  1. With Broadway being one of my dream categories, I was hoping for a less current show but I am glad a couple of them knew it. I am with those who love Speechless and was sad it was a TS. Hope some more people check it out, especially since it is being moved to Friday this fall. I would also visit the Denzel Washington Monument. I have loved him since St. Elsewhere days.
  2. Thought of all the Virginia/W&M people on the board when Newport News was an answer. I spent way too much time at Patrick Henry International Airport back in the day. Liked that it was a close game up until FJ but I didn't have a rooting interest in anyone. The new champion made me feel old since my longest serving friend and I go back much further than 20 years but I will wish her good luck even though she is from Ohio. (Michigan and Ohio don't like each other much ?.)
  3. You did good Scott and will be missed (at least by this forum). You made me feel connected to Jeopardy in a six degrees of separation way so thank you for that. Enjoy your winnings and take the route 66 road trip. As someone else mentioned please post along the way, especially from the Wigwam so we can all enjoy it. Thanks again for sharing your experiences. Count me among those who will root for Jim tomorrow.
  4. Congratulations Scott! I am among those who were very nervous in the Jeopardy round but your comeback was amazing. I will politely join with Kimmmmmm that the bridge and city are Mac-in-awe while the fort is Mac-in-ack. But way to go follow Midwesterner.
  5. Zoey1996 - thank you for posting about Sweet Virginia Breeze. You made me smile way up here in Michigan. All the lyrics popped into my head and took me back to long ago W&M days when Robbin Thompson and his band played campus and town events. I may even have an old vinyl album with the song on it. Once again, Jeopardy and this board have made my life a little brighter.
  6. Late posting about Monday's game (was in Windsor Ontario last night waiting for Detroit/Windsor fireworks). Count me in the proud W&Mers who got Rochambeau thanks to time in Williamsburg. For tonight I just started laughing when Kit Carson was in the clue anticipating the comments here. Continuing laughter with the FJ wagering but kudos to everyone who called Kelly as a one and done.
  7. As a Detroit native with the last name Howe, if I had a nickel for every time I have been asked about Gordie, I wouldn't need to win Jeopardy. Can't wait till the new bridge named for him from Windsor to Detroit opens. I will feel like a celebrity. Also the Niagara river is one of my favorites - lovely from any bridge as some else mentioned. Also the drive from the falls up to Niagara on the Lake is beautiful and leads to a great town.
  8. Rubaco - maybe we can be roommates at the home because I was right there with you on Beverly Hillbillies and Carroll O'Connor. Also while I was impressed with the new champ, I kept wondering if his parents allowed him to travel by himself because he looked 12 to me.
  9. Greekgeek - original production of Fiorello was in late 1959 just before I was born. Grew up listening to the cast album which opens with a siren which got me up and moving as a toddler. Favorite two songs are Politics and Poker and Little Tin Box - learned those lyrics way before I knew what they meant.
  10. I loved the Pulitzer Musical category. My favorite one though is Fiorello and I was pretty sure it wouldn't be included. Happy that the ex-champ got Sondheim but looked on in disbelief when she thought Hair was from the mid 70s. Also I am old enough to remember the big deal when Agatha Christie, Miss Marple and Poirot died. Finally I am also a Don't Shoot Me fan. The first season episode where they got stoned on candy from China is one of my all time favorite sit com episodes. I use the line "ooh, ooh, board fell" a lot when things go wrong. Not many people get it though ?
  11. I have learned about furries through friends who have gotten involved. They are reasonably normal humans with several hobbies, including being devoted to historic base ball games (which is perfectly normal since it is my summer obsession too.) Glad Josh won but seriously a TS of the butler did it when butler is in the clue. Also icepick in Mexico = Trotsky.
  12. For me, FJ was an instaget from Theodosia. Haven't seen Hamilton but hear Dear Theodosia on Sirius Broadway fairly often. Also a few years ago, there was a novel about her. Plus early American History would be a good category for me. Odd that both the guys picked Lewis though although the year may have misdirected them. Also color me sad that Steve McQueen and Wanted Dead or Alive was a TS. I feel old. ☹
  13. Oops forgot to finish random thoughts. Youresourban - have a great vacation. Mystery Author - have read some of your books and enjoyed them but trust and believe I would buy a copy with that dedication.
  14. Random thoughts from someone who forgot to visit this wonderful forum yesterday. As I have said before, 1776 rules (saw both Broadway productions, okay one on tour and own the movie on dvd). Didn't know till much later how much it could help in Jeopardy. Don't know which hurt more - my ears from Randy shouting or my eyes from his shiny suit. BTW Randy, I haven't read War and Peace either but I figured out the clue. Also color me sad that no one knew Pride and Prejudice. My Jeopardy nightmare is that I might finally make it to air and have a Krishna night. Poor guy.
  15. Too bad none of them knew the musical "1776" or they would have known Lighthorse Harry Lee as one of FFV.
  16. Toothbrush - I would say I would fight you for Jesse L. Martin but since I am old enough to have seen Jerry Orbach in the original production of Chicago (and to remember Bobby Kennedy's assassination), you could probably take me. ? Was glad to have two Michiganders in the same game, sorry to see them lose but at least Indiana is nearby.
  17. Frank Lloyd Wright. The only work I knew by Spenser is The Fairie Queen and thank goodness it was right.
  18. I took it Wednesday night. Based on the Jboard list, I got at least 37, maybe 38 (because I truly can't remember if I typed Yosemite or Yellowstone) but so much for my chances this go round. I did try to take some good luck vibes from the fact that Detroit was one of the interview cities and that the very last question was from one of by dream categories (Broadway) and the answer was one of my all time favorites (Chicago) but it was not enough.
  19. It hurt my heart that no one got Guys and Dolls.
  20. I also thought of Mystery Author during the mystery category. I couldn't run every set of clues they could come up with but it would be a category I would be pleased to see. I was rooting for Kate as a fellow Sondheim fan but then she lost me with her panicky guessing and Andrew Lloyd Webber (sorry ALW fans as I am ducking for cover from chandeliers descending) . Loved the Table Tennis category since I work with aficionados, including one who calls it a bat. And finally why I love this board - Carmen Miranda Warning -> Lenny Briscoe in a fruit hat. :-) I got to see Jerry Orbach in the original production of Chicago - still one of my top ten theater memories.
  21. Teebax - I am right there with you about Earth, Wind and Fire. Love all their stuff and September is my go to song when I need to brighten up my day.
  22. I was so sad that Love Letters was a TS. Like all of Guerney's plays, it is funny, touching and a delight to see performed. I went for Icarus at first for FJ but switched to Daedalus at the last second. At least they all got out of negative territory more quickly tonight.
  23. Totally ran the Musicals category - would love all Broadway questions if I were on the show. Glad Jamie didn't win - I appreciate enthusiasm but to paraphrase Frasier Crane "You are allowed to have an unexpressed thought from time to time." FJ was an Instaget since i remember being on a flight from Detroit to Mexico City that day. During a stop in Chicago, they showed live tv coverage on the plane (a big deal in those days) and the pilot announced during the flight that Ford had been sworn in and we were probably crossing flight paths with Nixon's plane.
  24. I spend my summer watching Vintage Base Ball (yup that's how you spell it) so the minute he said it, I was Team Travis. But I really liked Kevin too, especially with his handling of the Playwrongs and Unreal Ministries categories. Oh Jeopardy you hurt my heart and brain!
  25. I prefer not to believe Bartleby was a TS. I am also in the group that calls it my favorite Melville and favorite short story.
