  1. I thought I was again not going to be rooting for any player in particular until I heard in the intros that Jill was from Dedham, Massachusetts (clearly wasn't paying enough attention yesterday). During most of my teens and twenties, my paternal grandmother and aunt lived there and my folks and I visited at least annually if not more often. Since my aunt passed away this past October, I have even more fondness for any place she lived. Since I am now rooting for Jill, I have probably doomed her, poor girl. Count me in the Les Nessman group for FJ (one of my top two ever Thanksgiving episodes of television as God as my witness). The molasses joke would have tickled my late father's funny bone and gave me a continuing chuckle - another reason to value this forum. Everyone in the path of the cosmic cold, stay safe and warm!
  2. Since we had a preemption on Friday, I wasn't particularly rooting for anyone tonight but I went through the same close reading of the FJ clue that you did Teebax to make sure I was answering correctly.
  3. I am in deep mourning about Elsie because the TS makes me feel really old. I have fond memories of passing a billboard with a three dimensional head of Elsie going to church every Sunday and every other time I went to downtown Detroit for most of my childhood. Also did anyone else hear Rachel say ill instead of ail in the two vowel category? It is also what my closed captions said.
  4. Sorry Saber5055 - I definitely didn't intend ridicule and I apologize you saw it as such. Please chalk it up to the difference between reading what I wrote and how I might have said it in a conversation with humor but not ridicule (and maybe a modicum of assuming innocence among posters).
  5. Boys in the Band is definitely not a musical. It is a play about several gay men in the 70s (I think I am right on the date - may be 60s and I read it in the 70s). I ran the Plays and Musicals locations category but wish not so many had been popular movies. Also was Caberet the only musical? If so, boo! All three players were good but I will admit rooting against Haley only because of her swaying (which I might doing without realizing it myself).
  6. I was saying to Mother Grundoon that Broadway Musical would be my dream FJ category but if I were on the show, I'd be afraid I'd get cocky and end up making a fool of myself. When the clue came up, I was thinking well pride goeth before a fall when the answer popped in my head. I saw Jersey Boys some years ago and vaguely remember the narration but it was mainly the seasonal aspect that helped. For both of them to come up with the same wrong answer seemed wild to me. But some of my favorite Sondheim musicals have had odder themes than Thomas More.
  7. I am in the same boat with bad things are bad. I even called and emailed the station to protest. Good luck J5COCHRAN!!!!
  8. True child of the 70s here - I still drink Tab and am constantly explaining to youngsters that no it is not something new. For me, the most nostalgic moment so far has been the Cold Duck appearance in Peggy's Day Out. I am a proud Detroiter and Cold Duck was invented in the restaurant where my parents had their first date. At one point in my life, it seemed the apex of sophistication.
  9. I enjoyed the episode very much but hoped they'd circle back to the crab that got away.
  10. I was sort of rooting for Evan as a fellow Michigander (although he is from the other side of the Mitten). All three players were good though. The FJ quote sounded way more Hooverish than FDR-like but the second guessing mosquito got in my brain and who knows how I would have answered in the studio. What an exciting week for all of us in the forum. Best of luck to both J5Cochran and Teebax. Happy thoughts directed westward to you both. I hope I get to see J5Cochran. The Detroit station will be doing a special on the upcoming Auto Show at 7:30 but I hope that means they will bump Wheel of Fortune at 7 instead and showing Jeopardy.
  11. Longtime lurker, first time poster (in this forum). I agree with most of the comments here but did appreciate one sweet moment today - Whoopi's tribute to Carol Channing. I saw her on stage in the 1970s, grew up on her cast albums and was lucky enough to be in a small theater audience with her in London in the early 80s. She came in just as the curtain went up on an intermissionless show so she didn't cause a distraction but was gracious to all of us as we exited. While we showered her with compliments, she praised the show and performers (deservedly). A class act and we need more of them these days. I was glad Whoopi recognized her.
  12. I too was very sad that Carrie Fisher was a TS, especially since the clue gave Joely's last name. I maybe at a lonely table for one but I wouldn't have given credit for Brandenburg Arch as an answer. I have only ever heard it referred to as Gate, including during a long ago visit to West Berlin when crossing at Checkpoint Charlie scared the bejeezus out of me. I don't remember if that would have altered the outcome but it left a bad taste in my mouth.
