scene where Ragnar comes in front of Jarl to replace Jarl's hand back on the sidepost it had fallen from was near perfection - two enemies, each on an unavoidable path, yet in that one moment, with NO stupid dialogue to interfere, conveyed understanding, acceptance AND respect..I had a very hard time watching that scene (as I do most of the really bloody ones, but I do as that IS how it was, so why try to deny it)- I had earlier read exactly what the whole blood eagle thing was about and decided I would stay with it - as did Lagertha who I think was nearly alone in that among the main female characters. Don't know what Siggy did then ,don't care as her character has really deteriorated into a whorish confusion of love/duty/ambition - but maybe that's the point.. That scene was such a perfect definition of Lagertha's character - the life of a shield maiden in that time in that place - it was well done. I have a lot of sympathy for Athelson - caught between two worlds and, understandably a bit mentally imbalanced after having been crucified...I can see his desperate re-acceptance of the 'church' and 'god save england' yammerings as the manic proclamations of a man who fears the possibility of a second crucifiction...but I kinda hope he ends up with the Vikings....And I am hoping they don't end the series until Ragnar gets at least as far as France - if I'm not mistaken that's where the name Normandy comes from... All in all, it is a captivating series - and MUCH better than any of the other offering on prime time TV these days.
  14. I've seen quite a few of the season reruns & pretty much enjoy them, but would really LOVE to see Season 1 again as I had only discovered the show part way through the season and missed the first few episodes. This past season was definitely a low point - but still not as bad as the Texas season. And I really wish they would make a change with the finale episodes. I guess I can understand wanting to have the finale in a different venue, but I'd kinda like to see the season end where it began - it actually seems like a bit of an insult to pack up and go elsewhere for the high point of the season. Looks like they're doing the Las Vegas season today - another season I was pretty unhappy with. I really hope Bravo steps it up with the next TC season, cuz so many of their other 'reality' shows simply suck raw eggs.
