Season 7: Speculation and Spoilers Discussion
Raachel2008 replied to Minneapple's topic in Game Of Thrones
Eh, I think young Ned was awful with a capital A. Not happening. Charlie is too famous now, and Travis is too fresh from Vikings. I'm betting on one of those young and talented and look alike British actors. I wonder, though, if the next time we see Lyanna, Aisling Franciosi's hair will be darker in order to "explain" better Jon/Kit's very dark hair. I love Vanessa Redgrave, and it would be lovely to see her on the show. I'm not keen on an epilogue, though. Most of the time they are not necessary and the rest of time they are just a really bad idea - Im looking at you J.K. Rowling. -
Season 7: Speculation and Spoilers Discussion
Raachel2008 replied to Minneapple's topic in Game Of Thrones
Nah, Cersei is not Sansa's. Sansa already had her big vengeance/death - Ramsay - and, if spoilers are correct, she will have her Littlefinger momment too. No way she is the valonqr. Personally, I think it should be Jamie or Tyrion, because the Lannisters are so fucked up and so self-destructive that they have to implode and not explode. But I doubt D&D will resist the urge to have Arya killing another name in her list, which is something the media is crazy about. Either way, Tyrion/Jamie or Arya, it won't be Sansa. Som fucker at work updated his asshole status by sharing all the major spoilers, and all I can say is that we shouldn't miss Wall!Sex! because it is not everyday that you see a new trope coming to life. -
What I think will happen not necessarily what I want to happen. Jon Snow: Alive. Sansa Stark: Alive, but I cannot see D&D letting the two Stark sisters live, so... Arya Stark: Alive. Bran Stark: Alive in some mystical capacity. Ghost: Dead after saving Jon during the battle with the WW. Nymeria: Alive if Arya lives. Cersei Lannister: Dead. Jaime Lannister: Dead after a redemption arc fighting the WW. Tyrion Lannister: Alive. Daenerys Targaryen: Alive. Missandie: Alive, but I'm not sure. Grey Worm: Dead. Drogon: Dead. Viserion (gold): Dead. Rhaegal (green): Dead. Yara Greyjoy: Alive. Theon Greyjoy: Dead. Euron Greyjoy: Dead. Brienne of Tarth: Alive. Podrick Payne: Alive. Davos Seaworh: Alive - praying tons here. Melisandre: Dead. Tormund Gigantsbane: Dead. Sandor Clegane: Dead. Thoros of Myr: Dead. Samwell Tarly: Alive. Gilly: Alive. Baby Sam: Alive. Varys: Alive. Petyr Baelish: Dead. Qyburn: Dead. Ellaria Sand: Dead. Obara Sand: Dead. Tyene Sand: Dead. Nymeria Sand: Dead. Olenna Tyrell: Dead. Meera Reed: Alive. Robin Arryn: Dead. Edmund Tully: Dead. Dolorous Edd: Dead. Bronn: Alive. Jorah Mormont: Dead. Daario Naharis: If he is ever mentioned again, alive. Gendry: Dead. Hot Pie: Dead. The white walkers: Dead for now. The wall: Destroyed. The iron throne: Still there, but it is much less important than before.

S01.E10: Baka, Bile, and Baseball Bats
Raachel2008 replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Santa Clarita Diet [V]
Liked the series and will watch season 2. I'm disappointed we didn't get *one* single answer; this is the kind of thing that drives me nuts: your audience stuck with you for 10 episodes, just throw a bone. We don't know more now than we did in the beggining, sigh. TO and DB were awesome together, and I really enjoyed Sheila and Joel. The final two episodes were a little heavy with all the "insert couple talk" in the between the actions, but that is okay. The parallels of zombiedom being like a fatal disease - when Sheila wanted to enjoy the time she had with Abby, asking if Joel felt guilty or angry - were really good. The gore was well done, the supporting characters are superb - I could watch them all day - and the actors playing Eric and Abby are great finds. Loved the dark humor and over the top everything. Also, the actor playing Eric needs to be in Brooklyn Nine-Nine playing Gina's young brother or lost child, because Skyler Gisondo and Chelsea Peretti DO look alike. Like, they really do. -
I think it was ok. I like Jennifer Beals and Clive Staden, so I would watch it anyway. I don't care if Mills already has a set of skills, he was in Army, was in the war, worked with DEA, so he is supposed to have skills, right? I've watched only the first Taken movie, and I don't come with any preconceived ideas about the show. I don't miss Liam Neeson either. We'll see if the show lasts enough.

I haven't watched the show in ages, but I was sucked into Alex plot, and, as always, what a failure. I don't know why I still try, really. Not that I was expecting Alex to go to jail, he is a main character and all and Meredith needs a sidekick, blah blah. But to have DeLucca drop the charges, which HE CANNOT DO IN A CRIMINAL CASE, is ridiculous. The whole thing is pathetic, and any but what really really really annoys me is the message that what he did can and should be erased, just like that. That somehow, Alex doesn't deserve to be punished. Alex beat DeLucca into a pulp. He almost killed the guy. I LOVE Alex, but come on. He knew what he was doing. Also, Jo said something like “You didn’t put him in prison, I'm the one who did". NO, Jo, you didn't do anything. A grown-up man in his middle 30's beat another man into a pulp. He put himself in prison. Not you. Alex's the guilty one here. Not you. Not DeLucca. Ugh.