  13. M. Darcy - I had the same dilemma, even started thinking Ellis Island but talked myself back into Liberty. Teebax - wishing you all the best and I will live up to my no snarking pledge in your honor.
  14. Zoey1996 - I think Evan got Rosebud since I was amused it was an answer given Siobhan's story about sledding down the Great Wall. Also thanks for the DoG street mention for my Williamsburg nostalgia. I am now salivating for a Cheese Shop sandwich with extra house dressing on the side.
  15. FJ was an instaget for me for an odd reason. I am watching Parks and Recreation for the first time on Hulu since I am a massive Good Place fan and they share creators. The Sopranos logo with the R as a gun was a plot point on an episode I watched yesterday. 6 degrees of Jeopardy! Jessica played well but her "I'm the champion" routine at the beginning got me to root against her. But if it is a one off, I can be persuaded to root for her again (although thinking Snoopy was a WWII flying ace almost doomed her in my books).
  16. Browncoat - it was fascinating reading your posts about your travels. I am a devoted cruiser but not sure I will be adventurous enough to try that one. Zoey1996 - I remember snowfall in the Burg very well. They shut down the College for 3 1/2 inches during my time there and I got out of Norfolk one spring break just ahead of a storm that closed the airport for days.
  17. It was actors and their television roles. Very sad it was a Triple Stumper for the Jeopardy contestants. Possibly as divine retribution by Chuck, they all missed Final Jeopardy as well.
  18. I have been a devoted Supernatural fan although slacked off in later seasons. They have a rabid fan base and depending on whose writing the episode, there can be almost as many pop cultural, mythological and historical allusions as an episode of Jeopardy. Got Arisophanes as a guess and was 98 % sure on RLS since I couldn't make any other Scotland-South Seas-19th century connection. Wasn't surprised someone said Gauguin but was surprised all three got it wrong. Still what I can answer easily at home and what might possibly come to mind in a television studio would vary wildly.
  19. I got Christopher Robin but was confused by the wording of the clue. Milne's When We Were Very Young is one of my childhood favorites (also Pooh of course). James James Morrison Morrison pops in my head a lot (and is currently lodging there). I am probably at a lonely table for one but I was bummed they didn't finish the Plantagenet category. Years of British history also occupies space in my brain.
  20. Okay one last rant for the year from a perturbed but proud Son of the Desert- learn some basic Laurel and Hardy people! 🤣 Seriously Happy New Year everyone - you all have brightened my 2018 and I look forward to 2019 with you too.
  21. ODAT was the answer to a Jeopardy question on December 26. Sadly no one got it. Several of us are talking up the show on the Jeopardy board.
  22. Oh, Teebax - you beat me with the post about One Day at a Time. Such a great show. I am already counting down the Days (one at a time) until the new season drops in February- after you conquer your audition. Matt76 - glad your nephew won but no the clue referenced the British show on which it was based. But at least his answer met the category requirement.
  23. Charnel was a deserving winner, especially given the gutsy DD betting but I thought they all did reasonably well tonight but I will admit being distracted by some remaining holiday food prep. And on that note - Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good Night! 🌲🌲🌲🌲 ⛄☃️🎅🤶
  24. Both Mother Grundoon and I noticed Jackie just fading fast last night and after several other times she had come from behind it seemed odd. Glad she is okay and getting help. She wasn't my favorite champ but I wouldn't object if she got an invite back in the circumstances. As a loyal Son of the Desert (or daughter of), Laurel and Hardy was a bad answer. As an old movie fan, everyone should see at least one Hope-Crosby Road picture. Have discovered a new nightmare category for me - Scientific Terms. How to feel like an idiot for all values, Alex?
  25. Jackie isn't bothering me as much as before since I find it amusing when she can't think of an answer and gets mad at herself (classic Grundoon behavior) but her getting Billie Jean King wrong with such certainty got me irritated for some reason. I was wildly guessing with FJ and said the Appalachian Trail. And I agree, enough with not clearing boards. Every category is someone's favorite.
