  1. Today's show "Outrageous Parenting Styles" Repeat, 2/21/2013 "Amy is an over-protective mother who does everything she can to keep her five kids from feeling hurt or disappointed, including doing their homework and flossing their teeth, Dr. Phil tries to get her to take a step back." Dr. Phil, 15 minutes in and already Shill is talking about "my son Jay - did you know he has his own publishing company?" Missed this the first time it came on. The mom is a piece of work, a truely horrible person. Even after she cried and whined about her horrible life, I couldn't feel sorry for her. Really, everything was all about MOM, even getting MOM help was all about MOM, not really so much about getting her to back off and let her kids floss their own damned teeth. The closest thing to mentioning getting MOM to back off was Shill pointing out that the 15 year old boy who was begging MOM to stop doing his homework so he could get his own grades merely pointed out how amazing MOM was as a mother even though her life was absolute hell and she's got a horribly damaged child inside her that needs help. That woman has some serious enmeshment issues with her kids. And once again 'my son Jay' has a publishing company and Dr. Shill has a book called 'Life Codes' that 'my son Jay's' publishing company put out. You should go get a copy.
  2. Lillybee said: So true. Not sure if I could mention other sites here, but there's at least one out there that devotes a large portion of discussion to fundism, submissive wives, legalism, paternalism, etc. There's one woman out there who blogs that sometimes she decides during the day that instead of cooking dinner, she'd like her husband to pick up a pizza on the way home. Does she call her husband up and ask him how pizza for dinner sounds? No, she prays that God will "lay it on her husband's heart" to pick up a pizza. I'll bet that if by some miracle her husband decides to get a pizza, it would never occur to him to call his wife and tell her not to prepare dinner, he'd just pick up a pizza and then be disappointed that the little woman isn't in tune enough with God to know not to waste food by preparing a meal when a meal is already on it's way. How can people live that way?
  3. Andi might have a distinct type that Marquel doesn't fit. She might prefer white men, and that doesn't make her racist. (My own mother recently pointed out to me that all of my serious boyfriends and my ex husband all fit the same mold: over six feet tall, burly, thick dark hair and at least some facial hair. I honestly had never noticed that before...) Andi also seems to prefer athletic types, and Marquel looks athletic to me, so athleticism itself isn't enough. I think the deciding factor is a hint of aggressiveness, possessiveness, and/or douchiness. I haven't seen any of that in Marquel. However, I've seen hints of aggressiveness and douchiness in Josh, and more obvious signs of possessiveness and douchiness in Nick. It's like Jillybean said:
  4. re: Crying baby - I highly doubt Marquel made the baby cry, or even made it a bit scared or unhappy. I say that because the baby's mother was right there and I have no doubt that if a strange mime was coming toward my baby and my baby didn't seem to like it, I'd give the mime the 'back off' signal and get my baby out of there right away. Instead she stood right there and let Marquel approach in stages, there was plenty of time to prevent him from getting too near the baby if she was worried about the situation. From Andi's remark I suspect the baby was more likely giving Marquel a WTF look, and Andi was just joking around and making the situation seem worse than it was. Kind of like when a person says something stupid in public and some passersby gives them a dirty look. All of a sudden the story becomes funny with jokes about how "I thought that little old lady was going to hit you with her cane when you said that!" The situation seems funnier when the 65 year old woman who walks just fine becomes a little old lady with a cane, and a dirty look becomes a near attack from someone who is unlikely to be able to actually hurt anyone. YMMV
  5. I could be wrong, but I once knew a guy who had the same problem, just not as bad. He had scoliosis of the spine, and his parents opted not treat it. Nothing the state could do, at least back then, because it wasn't a life threatening issue. Anyway, as he grew up, his shoulders sloped quite a bit, and he developed a 'widow's hump' that caused his neck to lean forward, making his neck seem to almost disappear and his head looked like it was resting just on top of his shoulders. He was frantic to earn as much money as possible to try to fix the problem, or he'd be almost incapacitated by spinal arthritis by the time he was 50. I've seen JJ be very understanding with people with disabilities in the past, but maybe she hasn't had to deal with this type of disability before (if the plaintiff does in fact have untreated scoliosis). Either way, I wonder if there was more to the case than we were seeing. Then again, I've watched her become more and more intolerant over time and I think she should retire. Too bad she just signed on for another three years.
