  1. Just finished listening to the audio version of Time Lord Fairytales and it was a lot of fun :) Some are better than others but overall it was very enjoyable. Various doctors pops up in some of the stories and some do not have him but usually feature a monster we have seen. And the narrators were great- different person for each story including Tom Baker, Michelle Gomez, Nicholas Briggs, the actress who played Elizabeth I in Day of the Doctor, Ace, Danny Pink and others. Highly recommend if you have to take a long car ride.
  2. Also- if they go "there" with Jessica and Luke- I think he would have also needed to feel the extent of Kilgrave's powers if he is truly going to forgive Jessica for Reba's death. They made such a big deal about the fact that Luke had trouble understanding thees kinds of powers- to make him a believer he was going to have to experience being controlled and doing horrible things under that control.
  3. I realize I might have to give this some context- I apologize if this is already known. The line came from The Wedding of River Song. When 11 asks River to wrap his bowtie around her hand she asks what she is doing and 11 tells her "as she's told." For some reason, when Clara delivers it it just comes across as arrogant- IMHO. I actually kind of love it when the companions call the doctor on his "stuff"- that's why Donna was great. But assuming you know better than the Doctor is a character trait that just didn't work for me. But YMMV.
  4. He does it once in the RSC production of Hamlet too and I had to giggle, but he did it at a funny spot on the play. So, I know the feeling. But I think Ritter is really going toe-to-toe with him. For me she was the wildcard because I'd only seen clips of her other stuff, but color me impressed!
  5. Plus the bus driver was drunk- he swerved to miss Reva but probably overcompensated somehow and apparently lost complete control of the vehicle which subsequently hit Kilgrave.
  6. Thank you so much!! That was really bugging me. I had to do that too- Girl In The Fireplace and The Wasp and The Unicorn. I also watched bits of What We Did On Our Holiday because I still needed a laugh. This show was very dark :) I agree that it was surprising there were no safeguards in place- I half expected another version of the 2 servants who had razors to their throats when Jessica broke the bottle- but a mass suicide may have been a little TOO bleak. Was shocked by his character arc- I also thought he was a throwaway. I haven't been that surprised by a show in a long time and it felt great- Kudos :) Am also really happy that the response has been so good- this show deserves it.
  7. Rewatched and still wasn't moved to tears. And I was inconsolable when Donna got her memory erased and the Ponds left- shed a few tears for Rose when she was on the beach and was actually rather happy for Martha- but this just didn't do it for me. And I should point out that I was relatively new to Who when I saw Angels Take Manhattan- Karen Gillan just killed that scene. I really do think the length of the goodbye speech was a problem as others have pointed out. But I also think I have pinpointed the moment Clara lost me as a fan and it was when she told the Doctor to "do as you are told." Here's hoping the next companion is less doctor like.
  8. OMG- you read my mind :) Loved JJ. Good episode- great performance by Capaldi- his scary suppressed rage was very well done. Hard to mourn Clara since I haven't really liked her much this entire season, but very good setup for the end of the season.
  9. Can't decide if "oh for god's sake, it's Patsy" is a shout out to Absolutely Fabulous :) Also the huge stone angel in the park- just screamed "don't blink" LOVED the series- I had hoped Kilgrave would make it to series 2 but I thought the ending fit. Loved the noir feel of the episodes and thought the storytelling was, overall, pretty well paced. I found the writing more engaging than Daredevil and the acting was fairly superb- although I expected that. Tennant was amazing!! My qualms mostly came with a few of the subplots wasn't that interested in Trish's boyfriend. But by the end I wasn't sure if it had to be included because of possible future developments. Trinity's divorce was dragged out FAR too long Didn't love the attempts to throw science and secret power boosting potions into the end Did Jessica only own one pair of jeans??? I need an answer on that
  10. Personally. I think this is too pull the spotlight off Joshie https://www.yahoo.com/parenting/anna-duggar-called-out-for-baby-daughters-outfit-161122144.html
  11. This more than anything else this season- and possibly in all of NuWho- is a matter of taste. I happen to detest open-to interpretation type stories so this was really not my cup of tea. But I also found the soldiers to be overly generic and the acting only so-so. JMO but I was bored. I have enjoyed Gatiss' writing but this missed the mark for me.
  12. I really hope the second option is true. If I rewatch this I'm going to go with that interpretation- so thank you :) The re-setting seems like a callback to The Beast Below- Liz 10 had gotten to that room lots of times and then chose to forget. What I like there is that at least she- of her own free will- is chasing to forget, not having the Doctor zap her.
