  1. I'm kind of with you on this. I wonder if Jonathan will end up being the new "plucky cub reporter" that Lois and Chrissy were looking for in ep 1.
  2. I've seen a lot of people mention vespas, but I can't believe none of us thought to make a Mos Vespa joke.
  3. I wonder if James Gunn was a secret BrainDead fan?
  4. I wonder if having Anderson turn out to be a bad replacement will lead to Lane returning to head DOD as a choice of lesser evils by season's end. During the earthquake scene, I shuddered that the writers (presumably largely? Californian) had Clark's family shelter in a doorframe. Then I told myself that a) it is a wood frame house and b) that probably is how people from presumably largely-earthquake-free Smallville might respond.
  5. The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 3 - The Abercrombie and Fitch Gang Wow- I thought the guy sounded (and looked vaguely) familiar, but I couldn't place him. Stephen Root looks a lot different than the last time I saw him.
  6. Wow- Terry sure took a right turn back to manipulative villainy. I still like his character this season, but I'm not a big fan of this abrupt shift. Some of the storylines still felt like they fell victim to some pacing issues- the bullying storyline, Tori and Sam. I imagine they just want those to continue playing out into S5, but it really does feel like they drag these things out too long sometimes. Overall, a really strong season. Probably one of the strongest so far, and that's saying a lot.
  7. Live thoughts: Me: There's only three dojos left in the Valley now? What happened to all the others from prior seasons/years? Weird. 5 minutes later... No, there's a whole bunch of other people and dojos listed. They just only introduced these three for some reason. Mmkay.
  8. Stinkray continues to suck. The only remorse I feel here is for Terry Silver, who has clearly been drive back into the throes of addiction due to his sense of obligation to the remorseless Kreese.
  9. Oh, FFS, I thought we'd seen the last of the useless Stingray character. #hemustknowwherethebodiesareburied #blackmail Johnny's Ex: "This guy Silver said he's paying for the limo and everything else. Red Flag@" Me: Okay, sure, but Kreese is the real bad guy. I'm not sure Silver 2.0 is really that bad. You all need to focus here, peeps. Me.: Pac-Man Tux is actually so f'ing cool. I wish they'd had those for my grad dance. It wouldn't have been cool in the 90s, but nowadays, if I'd worn that, I'd look like a g-d visionary.
  10. Watching in progress (post liable to be edited): Terry Silver: "Even Sensei Kreese has a weakness." John Kreese (thinking): Really... Johnny: "Your mom and I wanted to take you somewhere nice to tell you we're doin' it; like Marie Callendar's or Red Lobster. Maybe even an Olive Garden." Me: Growing up in the Midwest, I used to think Red Lobster was like the A-list of restaurants. Not sure I'd feel the same here in Cali though? Eagle Fang New Girl: "Cynthia Rothrock is a badass!" Johnny: "Damn right she is! Brownnosers get extra points!" Johnny: "No blow is too low for Cobra Kai. We have to be ready for them!" Me: I grew up in the 80s, when we thought it was okay to go for the nut kick to take down our enemies before we learned the science that it could be bad long-term. I am not a fan. Kenny: "Robbie doesn't have a weakness!" Terry: "His weakness is your well-being. Use it." Kenny drops Robbie. Me: Still can't hate on Terry. His methods are a bit more aggressive than I'd like (and I still think Daniel has his head up has ass too much, even though I generally agree with his more pacificist approach) but I can't disagree with his overall sense of student-first teaching vs. Kreese's "win at all costs" teaching. On the other hand: Kreese: Can't I get any good help around here? Gonna have to do something about Terry now. Maybe get him hooked on dope again? Daniel: "I was hoping to protect you from this bully, Anthony..." sigh Anthony: "It's just that...." Daniel: "What?" Anthony: "Nothing, dad." I'm the bully. Daniel: "Come on, son, you can tell me anything." Me. Tell him, you sonuvabitch. You're the f'ing bully. He'll be an asshole until next episode, but he'll forgive you. Anthony: "Nah. I'll take care of it." Kreese: "Don't try and tell these kids I have a weakness, because I know where the bodies are buried and I'll get you back on the dope or something worse, Terry" Terry: "Mmmmkay.,..." Mother f'er. I love this show, and how they can massage the nuances of interpersonal relationships in ways that the original movies weren't able to showcase. I think this incarnation of Terry Silver is pretty decent, at the admittant exception of the one-sided villainy of Kreese (although they sort of edge toward a humanization of him once in a while). But I hate that they are basically going to villainize Silver again because they need to keep a BWAHAHAHAHAAAIMEVILLLL character(s) in the show for drama's sake. (But I'm so glad they dropped the Stingray character)
  11. Okay, Terry Silver is kind of an (unnecessary) ass here towards Daniel. I still like the way they've shown his character overall, though, so I'm chalking this up to the general asshattery all of the main characters show to people they've had conflicts with in the past. ETA: Agree with the anti-Sam posts. Did she not actually learn the lesson that Aisha was trying to teach her (not to mention dad and mom)? And as much as I appreciated the Aisha scene: a) could she not have more directly addressed the Tori situation (considering they were bffs with Cobra Kai for a few months)? and b) couldn't they have brought her back to actually complete the bullying storyline they began in S1 with her instead of using the new "Kenny" kid as a stand-in?
  12. I'm really enjoying the more nuanced Terry Silver in S4 (as compared to psycho KK3). As much as they still deal with past insecurities and grudges, Terry, Daniel, and Johnny at least have matured and shown they are open to growing and learning. It's Kreese that seems forever stuck in the past and unwilling to change, which is the real tragedy of this story.
