  1. Oh, spoke too soon. Better keep that ego in check, Cam. You haven't won the Super Bowl yet and besides that there's just no reason to be a hubris-flavored asshole.
  2. Well, disappointed for my team but at least it was a more exciting game than the first half would indicate. Now I'm rooting for Carolina to do it all and win the whole shebang.
  3. Oh come on, 2016! Please stop taking the good ones. Come on, I'm sure Andy Dick is available!
  4. Holy crap - I mean, I know he was only human but that is one I really didn't expect. Sad news. Guess I'll be listening to lots of Bowie tomorrow at work. RIP.
  5. I've always wondered about this. Walsh played well the rest of the game. It's not like he's a bad kicker. Yeah, he missed at an important moment, but is that worth giving up a player over? I mean, I understand if kickers are a dime a dozen, but are they?
  6. Nah, because we're going for the five seed.
  7. That motherf***er has not been forgotten about! For real, I don't see Larry not addressing that pretty much at the top when the show comes back. I'm curious, though. Larry seems to straight up hate Cosby. And not that he doesn't have good reason because...Cosby. But I wonder - did Larry know something or did he just get some creepo vibe off of Cosby? Larry's certainly been around and been in the TV world long enough to have seen something. ETA: Oh, hey, Google and ye shall find. Cosby was apparently an asshole to Larry's mother. I'm looking forward to having the show back. Mike Yard and Holly Walker, for me, have been the total revelations of the show. I consistently laugh at their bits. I don't like Ricky Velez, but for me the real weak link is Grace Parra. She seems to have to goad the audience into reacting, which is never good. I hope this year there's less of her.
  8. I gotta be honest, I did not see this coming. WTF, ATL/Carolina.
  9. I thought if anyone was the weak link it was Brad Pitt. His character was just sort of...there for me. I could think of five other actors that could have been dropped into his role and it wouldn't have made a difference. But then again, I've never really liked Brad Pitt as an actor.
  10. I really enjoyed it. I thought they took a subject that was always intended to be difficult to understand and made it into something very interesting and comprehensible. Steve Carrell definitely knocked it out of the park. I generally don't like seeing movies in the theater because I have a hard time sitting still for that long, but I was riveted to this one. I thought they did a great job of holding the tension. Even though I knew what was going to happen I still watched in horror as it unfolded. I never would have guessed that I would really enjoy it based on not loving McKay's collabs with Will Ferrell, but I thought he did a great job blending some comedic moments with the very serious reality of what happened and not moralizing on the people themselves. To me the movie had a very clear POV, knew where it was going, and didn't waste time. I could watch it again.
  11. I'm already with you. Those commercials are so obnoxious. I don't know which commercial in that series I hate the most. His friends are beyond stupid. Let's just assume for a second that these people aren't familiar with a company that's in the top ten of the Fortune 500. Every major American company that has anything to do with technology will have developers doing new and cool stuff and that's probably really exciting for him. So the stupidity is already blinding. And then, even if you don't understand what he's talking about, he's clearly very excited so just go with that. "You're excited about your new job! Excellent! Here's a cake!" (Also why did they have a cake if he was making some surprise announcement?) But then when that guy asks his friends if they know what GE does, something in his tone sounds so condescending. And I'm sure it's just my issue living in a tech-heavy town where every other person is a techie who can design some brilliant new program but can't look both ways when wandering into traffic, but it makes me hate him too and then I want them all to go away forever.
  12. Damn it, Ravens, Rawls is out for the season. It's the injury time of the season. Every team is plagued, but it just sucks.
  13. Ahhhh yesss a place where I can let my Lifetime movie flag fly. I was perusing the On Demand Lifetime catalog and came across a movie about some high school girls who need money so they turn to hooking. The main character is concerned about paying for college, which is why she does it. I was half amused and half amazed at the fact that "the paper" published a story about her based on almost such thin logic. Like, it was halfway to libel, based on what they knew. And here are three seventeen year old girls hooking, mostly to pay for college, and the reaction is "you terrible human beings" and not "that is so beyond messed up that college is expensive enough that prostitution seemed like a reasonable option." And yet, the acting was semi-decent. Has anyone else seen this one?
  14. Happy 50th anniversary of the Superbowl era, everyone, let's celebrate with a wacky, injury-ridden season!
  15. As excited as I was to see Stew Beef again, I was saddened to see three quarters of the first responders panel unable to attend or passed away. I'm glad Jon returned to do that one himself. And I was really glad that Trevor got out of his way for that little bit. Trevor's good and I think I like him more than most, but it was really a moment for Jon.
