Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
annzeepark914 replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
@Cloud9Shopper Since you're planning to move to a different church choir, go ahead and let the director know how embarrassing it's going to be when this man stumbles through his solo. It will not only be a bad reflection on the soloist, but on the director as well. -
Welcome, @Jeeves I knew I'd seen your name before. This is a good group!

Well...if Mr Gloom wins and eventually gets to the Masters, he faces James & Mattea.

I only got two TS's: ladies room and a favorite word, pulchritudinous. Hooray! I was rooting for either Ike or Melissa.

Gee...I forgot all about the infamous missing mayonnaise! Now *that* was important, my friends 🧐 -
https://olympics.com/en/news/figure-skating-amber-glenn-usa-champion-2024-role-olympic-dream-exclusive A nice article about Amber. Her multiple year quests at Nationals reminds me of Rudi Galindo's efforts. So glad both of these excellent skaters finally won the gold!

I think it was Seinfeld who used to do a routine about where items of clothing disappeared to (usually after a fun ride in the dryer). Call Jer...he may know. -
I'll have what they're having 😏

Wow. Barbara McQuade looks so different!! It sure does pay to be an MSNBC contributor. She looks wonderful (as does Joyce Vance). It looks like McQuade is no longer at U of Michigan and has written a book. I think Nicholle is having her back to discuss the book...maybe tomorrow???

I've always been a bit overly careful when clicking on an emoji, concerned that I'll hit the wrong one and give the wrong impression of my feelings/attitude.

Pasta with creamy pesto sauce, topped with grilled shrimp.

Hey...that was OTT fist-pumping. He was really outta control (as they say).

@shapeshifter I'd miss the hell out of ya if this place closes down! Also, a bunch of others here as well. Good grief...can't there be an online community that survives all the vissisitudes (hmm...is that still a useable word?) of today's miserable, challenging life where a bunch of similar souls can come together online and kvetch about life?

Re: the potential new emojis? I vote for the two "B's". Don't like that very angry face. When I'm ticked off about something, I use the flame emoji. I sure hope this site will continue as I've enjoyed reading everyone's opinions, input, & thoughts, on the sections I visit (well, that's not many but I like the ones in which I participate).

I also said cookie, altho' I thought I'd read (years ago) that cookie came from a German word for it. Just looked it up and its origin is Dutch (from the folks who originally settled NYC) for little cakes. Now I want a cookie!

At least this time around we won't be worrying about her very young age. I wonder if she'll bring a quad to her first competition, after her time off.
-
The only positive is at least he got rid of his sieg heil look. Yuck. Between Yogesh & this character, I don't know who's the worst.

@Yeah No Is Loehman's still in business? I remember going to the one in the Bronx (the one under the el) and being shocked when I walked into the dressing room. No individual sections, just one big, open room 😁. -
Why Grammar Matters: A Place To Discuss Matters Of Grammar
annzeepark914 replied to candall's topic in Everything Else
In my husband's home town, he heard people say, "assalete" instead of athlete. I think this is another example of immigrants from countries that do not pronounce "th" trying to use an English word. -
Yay! I was pulling for Luigi (or Kevin). I'm so glad he won. Brave DD's wagering (if I were the angel on his shoulder, I'd have advised him to be much more conservative 😁).
-
Can you imagine if Yogesh had lost? I think he's trying to improve his crappy image, but it ain't working. He's aware of the new style of the game's ending (group hugs) so he should've/could've been gracious enough to extend himself to also shake Nick's hand. It's interesting that Jake returned in better form (behavior? 🤗) but not this guy. Oh well. Next group!

Why Grammar Matters: A Place To Discuss Matters Of Grammar

It's hard to hear most times as it can sound like "have" is being used. I hate it, though...almost as much as I loathe hearing & reading, "try and" instead of "try to". This one is fingernails on a blackboard for me 😬. -
I just looked him up. This was the guy who had a strange little mustache & his hair was slicked down, parted on the side. Reminded folks of Hitler. I bet he has a new hairstyle & shaved that mustache. Can't wait to see him!
-
My little buddy Jakey was doing so well in Jeopardy...I got excited. Then, the Prince of Gloom took over. I can't wait for someone to beat him. I know I'm the only fan of Jake here. I was glad to see a much more mature Jake this time around. I still do what I call The Jake gesture whenever I guess or do something right/great 😁.

I missed last night (book club). I'd forgotten about the Episcopal minister but now remember that I disliked him. I don't remember him swaying...that was a Ray specialty. Wow! After all the badmouthing that Yogesh did about Jeopardy!, I can't believe he was invited back. I might make popcorn for this one 🍿 You're a kind person 😁 Wish we could sit in the same room to watch dear Yogesh.
