It was nice while it lasted. I'll miss Alicia.
  2. @PRgal I'm so impressed that your little boy ate such a grown-up meal. And no whining for McNuggets? Very good! πŸ€—
  3. Are you near a walk-in clinic? They'd have a better idea--especially of what's going around in your area, or if you're showing the signs of a sinus infection.
  4. Heh...mentioning drinking on soap operas made me think of all the cups of coffee consumed on Guiding Light. I'm not much of a coffee drinker so it was very noticeable to me. Every scene in which the characters would meet to discuss, ad nauseum, the current problem, out would come the coffee pot, cups & saucers. This was back when the theme music was played on an organ 😁. My parents served cocktails. After dinner, they'd offer cordials (?)...creme de menthe, peppermint schnapps, etc. I think I recently gave away those teeny, tiny glasses. The social life sure has changed from our parents' day.
  5. I know this isn't the movie thread but I just want to say that we watched The Holdovers on Amazon prime this afternoon & I loved it 🩷. It's my kind of movie & they don't get made very often these days.
  6. We just watched this movie on Amazon prime and really liked it. Actually, I loved it as it was a trip back to the Boston area where I lived for a few years right out of college. That section of Massachusetts is just a different world, especially beautiful in the snow. It was filmed at several different prep schools. This is my kind of movie and I wish there were more being made (as they were back in the late 60's & the 70's). While making supper, I thought about the end and wondered if he really did have a friend in Syracuse.
  7. Tierney was a psycho? Was it true that, while pregnant, a fan with measles approached her & she eventually lost her baby ? Agatha Christie wrote a mystery about this happening to an American actress. I think the title was The Mirror Cracked From Side to Side. Elizabeth Taylor played the actress in the (TV?) movie. It was supposed to be based on what happened to Tierney.
  8. I couldn't get over how handsome Dana Andrews was in his younger years. I only remember seeing him in movies when he was older. And Gene Tierney was stunning! Fun to see Vincent Price as a young man. I only recognized his distinctive voice at first 😁.
  9. Grilled pork chops in my UN sauce, sweet potato casserole, and spinach. It was really good but I destroyed the air in our house by burning the last pork chop in my Grillade. They never put an exhaust fan in our kitchen so I only have the fan over the stove (it just recirculates the fumes). Interesting that our inspection guy never mentioned this 24 years ago 😑
  10. Well....I was just watching Laura on TCM and had to turn it off as it got scary toward the end. They know who the killer is but the detective leaves the apt w/o setting up any protection (like a guard). Can someone tell me how it ended? I'm too chicken to watch the end 😱 Also, these old movies have way too much smoking (and I used to be a smoker).
  11. That's what I began to suspect after a while. I don't have many "friends" on Facebook (per my choice) but a number of them have 300+.
  12. @EtheltoTillie But you're in NYC, land of a million pizza parlors so you can go out and get a wonderful, real Sicilian pie, right? Great save with the sauce. The only pizza I dare make is the flour tortilla in the cast iron skillet type. Haven't made it in years. It's not bad (for someone w/o a pizza stone).
  13. I don't know about Facebook. About 10 years ago I started searching for people I knew when I lived in another state. Not long after, one of those people showed up when FB started that annoying "people you may know" thing and I figured he noticed that I was searching his name. So, I haven't wanted to "spy" on anyone ever since. I really couldn't imagine him being interested in what I was doing in life as we weren't friends, just part of a large, mostly singles social group. I no longer use my full name on FB, nor a photo. Most folks I casually knew in the past don't know my married name. Hmmm 😎
  14. That sounds like it's trying to be Sicilian pizza, the only thick crust pizza I'll eat. I'm no pizza making expert, but I think one has to have a real pizza oven to properly create that nice crunchy, delicious crust (as opposed to those bready crusts). Haven't had Sicilian in years (just waiting to first hear from folks about a great Sicilian pie 😏). I'm glad at least one part of the recipe, the sauce, was good!!
  15. I figured once you registered, all you have to do is sign in when returning to the site. It's the same overall site. Ticks me off when sites are a PITA to use.
  16. I went to Reddit com and was scrolling past all the areas of interest and hit "continue". It told me to select *something* so I looked it over again and clicked on Seinfeld and skating. I figured those were safe subjects. I registered via my email and enjoyed reading stuff in these two categories (no crazy warriors 😊)...but now I can't get back, in so maybe I need to register via my Gmail account.
  17. Remember the Dana Sisters? Where can I find these old series (including pre-1959 Nancy Drew books)? Too often these books are updated, modernized (removing a lot of interesting features).
  18. So...I'm not the only one! I've been a mystery book reader since I picked up my first Nancy Drew in 5th grade. Now? I keep wondering if something interesting is on my phone. The only mysteries that can hold my attention are the oldies (e.g. the Miss Marple series & some of Christie's other sleuths). They totally remove me from today's world. Last week I cancelled a book that had just arrived at my library branch. I re-read the description and it sounded too much like what's happening (or may very well happen) right now. It's no longer escapism. I prefer to step back into the world of afternoon tea & scones by the fire, the quieter times.
  19. I just signed up at Reddit. My only areas of interest are Seinfeld and figure skating. No wars, no down voting (so far). Just memories of hilarious lines on that TV show, and interesting stuff re: competitive skating.
  20. I was going to make chicken soup today but will do that tomorrow as we ordered Afghan: chicken kabobs, basmati rice, cooked/ somewhat spicy spinach, and naan. 🎢Less work for mother 🎢 😁
  21. There's also the wristband with two beads on it. The beads need to be against your inner wrist.
  22. Was it last week when we were discussing skintone leggings? That episode of Fixer Upper is on right now (S5E5) where the wife at the reveal, is wearing leggings and at first I thought she had nothing on under her long top πŸ˜†.
  23. We really need our gall bladders so I wish some genius could create a replacement! For me (gall bladder removed in 2008), my main issue is excess bile that causes diarrhea. So, several years ago my gastroenterologist put me on Colestid 1gm. It absorbs the excess bile. I keep Lomotil on hand for days when I think I might have a problem while out & about, but otherwise, one Colestid each day is all I need. My sister takes 2 or 3 a day. Some folks have no problems post surgery. Others need to be careful re: certain foods. You find out what to avoid over time.
  24. Amen & hallelujah! @Yeah No Cruises are fun for those who do not have motion issues. But they're not fun enough to suffer physical miseries throughout the trip.