  16. Yeah, I actually found this part shocking. Dude said that bit about the grounds proudly and Marcus didn't even blink. I almost thought I must have misheard because Marcus isn't an idiot and surely he must know that requiring employees to do work off the clock is problematic. I think last season Marcus dropped by for an interview with PTV? I'd really love him to come back because I'd reeeeally love to hear why Marcus didn't seem to think that was an issue.
  17. I took three months, but I work full time and was shooting for a relatively high score. But I can't imagine signing over my car during that period. Being able to drive and not having to waste time waiting for the bus was hugely helpful. That loan sharking case...I was kind of surprised that the plaintiff even brought that suit. How could he not know that was loan sharking? $4000 loan, $400 a month in late fees, but that's not loan sharking. I was a little curious about the late fees vs. interest thing. Whenever I've seen a traditional loan, it's late fees if you are late on a scheduled payment whereas interest is what is charged eeach month so that the lender can make a profit and because money is generally worth more today than it is tomorrow.
  18. Oh, I forgot about one. I hate those stupid state farm discount double check ads. Particularly the ones with the refs and none of them knowing what just happened. 1. Why did you throw a flag, then? 2. You are getting paid to do a job, freaking do it. 3. Don't you have fifty squillion extremely HD cameras pointed at the game? Why not use your instant replay? Logically this one just doesn't hold up.
  19. I don't know who voices the Home Depot commercials, but they're my favorite because that voice is just so dang pleasant that I don't even notice that they're trying to advertise something at me. Yes, whoever you are, let's wallpaper my fridge and paint my kitchen sink, or whatever the Hell you're talking about. I'm there. Also any commercial featuring Terry Crews is automatically at least decent because Terry Crews is a delight.
  20. Your nieces aren't wrong. Based on what I remember from when I sold engagement rings (years ago), chocolate diamonds are diamonds on the lowest end of the color scale. These are diamonds that would have been ground up for things like drill bit coating if some clever ad agency hadn't come up with the term "chocolate diamond" and then run an ad campaign. Also (in my humble opinion) Vera Wang's engagement rings are tickity-tack-tacky. Over-designed and fussy. Generally they're designed to be busy so that your eye keeps moving and you can put a lower-quality diamond in the setting without it being terribly noticeable. And if you go to Kay's, Zales, or Jared, you are very probably going to get ripped off. A friend of mine went into Kay's to look at engagement rings and I went with him as his designated "no you may not buy that" friend. Many of their diamonds weren't GIA or AGS certified and their stuff was several hundred to a thousand dollars more expensive than what you can get for a comparable diamond by going through a broker. I'd say my favorite part of Christmas being over is that the jewelry store commercials go away but they don't because then we're on to Valentine's Day. And I agree with y'all, those car ads are infuriating. Actually, I could probably do a solid ten minutes on why I hate nearly every car ad I've seen in the past month. And no matter how Nissan tries to convince me that their standard sedan is going to blow my socks off with fun, I still don't believe it. I've driven several Nissans. My mother owned one. I had one as a loaner when my car had to go in for major repair work. Excluding the Z, which was designed to be a sports car, they are stable, relatively affordable cars that will get you from Point A to Point B.
  21. Well that last minute was pretty exciting there.
  22. Petition to call this one The Season Of Surprises? The Broncos backup QB just beat Brady and ended the Pats' shot at an undefeated season? Did not see that one coming.
  23. I'm not convinced he's said anything useful in the last three and a half hours, so I'd be more than willing to believe that be likes to rag on Peyton. My personal feeling about most of the announcers is that they decide what "storylines" they're interested and what things they want to say prior to the actual game. Then they'll shoehorn it in one way or another.Re: Cam's dancing. I'm not mad at it, generally speaking. The only times I get annoyed about that sort of thing is when a team is losing badly and wants to peacock on some play or when they celebrate something relatively minor like a gain of three yards or something. I do agree with whoever said it that Rodgers' championship belt thing is a little self-centered and silly, considering that his throw doesn't mean jack unless there's someone on the other end. But it's hardly the worst thing about NFL games.
  24. I'm fairly sure he hates Seattle. He's been slobbing Roethlisberger's knob all day despite the fact that Ben's thrown three INTs, all of which turned into points for the Seahawks. At this point I'm kind of wondering if it causes him physical pain to say anything nice about the Seahawks.
  25. Yeah, I watched that show for about 20 minutes because I wanted to feel better about real estate prices in my area, but those agents were so dumb that all I could think was "you're making money because the NYC real estate market basically just prints money, not because you're any good at your job." You're not wrong. Although my personal opinion is that I'm not going to watch or not watch a network because of the name. If you have a show I'm interested in watching I'm gonna watch.
