  1. AMEN to the commercial-hate! I can't hit the Mute button fast enough either. And I grew up listening to Dylan. But his voice in that particular song drives me right up the wall.
  2. Pete DeLorenzo speaks the Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing But The Truth, and always has. I was in the retail side of the "car bidness" for more than 25 years and he knows what he's talking about. Glad to see another Autoextremist fan here!
  3. She finally traded in the roadster? Little girl's growing up.
  4. No love for Columbo? My Sheridan would be APPALLED! And of course: Keeping Up Appearances Fawlty Towers Midsomer Murders (Thank you, Acorn!) Frasier Animaniacs ANY nature program or series from David Attenborough The old Adventures of Robin Hood series from the 1950s, also each and every rebroadcast of the Errol Flynn flick from 1938 Flight of the Conchords The "Big Three" classic detective series from Masterpiece Mystery - Miss Marple, Poirot, and Sherlock Holmes
  5. Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Silver-Maned Baritone From Siberia, Dies at 55 Much too young. Beautiful voice, beautiful man. Some of his best, including the Duet from The Pearl Fishers: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/22/arts/music/dmitri-hvorostovsky-verdi-tchaikovsky-youtube.html F*ck cancer.
  6. Backtracking a bit to cartoons - I agree that the 40s thru 60s were the Golden Age. Looney Tunes and Rocky and Bullwinkle were my faves and are still funny today, the dialogue and puns still make me laugh. But the 90s had some gems too, like Duckman, The Critic, Cow and Chicken (The Red Guy is one of the best characters EVER!) and especially Animaniacs - great dialogue and animation, exceptional voice artists and without a doubt the BEST songs and song parodies ever written for a cartoon series. Warner Brothers hit one out of the park with that show.
  7. The very dishy Mr Bloom is in "Judgement Day", Season 3, episode 3
  8. If you find the Baez concert on that channel there's a 90-minute Emmylou Harris concert listed right after both the Sat. Afternoon and evening broadcasts - Emmylou Harris at the Ryman, today 5:30 PM and 12:30 AM Central, and then Sunday afternoon at 3:30. Good luck!
  9. Not only can the lady still SING, but she still looks absolutely stunning! If she's had any "work"done to her face, it was very subtle and if possible she looks even better than she did 50 years ago, especially with that gorgeous mane of silver hair. And if Judy Collins or Joan Baez fans have more than one PBS channel on their system they might get lucky and catch Joan's 75th Birthday Concert special if they haven't already seen it since it's been showing up in a lot of the regular Pledge Week/Month sets. Our smaller PBS channel WYIN in NW Indiana (also available in most Chicago cable systems or with an antenna) is showing the concert twice today (Sat Sept 2) and once tomorrow under the Great Performances listings. Yes, Judy is one of the performers, along with David Bromberg, Jackson Browne, Mary Chapin Carpenter, David Crosby, Emmylou Harris, Indigo Girls, Damien Rice and others. Joanie looks damn good for mid-70s too!
  10. On official sites the term "Bake-Off" includes the R inside a circle indicating it's a registered trademark. It may become a moot point though, the contest is on indefinite hiatus. Pillsbury says they're "currently assessing how this 67-year-old contest comes to life in a relevant way for a new generation of home chefs."
  11. “The thing is about TV programmes, it’s about format, not the talent, it’s always format,” argues Paul. Yep, I wonder how that "not the talent" bit is working out for the Beeb's current version of Top Gear?
  12. It was nice to see the lizard again though, even just for a few seconds. I missed the little guy.
  13. THAT'S why his voice sounds so familiar! It's been driving me nuts for three weeks. The face didn't ring a bell but the voice did. Father Ted was fecking brilliant.
  14. Yep, some more information would be nice, especially since Googling "Barney Miller marathon" just leads to a bunch of dead ends. HOW ABOUT IT, RYAN CHAMBERLAIN???
  15. And I really feel sorry for the poor guys in the Detail Shop who have to clean up those cars they just traded in. Bet those seats have a unique layering of textures and aromas that will have to be steamed out.
  16. Jeeves, that depends on your opinion of, and how careful you are with, my Royal Doulton with the hand-painted periwinkles. And please DO bring your Master, Mister Bertram Wooster. My sister Rose would simply LOVE to make his acquaintance! Unless he has hairy toes, of course.
  17. They're also showing the classic British series The World At War, which I remember from maybe 40 or more years ago. Still one of the best history series ever made. They're not showing episodes in sequence, but hearing the commentary from participants on all sides who are now just names in history books is fascinating, as is seeing the events from a Brit-centric point of view. Highly recommended. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World_at_War
  18. Just a quick correction, Matilda was the daughter of Henry I, not Henry II. Poor Henry Two had enough headaches already because of his rebellious brood without adding another one to the mix. Henry II was Matilda's son by her second marriage to Geoffrey of Anjou. A quick plug here for one of my absolute favorite films about Henry Two and the rest of the dysfunctional early Plantagenets - the 1968 film version of The Lion In Winter, brilliantly acted by Peter O'Toole and Katherine Hepburn, who's apparently a direct descendant of Henry's fiery queen Eleanor. Great dialogue (even if more 20th than 12th Century) and perfect casting.
  19. (And I love yours too, another LOTR fan here!) I think you'd be much more elegant company at one of my Suppers than that brute Henry, king or no! I wouldn't trust him within 10 feet of my Royal Doulton. But any descendant of kings and even a Maia is always welcome in my humble home. Just remember to remove your shoes before entering, I've just had my woodblock floors re-varnished.
  20. If you search YouTube for "Lucy Worsley documentaries" you'll find more. She's one very busy lady.
  21. The Billy Goat Curse is now OFFICIALLY dead and buried - Congrats from Da Sout' Side, Cubbies!
  22. Add another 3500 for the Plymouth Scamp version and no, it didn't exactly set the market on fire. But it surprised a few cars on Route 45 back in the day. Hee hee.
  23. It wasn't one of their best-sellers, but it was a hoot to drive.
  24. Really? You must be very young. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Rampage Meet the Dodge Rampage.
  25. Greg Feith, formerly with the NTSB, is no slouch in the looks department either. He made CNN's mind-numbingly constant and repetetive coverage of missing Malaysian Airlines MH370 almost bearable. And I love his ties.