Santa Clarita Diet in the Media
Raachel2008 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Santa Clarita Diet [V]
I'm going to binge watch this show like there is no tomorrow. -
I think Angus is a mix of Carter and Mark, that is for sure. I can see some of Benton in Campbell and Mama and Leanne both being a mix of several characters, but Ethan is no Doug in the strict sense- but then I don't think they are trying for Code Black to be ER. First, Code Black don't do these characters' personal lives the way ER did. Sure, all them have their problems, but who they are doesn't shape the doctors they are the way ER did with its characters, if it makes any sense. In the episode with the inmates, Leanne said something along the lines "it doesn't matter if he is a killer, you treat him live everybody else, you do your best, this is the discipline, this is the job". I think that sums Code Black: the show is about that job and that discipline, while ER had dozens of more layers - some of them very poor handled as some of us can tell. Second, ER was a much darker show. Things when south and they stayed there. People waited for treatment and died, kids were hurt and nobody sugarcoated how hard their lives would be, folks didn't have money for medicine, people survived but didn't get the happy ending. More often than not, Code Black's final five minutes reminds me of shows like Touched by an Angel, where the whole episode is just a path to those final minutes where the viewer is hit on the face with an up lifting message/lesson and everything turns out okay. About the episode itself, I'm sure those firefighters have seen more than enough to know that guy's arm was gone, how come Ethan and Mario or anyone else didn't have a saw up there already? It is the kind of lazy writing that drives me nuts. I think this whole plot was predictible, from Mario - who by now should know better - being surprised that they would have to amputate the guy's arm to Mario falling and Ethan saving him. I don't mind Ethan at all, I think he adds something to the show, he is competent and Rob Lowe is suprisingly good in the role, but Ethan trying to get Mario up when there was not one but three (stronger than him and taller than him) firefighters right there was ridiculous. Mario is a brat. How Guthrie can practice again? He is a walking malpractice lawsuit. First thing that goes wrong with one of this patients and the hospital's lawywer will have a hard time in court proving his decisions/actions were not affected in any shape or form by a) his Parkinson, b) the meds he used in the past and is using now, c) the "experimental" procedure he did. No word on Malaya, and I wonder if and when she comes back we'll see Guthrie apologizing to her - actually I think he owes an apology to anyone who worked with him in the past months.
-
I don't know about communicating by phone, but there are several apps out there especifically for autistic children, and a few studies on how iPads are being very helpful. And let's not forget thar they are a county hospital. No way Leanne doesn't know how a budget works or how they have to make every single dolllar count. That goodbye trip means diverting money that is needed everywhere so a guy - who by the way was in touch with his family by phone for several hours- could give his son a last hug. It was ridiculous. They are always very conscious and alert, aren't they? I think that in some cases, they could at least try to come up with excuses, or I dunno, put the burnt guy who back melted into his seat in some sort of bubble.

Was that Ever Carradine, from Once & Again, playing Mario's late daddy's girlfriend? I feel horrible for saying this, but she has aged really bad.
-
I've always loved Jennifer Esposito, but she is not working here. She just doesn't gel with the others, and the sooner they let her go, the better. Quinn is bland and adds nothing to the show. Suprisingly, Wilmer Valderrama works really well as Torres, which I wouldn't have expected in a million years, because, well, he is Wilmer Valderrama. He is not a great actor, but, he can do subtle humor and is more than decent at the more serious stuff. All this time and I every time I look at Bishop I still cannot buy her as a NCIS agent. Girl just screams college freshman with a gun doing a stunt at a CW show. However, I appreciate that this episode asided, it is not all about her like it was a loooot of times with Ziva - and don't even get me started how the Ziva/Tony will-they-won't-they thing hijacked the show. What is missing this season is a good long arc with some juicy drama where Gibbs is the center, as it should be. Just my 2 cents.

Kind of Eli Roth congratulating himself about Hostel being great filmmaking. Except not. Torture porn is cheap writing, not matter how you look at it. Kirkman can use the good ol' argument about the show following the comics, but that has not always been the case, has it? Also, he is in for the backlash of his life if he does follow the whole Negan arc, but I don't think other people at AMC or wherever will look at it and say sure. But honestly, at this point I don't care because I'm out. Not in the "I shall never watch a single scene again ever" sense, but I need a good break. I don't mind the violence, and yes I've read the comics. But it is one thing to see Negan smashing Glenn's head in a small black and white piece of paper for ten seconds, and a whole different entity to watch Steve Yeun gurgle and have his eye popping out in full color HD int he context of 44 minutes of pure sadism , which is something I don't think Kirkman really understands at all, but whatever. Someone upthread mentioned how people never kill the big baddie, and this is something I don't get either. You would imagine people being opressed/tortured by somene like Negan would use the first chance to kill him. Can't be that hard in that situation, honestly. Andrew Lincoln is a terrific actor and deserves an Emmy/SAG nod. Those Saturn and People Choice awards don't do justice to his talent.