  13. Capaldi was fantastic! He brings all of Tennant's intensity without being as shouty- and I love 10- but tonight's episode is why I believe 12 may be the best doctor ever. 10 out of 10 performance That said- I'm sorry but the story bothered me. Kate is not allowed to kill million to save the lives of billions, but Bonnie is allowed to kill 100s with basically no consequences and is forgiven in the bargain??? I get that to stop a circle of violence, there has to be forgiveness and growing, but apparently this has happened 15 times, so what exactly is being learned? I guess YMMV- I can "forgive" Missy for the dead snipers in the square because she has't turned "good" and didn't pretend to, but this just leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. One- albeit fantastic- speech from the doctor and we are to forget the UNIT soldiers, the pilot of the president plane, the new science gal at UNIT? And not just forget them but count on that person/zygon to patrol the peace? My head is spinning, but I don't think this will be a favorite for me.
  14. What I found interesting about that is - and correct me if I' wrong- didn't Osgood already have a sister? In DOTD the Zygon teases her because her sister is the pretty one, right? So did her original sister just jump on board with the Zygon double? I'm not sure that will be answered in the next episode, but it is the sort of dangling thread that drives me nuts :)
  15. Yes- you are right- sorry :) Just wanted to point out that the First was seen by a couple of members of Unit. BTW- does anyone else think the Osgood box looked a lot like the Moment?
  16. Yeah, but I think Harry, at least, meets or sees him in The Three Doctors- that's how they could have known what he looked like. I liked this one, but I agree that Osgood won't be THE hybrid- I have a feeling that's still coming. But tremendously good to see her again. And Kate may not have been at her best- and I'm not sure we'll know that until next week- but I consistently love her shoes and appreciate that they are always spunky- nice continuity. I am really liking the whole Doctor faces the Consequences- wink NM- arc this season i.e. Ashildur, Davros, Zygon. Very subtle (compared with Bad Wolf) but it's really working for me. Will need to see Part II to know if this pays off, but I'm looking forward to it.
  17. Kelly's outfit always reminds me of Judy Jetson- anyone else?
  18. Just an fyi for anyone looking forward to next weeks Zygon epie- there is a really good Zygon story in the 8th doctor audio adventures. Not sure if it is considered "canon" but I like trying to get my ducks in a row for the next episode. Please feel free to correct if you see errors- my Whovian knowledge definitely has some holes :) The companion at the time- I think her name was Lucy- has an aunt who actually married a Zygon. And she knows he is a Zygon. He took the place of someone who was dying and lives with her fairly happily (I think they open a B&B in Scotland?) Everything is going well until his buddies invade. Long story short he sides against them but can't save his wife. He takes her form when she dies, so I think Zygons can take the form of the dead, but I think you have to keep the body around- I'm pretty sure the first guy was in some kind of stasis chamber in their basement. I have forgotten how he took on his wife's form. So, there are "good" Zygons. Not sure what if anything that will mean for next week but just wanted to throw it out there.
  19. I'm going with this- to be honest it was contrived when River said it, and it's still contrived now- but an explanation is necessary and this what they came up with. I also think they might have directly referenced 11 when he said to Amy that he chose her because "he couldn't see it anymore." This fits a bit more because Ashlar clearly could not see it. All in all- and after a rematch- I really did like this one.
  20. I thought that the happiest Meri looked all season was when she spoke about Maddie's announcement, which was a nice moment in an otherwise extremely dull episode.
  21. That was very good- still digesting, but very moving. Guess he fixed the sunglasses, which I'm still not liking. Loved that we see some of the Doctor without the companions and with other people. 11 spent a lot of time alone or making other friends- i.e. Ridell from Dinosaurs in Space-, and I always thought it would be interesting to play around with those gaps.
  22. The editors loved both of them, but I thought they were great too! I always think these African eppies are some of the toughest because of the animals and lack of food, but these two had a great plan with their big five and little five. They did their homework and it all paid off. And they were both decent human beings- two thumbs up- I couldn't even snark at these two.
  23. Is there any word on which episode will be the "companion-heavy, doctor-light" one? That should give us some clues about her fate. I had warmed to Clara, but she is leaving me cold this season. Would she have to be with Danny in order to get a "happy" ending? Any word of if that actor has been in Wales?
  24. Bringing this over from the episode thread because I wanted to get some opinions on the end game for Clara with a couple of episodes under our belts. I think it is not looking good for her either, but I really don't want to see the doctor mope for a season like 10 did after Rose left. Mainly because Clara is really annoying me this season and I'll probably be pretty happy to see her go. And I will be extremely upset if
  25. Elle, it was called Doctor Who The Ultimate Guide. Should be on youtube but might be in parts. The bit I was talking about is the opening.
