Women and children are at such risk in these IBLP homes. It makes me so angry that these people think they are these great Christians!

It's the changes that get to me. One day you can get through. The next day, you don't really want to be on that street. The next day it's iffy. And honestly, on the big street by our grocery store, we decided that the equipment drivers and the sign holders have all been really careless, which puts us in the position of not trusting the directions we're being given! I've seen equipment drivers speeding across and nearly hitting vehicles that were told to proceed. I don't know. Maybe I just don't trust anyone anymore!

Someone on Reddit posted that they hope JB gets to experience the IRS season of life as a result of Jill's book and I'm dying laughing!

My city is finally repairing a very long nearby street. I never realized how much I use that street, both for my walks and for when we go anywhere at all. It's really affecting my walks and my travels! I can't avoid crossing it to get almost anywhere and it's been all torn up for days, with heavy equipment and varying levels and loads of dust and dirt. I have book club today and I was going to walk there. Mr. BB offered to drive me. He knows I hate driving in construction areas. They've also got the street torn up by our grocery store. First world problems, I know! I'll be very happy when it's all done. BTW, it seems like they've really got a push on to finish it before winter. It seemed like they could have started such a big job sooner!

Oh duh! I got my Dillard kids mixed up. But it still didn't make it into the book, unless I'm remembering that wrong too!

I believe they decided to keep Sam's health private until they knew what they were dealing with. Fortunately his brain bleed corrected and he is developing normally. Didn't Jill also have her gall bladder out after delivering Sam? I don't think that made it into the book. Maybe they decided to be more circumspect about Jill's health too? Or they just decided it wasn't relevant to the story they were telling?

I think IBLP attracts weak men who need to feel powerful over women and children. They are not healthy minded people.

Oh dear, is Deanna saying that Amy is going to write a book? I'm not reading that one!

I just finished reading Jill's book. I finished in about 4-5 hours and really enjoyed it. I've always had a soft spot for Jill. I've been a people pleaser too. I think it's a well written, honest and open telling of Jill's unusual life. She loves her parents, especially her Mom. I think the most surprising thing in the book was that Michelle showed up late at night and delivered the contract from Mad Productions that Jill and Derick had asked for many times through their attorney. JB turned a deaf ear to their request and I'm left to wonder if Michelle decided on her own to deliver it and did so impulsively and against JB's wishes. That made me have a bit more respect for Michelle.

I think you don't have to be a member to see the optometrist, but you do have to be a member to purchase glasses.
-
I hope you find just what you want at an affordable price, @CalicoKitty. I did get my last glasses (and sunglasses) at Costco at a good price. They are very helpful there and I've liked the doctors there too. I'm like you - I can't look for glasses when my eyes are dilated. I become a total space case when my eyes are dilated. I had strabismus and eye surgery to correct it when I was a kid, so my eyes have been dilated a lot over the years. I usually bring my husband along for a second opinion when choosing frames.

I just finished a book about DV survivors. The story mentioned repeatedly about women wearing long sleeves and dark stockings (and make-up) to cover up bruises. I thought of Michelle. I mean, I know her dark stockings are probably support hose or an attempt to cover up varicose veins. But I thought how JB holds on to her in every pic to show his ownership. I do believe Gothard probably thinks the all powerful husband has the right to beat his wife and his children. I hope JB doesn't "encourage" Michelle through violence. But they believe in blanket training babies, so these are not gentle, loving people!

My bad! So you can get blended bifocals from places like GlassesUSA? I know my daughter and sil have bought multiple pairs at good prices from Warby Parker, but they're not in bifocals yet.
-
Oh no! I'm sorry that happened! I hope you can get them repaired/replaced asap. I always keep my old glasses and travel with them just in case I break my current ones. My bil once had his vacation ruined by breaking his glasses. Would a cheap pair of cheaters help in the meantime?

Condo living mild rant: So, this young guy occasionally lives next door. He's pretty friendly and has told us varying stories of his connection to the nice guy who lives next door and is the owner. They share a driveway/parking area with us and one other family. Though they are generally nice neighbors, they do tend to hog all of the parking as if it's their own personal lot. We don't need parking spaces, but they have actually made it difficult for us to get out of our garage at times. It's frustrating because they don't use their garage for parking, which makes things more complicated. Anyway his car hasn't been running for a week or so. It needs to be moved for sealcoating and he told my husband last night that he was going to try to get the date changed because he hadn't gotten around to getting it towed for repair. This made me mad because it's so selfish and will inconvenience the rest of us who planned to move our cars for the sealcoating today. Well, it rained all night and continues off and on, so I guess he got his wish. I'm usually pretty happy here, but this is one of my few complaints! That and the annual dues increases!

Carlin and Evan: But Mostly Carlin!

I would not be surprised to learn that Gil was also a cheater. I do know that he would justify it and make it Kelly's fault. It's never the fault of the man. -
I did too. I had no intention of buying Jill's book, figuring it would be as boring as Jinger's (which I didn't buy), but seeing the excerpt in People where she called Josh a pedophile to JB & Meech's faces, piqued my interest. So I ordered it!

She was definitely being passive/aggressive with this tidbit. Clearly T & H are about to announce their engagement and she's still trying to steal their thunder. She likely destroyed Renee's relationship by posting about the guy against his clearly stated wishes. Jill's obsession with SM is making more of her children unhappy. Stop sinning, Jill and MYOB!

I'm a little concerned that Jill and Derick are sitting across from one another, rather than side by side. I hope there's not trouble in paradise!

Lawson and Tiffany: Warbling His Way Into Her Heart
BetyBee replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in Bringing Up Bates
Lawson is such a throwback jerk. Tiffany could have done far better!