“They knew it was a lie. But they did not have to go public,” Riera said. “They thought this would be forgotten. They did not think it would have a more serious consequence.” - So, it has been proved, stupidity IS contagious. -
And Bolt probably won't be there, so he will get his gold.

Who says it was about the money? I'm more inclined to think that it was about leaving the girlfriend at the hotel, partying with the others, and arriving at the Olympic Village very late. -

Rio Scandals: Is It Ready, Will The Place Kill You & More!
Raachel2008 replied to Kromm's topic in 2016 Olympics
No she will not, she will just spin it. I can already tell how the PR damage control is going to make this one work: the police officer was out of his uniform (not that all the police officers wear uniforms), so they will say they thought he was someone posing as a police officer, language barrier, foreign country, city with a history of violence, blah blah blah. I can even see the "boys will be boys" crap throwing around, since we are already seeing the "he is only 32" excuse. Local reports say it was a police officer. Ok, but they still represent US when abroad. Same for anyone else, IMO. -

Dumb, dumb, dumb, DUMB. From Google translate (160 reais = 50 bucks) http://veja.abril.com.br/esporte/a-farsa-dos-baderneiros-campeoes/ The Civil Police of Rio have uncovered the alleged assault suffered by four American swimmers during a fake blitz at dawn on Sunday, including 12-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte. For the Special Police Team to Support Tourism (Deat), the plot revealed by the champion is false. In fact, the group invented the story to covering up a dawn of drunkenness and riot carried out in a gas station in Barra da Tijuca, the way the Olympic Village. Lochte and teammates Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and James Feigen left a party in the House of France, Equestrian, the Lagoa, at 5:46 a.m.. From there they took a taxi and were causing turmoil in the car. When they reached the Barra da Tijuca, they asked the driver to pull over at a gas station at the entrance of Ocean Garden. And there began to star vandalism scenes. At the back of the establishment, swimmers came to pee his pants and ended up breaking an advertising board. A post client, who is a police officer, challenged the group. He said he would call the police. The call to 190 was made, but it took too long and the group threatened to run away. Armed, this customer would have had to stop. Three threw themselves to the ground, less Lochte. Then one of the athletes offered money to compensate the damage of the broken plate. The staff at first did not accept, and insisted that it would be best to wait for the arrival of the PM. As the car did not come, kindly gave 160 real by the board repair and left in a taxi. The curious thing is that the employees themselves the post did not realize at first that the riot which took place in the early morning would be related to the alleged assault revealed by Lochte's mother and that made the pages of the world. "Only on Tuesday we saw that those rioters shot at post here were the same history of assault. He did not have any assault. They invented it because they are ashamed of what they did, "said an official at the SEE site. When they left the station, the athletes returned to the Olympic Village and arrived in access control at exactly 6:56 a.m.. Lochte appears playing and athletes with their mobile phones and wallets, which obviously have weakened the assault thesis. The taxi driver who led the group is testifying right now. Lochte, who returned to the United States in the last 15 days, and Feigen, shall be indicated by false crime reporting in the survey conducted by the delegate Alexandre Braga, the Deat. Feigen, incidentally, did check out the Olympic Village, but follows in Rio de Janeiro in place yet unknown. The court ruled that he did not get out of Brazil. Coner and Bentz tried to board yesterday back home, but were removed from the plane by court order. -
Rio Scandals: Is It Ready, Will The Place Kill You & More!
Raachel2008 replied to Kromm's topic in 2016 Olympics
The system is different. The judge gathered the facts, decided they had to explain themselves better, issued a general warrant and that was it. Of course the board control knew he was gone, but it isn't the MO for the judge to know the whereabouts of those named in the warrant. That is the police's job and they knew where they were, thus taking the two swimmers out of the plane. Not to the dimiss the violence, but the guy was not an Olympian, but a New Zealander who has been living in Rio for over a year, training jiu-jitsu and has a journalist girlfriend who reported the story. I'm not sure why people can't believe Lochte and the others would be lying. Sure, stupid, but not impossible. I don't get why it is wrong for Rio's police to try to clear something they believe is a false report. Reverse the countries and I don't think people would be pissed off if American cops were trying to clear what they believe is a false report by, say, Brazilian athletes. Typing from my cell, so sorry for the typos.- 911 replies

Rio Scandals: Is It Ready, Will The Place Kill You & More!
Raachel2008 replied to Kromm's topic in 2016 Olympics
Maybe they weren't supposed to arrive at the Olympic Village that late or maybe Lotche was worried about his Playmate girlfriend who stayed in the hotel with his parents. Or maybe there were women/drugs involved and they needed a cover, and saying they were robbed at gunpoint in a city where this kind of crime is not unusual would be a good cover up. I can see why the local police is suspicious, though, because anyway you look at it, there are a few questions that need answers: if they were told to lie on the ground, why their clothes are so clean? Why the robbers would take wallets but let their watches and cellphones? Why the time gap? Why Bentz has his wallet? Where is the cab driver? Let's see what happens. Lochte is far from being the brightest, but lying about that would be stupid even for him, and I refuse to think that his teammates are dumber than him.