  6. It's about time someone told that little monster to behave. Sorry I missed it.
  7. I don't know if we'll ever really know for sure just how things really play out with that bunch. But I'd guess that all the TLC income is evenly split between the wives, although I've also heard that it's split five ways between Kody and his stable. I don't know how much money the MLM is bringing in, but that is supposed to also be split evenly. I can't imagine the SWC is bringing in any income, they're probably lucky if they break even on that mess. Christine will never work outside the home if she has her way. Neither will Robyn. Meri's employment history is spotty at best, and if she ever goes back to work I'm sure she'll do her best to keep the money for herself. Same with Kody. Janelle has the best record of work history and work ethic, but even she has been disappointing since the move to Vegas. Now she has her realty license, but I don't know if she's really trying to make any sales. However, if she were to earn a commission I'm sure that Meri would be right there with her hand out waiting for her share.
  8. That's just it, I don't think that Meri will contribute to anyone but herself or her daughter. This is the woman who just had to have a wet bar and french doors. She whined and insisted to the point that Kody was asking Janelle or Christine if they had any of their housing budget left over that he could give to Meri!
  9. I know that today's show was a repeat, but I hadn't seen it before. The first couple was a guy who claimed that his marriage wouldn't have imploded if it weren't for his MIL. As the interview progressed, I became convinced that the husband was mostly to blame with his controlling and hostile behavior, while his wife and MIL were less to blame. Then I left the room and I heard Dr. Shill talking, I think he was saying something about how to help them, but by the time I returned the show had gone to commercial break. I wish I was more surprised that when the show came back the first couple was gone and another couple was onstage. With the second couple, the husband was a serial cheater and had decided that he was done cheating and wanted his wife to stop thinking he was lying to her about where he was and what he was doing. The wife seemed to be almost completely wiped out emotionally, I got the impression that she would never be able to believe in her husband again. Suddenly Shill says "You have problems with your stomach, right?" The wife says "Yes, my stomach is always upset, I have trouble sleeping, I get flashbacks about all the stuff that's happened." Then dear Dr. Phil says "Imagine if you had an app where you could press 1 button on your phone and suddenly you were face to face with a doctor who you could talk to...." I just hit the mute button and shook my head. Once again, Dr. Phil has brought troubled people on his show to use them as advertising for one of his other businesses, or the business of one of his friends or family. I hate that man.
  10. I've heard that Deanna's season was pretty interesting. Seems that the men looked like they were having more fun with each other than with her, & I've heard she got pretty testy as a result. I should look it up sometime, to see if she managed to get a man out of the season or if she decided not to choose anyone.
  11. I skipped the show because Tom Looze was on. That man makes me want to destroy my TV.
  12. Robyn is the brunette, the newest wife of...3 years, maybe? She was raised plyg, her first marriage was supposed to be polygamous, but it didn't work out and she's now on marriage number two with Ko-douche and his miserable stable of wives. Meri set the whole thing up because she wanted an ally in the continuing tension between the wives. Janelle and Christine were united against Meri, so Meri brought in reinforcements. It kind of went tits up when Kody liked his newest wife much better than the other wives were comfortable with. Plus Robyn has an annoying habit of trying to set the tone for the family, trying to run interference for Meri when there's a problem, trying to push the other wives into her stupid jewelry business, and then she had the nerve to get pregnant and has acted ever since like her baby with Ko-douche is the second coming. Then she offered to have another baby for Meri, but she probably realized that Meri really didn't want another baby, Meri wants something to complain about, a 'woe is me' story. Meri used that offer to keep the show held hostage for one or two seasons of "will she or won't she?". Finally Ko-douche put an end to it by telling Meri that he wanted an answer right now or it was a no go. Meri couldn't bring herself to say yes, so the offer is apparently no longer in effect and there are reports that Robyn is pregnant again. Now Meri is heading back to school again, where I personally doubt she'll accomplish anything. And Robyn is still trying to figure out why the other wives won't help with her jewelry business and why they're not lining up to take care of Robyn's brood for her. Should be fun.
