  1. For those of you who get Esquire in your cable package, they're running an all-P&R marathon (except for a few hours of ads during the graveyard shift) this weekend, through Monday night. Season One started about 2 hours ago.
  2. And there's one simple question they never asked that could have answered the "question" without any experiments. If going through corners in a four-wheel drift is faster, why haven't any of the thousands of pro and amateur racing drivers competing on road courses in the last 40-45 years been doing it? Sure, maybe back in the glory days of fat drivers and skinny tires it might have been effective, but with the tire technology developed in the last half-century, it's NOT faster, loses grip and just scrubs off speed. It DOES look cool though, and gets big grins from the fans. But it ain't gonna win you any races except in Formula Drift.
  3. I think PBS or at least our Chicago channel showed one at the end of the first or second episode they aired, something about ice cream and how street vendors used to use the same small cup over and over again to serve their customers, but had to stop the practice because it was spreading disease. I don't remember seeing any after that, I guess previews for Downton and other programs were deemed more important.
  4. Make that "One of the THREE people who don't watch Downton Abbey..." :- D
  5. Based on the map, most of the pyroclastic flows and heaviest ashfalls were directed towards the south and southeast except for the one that destroyed Herculaneum. The hills 8 or 10 kilometers to the east of Vesuvius would have probably been out of the danger zone - which the TARDIS would have known, of course. http://quemdixerechaos.com/2013/11/07/translatingplinypt8/
  6. According to WTTW's Guide for November, "Elephants Can Remember" is scheduled for Thursday Nov13, from 8 to 9:30PM, followed by a repeat of "The Big Four". The following Thursday "The Labours of Hercules" debuts at 8PM, followed by a rerun of "Dead Man's Folly". Thanksgiving has "Curtain" scheduled from 7 to 8:45 and apparently repeated from 8:45 to 10:47, followed by "Being Poirot", a repeat of the special with David Suchet. There will probably be additional broadcasts on WTTW Prime and Create, I don't want to flip my computer 90 degrees to read the multi-channel schedule pages. And the final three episodes will be followed by ... . . . . ... A PLEDGE WEEK! Here's the Guide link: http://www.wttw.com/res/pdf/guide/WWCIGuide_November_2014.pdf
  7. The penguin series was very well-done and a lot of fun too, and had the added bonus of David Tennant's narration in his native Scots accent. That voice can always make me a bit wibbly-wobbly. And this Sunday, in Chicago at least, we have "Death Comes to Pemberley" on Masterpiece Mystery.
  8. They're both watchable, and of course the scenery in Caribbean Mystery is a nice plus, although we might appreciate it more in mid-January. I may have to watch it again though, either my ears were playing tricks on me after several seasons of watching "Death In Paradise", or did the local Police Constable actually have his office in "Sainte Honore"? The shoutout to "Bond - James Bond" was cute although I don't remember that being in the original story.
  9. There's a full synopsis of each episode available on the PBS website. Click on Special Features under "Season 7 Episode 2" and then on Synopsis - Full Synopsis. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/programs/episode/miss-marple-s7-e2-greenshaws-folly/ The biggest shock was finding out that the housekeeper Mrs Cresswell was played by Julia Sawalha, especially after watching her just a few days ago playing a very young Lydia in the 1995 version of Pride And Prejudice. She looked completely different, there wasn't even a hint of Lydia or Saffy to jog the memory
  10. I gave it a couple of weeks, but as hot as the Beanster is, I just can't get into the story. Gritty cop/crime/spy shows just ain't my cuppa. I may tune in once in a while for the eye candy though.
  11. A few favorites here at the Bucket (pronounced Boo-KAY) residence: "I'm sitting here completely surrounded by no beer." and "I'm off men. There's not one of them worth shaving your legs for." And a special favorite of Mr B, courtesy of Titus Pullo "It's as hot as Vulcan's dick"
  12. Going WAAAAAAAAAY back here... Guy Williams as Zorro - thanks for the eye candy, Mister Disney! Leslie Nielsen as The Swamp Fox and Robert Loggia as Elfego Baca weren't half-bad either, back in their younger days. And Richard Greene as Robin Hood from the 1950s BBC serial. Heroes have always been my weakness. Now that I'm in my declining (or is that "reclining?) years - Sean Bean. From Richard Sharpe's hotness to a bunch of Masterpiece Theater and movie roles, he always curls my toes. Even with his miles showing as he ages, he's still Sex On A Stick. (I'd kept myself un-spoiled and was all ready to watch the entire downloaded first season of GoT until I accidently found out what happened in the last episode. Deleted the folder and never watched any of the series.)
  13. My all-time favorite commercial - great visuals, a clever way to get the product's benefits across, no lisping kids, harpy moms, clueless dads or overly-annoying music, in fact, no dialogue at all. And it's a shoutout to classic Bugs Bunny cartoons.
  14. I caught the "SCDP" too, but missed the rest of it, too busy shouting "Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce!" to the DH. Still gave me a giggle though, especially when you think about Morse's growing passion for Jaguar motorcars. It's always good to find Mad Men references!
  15. BTB can be salty but if you add it to a soup or stock near the end of cooking, the stock won't reduce enough to turn into a salt lick. Amazon usually carries some of the BTB flavors, but the best source for me has been SoupsOnline.com. It looks like they carry all the flavors including several Vegan, Organic and Kosher varieties, and many are often on sale, like now. Their flat rate shipping charge is only $5.99 Hope it's ok to post a link: http://www.soupsonline.com/m-48-better-than-bouillon.aspx