  13. Of course Not-Harry is a bore. He's trying so hard to give the impression that he's Prince Harry without actually saying the words, there's no time for anything else. As it's terribly unlike he's even been introduced to the real prince, much less spent time with him, Not-Harry can't even tell the jokes he's heard the real guy tell. He can't say that he prefers trout over salmon because he knows the real prince feels that way, or fake any number of things someone whose actually spent time with Prince Harry would be able to do. The most laughable part of all of this is that all of the women are spending so much time on convincing themselves that he's the real deal, that only their most basic personality traits are showing up. And Not-Harry is in the same boat. They're all so busy playing a role that they aren't able to step back and really get to know on another.
  14. There was a camera crew there, so she was safe from being caught nude by Not-Harry. Remember, she got out of bed wearing a bra and panties and stood in front of the camera to stretch. The only reasons I can find is if one girl likes another and wants her to look good for the cameras, or if they want to be seen as caring people (epic fail there), or there's some portion of national pride that makes them want to avoid the Ugly American stereotype (another epic fail).
  15. For me, the show has been sliding into mediocrity. I'm pretty sure that I'll watch next season, but I'm not sure if I'll watch the whole season. I've been increasingly disappointed in the direction the show is taking. There's far to little of what made the show great, and far too much of what has ruined the show for me.
  16. We used 'like' when used as a filler word for our drinking game. Halfway through and my group all had to switch to water.
  17. I'm on the west coast so I have yet to see the episode. We're planning a drinking game (I'm using water to spare my liver). Anyway, what are some good words or phrases to use?
  18. That must have happened during the time I was on the phone. What happened?
  19. I know they've been renewed for a second season, but does anyone know the approximate date it returns? Also, only 8 episodes seems a bit anemic to me.
  20. It's been reported that Ben has moved out of his parents house and is now living closer to the Duggars. How much closer I don't know. He's also reportedly working for someone called Mr. Jim. Doing what, I don't know. And Jessa now has Twitter and Instagram, so it's quite possible that she and Bin are actually engaged now. I really hope it's a long engagement.
  21. If Kody 'marries' Robyn's sister, I guess she'll have to live with Robyn. I can't imagine that bunch would be able to finance the building of another home, and there's no way in hell that Meri would share her wet bar with another woman.
  22. Root told them. She explained it when she called Shaw during the firefight in the Science Lab. Root knew that Vigilance was changing the way they passed information to each other, so she leaked the information of where two of those who Vigilance sought were located. She used that leak to figure out how Vigilance was now communicating with each other.Pretty shitty that Root didn't warn Reese or Shaw in advance. She waited until they were in the middle of the firefight to call and 'apologize' and explain. Even a few minutes warning would have helped, but that wasn't happening. Since Root takes all her instructions from the Machine, I guess it was the Machine that told Root when to call. Makes me worry about the Machine. I worry if the Machine has learned just enough to manipulate people, then it will use them up and spit them out when needed. Maybe Harold made a huge mistake when he told the Machine that it couldn't worry about saving him, that it had to think of the primary mission first. I can't think of a reason that the Machine would delay telling Shaw and Reese about how they were found out by Vigilance, they're both well-trained and smart enough to continue the mission without tipping off the added threat of the V people.
  23. Really enjoyed the episode. Got to see plenty of Reese, Finch, and Fusco. Shaw didn't bug at all. Bare minimum of Root. But no Bear, :( I'm not even sure if Bear is still with Finch, or did I miss a line about Finch arranging for a sitter for Bear? I wouldn't mind seeing this week's POI again, (and I bet Shaw wouldn't, either). <wink> I bet there are a number of ways to use the skills of a good prosecutor, except I imagine he'll lose his job and his license over this.
  24. Bo was driving me nuts tonight. Such a brat. Of course it all worked out in the end.