  13. Speaking of the pipeline- and I know this goes back a couple episodes now- but am I the only one wondering what Team Flash did with all those metas they had locked up when that (federal?) agency came and put STAR Labs under lockdown after Thawne nearly caused a reactor leak there? (Probably moot now that it's all been Reverse-Reverse-Flash Pointed).
  14. Maybe she pulled a Flashpoint of her own.
  15. They really need to let Thawne go at this point. The writers have let him become such a one-dimensional, scene-chewing meh. After all this time, they can't give him a better reason for hating Barry beyond "you stole my thunder!" And then, when he is desperately pleading for his life, he throws shade at one of the people whose help he needs because that seems like a good plan? Season 1 Thawne was so much more nuanced and TC played him much better. I think Matt Letscher's Thawne was better than TC has developed the character post-S1, and hope they bring him back for the next (inevitable?) Thawne outing rather than TC. Or maybe they can do Thawne vs. Thawne the ultimate throwdown.
  16. Just finished watching Psych 3 (I'd forgotten it was coming out and only happened to be reminded b/c of a Facebook ad. Algorithms did something good for once!) I enjoyed the finale and the last two movies, but this was the best Psych has been for a long time. They really nailed the characters, the humor, and best of all remembered it works the best when the show is an ensemble, like the first few seasons of the show. Everyone had a chance to shine and contribute (although I feel that Chief Vick's storyline was missing an ending). Timothy Omundson is doing amazing in his recovery; I love that guy. Shawn and Gus (JRR and DH) were on fire. Loved it.
  17. LOL - Agreed. It is beginning to sound like a pharmaceutical commercial. "Please consult with the Producers if you have any of the following: Shot in the Dark; Fake Immunity Idol. Do not play your idol if you are suffering from irritable bowel syndrome. Do not attempt to play any of the props in the Tribal Council: they are not game pieces."
  18. So many great comments here this week. My faves: 😄 Heehee, so true. She's like a Pixar character. Yeah- this was a great moment, but so, soooo stupid of Barry. "And I've got a tray of ice cubes just waiting to throw at Killer Frost if she shows her face around here!" Two demerits for you for using the "L" word. 😄
  19. Is this show being written by a bunch of Twitch streamers now? I swear you could make a drinking game out of how many times per episode someone says "level up." 😕🍺🥴
  20. IMO the biggest problem with this live-action remake is that they can't seem to decide what it is. From the costuming, to the sometimes over-the-top character reprisals (Vicious, Ed), they seem to want to trade in on the nostalgia of the original. Which is fine, but commit to it. Re-do the episodes as they were, or at least as near as possible given the (fairly obvious) cost-cutting involved (ie, remove most space sequences, most swordfish and red tail sequences, etc.). Don't add new and extraneous characters, characterizations, etc. However, if you are looking for something new, building off the premise of the original, then commit to that. Let the characters live in the world they are inhabiting: let them wear different clothes, instead of acting like cosplayers and wearing the same thing week to week (honestly, the conceit of a "costume" for characters is a necessary element in cartoons and comics, because you don't have actual living, breathing people you can distinguish from panel to panel, but it has little place in a live-action remake that doesn't actually involve people wearing costumes/uniforms, ie, superheroes). Let these seem like real people: ex. Ed could easily have been a girl with short hair rather than this Bozo-the-Clown fright wig they have her in. Put some deliberate thought into the world-building and make the sets believable and purposeful; don't just shoot things with a yellow filter and call it "space outpost." Let the storylines play out and be true to the characters you're writing. Ex. Jet's sense of betrayal by Spike could have played off of his recent revelations about his old partner without needing the addition of his daughter. Firefly was able to make a living, breathing world 20 years ago, with probably a smaller (or at least similar) budget and two decades old technology. Surely the team working on this adaptation could have accomplished at least as much. This was a better series than I was expecting, and it had some good moments with its cast, but overall the pacing, the staging, and the tempo really could have been better. I hope they do a better job with a season 2, if they get it.
  21. Yeah- that was really distracting. It looked like she had on some really odd colored contacts, too? When she was talking to Kara, I swear she was channeling David Bowie. I would have bet that they were going to have Nyxly decide her plans were too sinister and repent of her ways, and maybe hook up with Mitch, so color me surprised that she got sucked back into the Phantom Zone. She's going to be really pissed if she ever gets back out (also: why would the phantoms choose to go back there? Because they needed the second hour for wrap up, I guess?) Pretty mawkish and insipid finale, but then that's really been the show all along. I was definitely touched by some of the sentiment and there were some nice moments of bringing things full circle, but I'm left oddly empty at the end.
  22. This was my understanding as well, plus I think they decided if they do it this way, they don't have to worry about being caught traveling around the country as the Bullet Blondes; Gary can travel incognito to New York, open the doorway there, and then they will be able to come back into the real world.
  23. I feel like Jade/Jenny was kind of a pointless introduction this season, especially if she's not coming back for S3 (don't know if she is or not). Agree with the comment about all the heroes attacking one at a time; it's such a terrible trope, especially in television/movies. I hope that they do start to learn to work as a team. Overall enjoyed it, and the season as a whole. Really glad Mr. Shade is sticking around; he is such a wonderful character (although he seemed uncharacteristically more gleeful in this episode than previously). The Crocks coming back seemed kind of pointless, with them showing up after Eclipso was already down, and I'm not sure how they can justify sticking around when they were not only imprisoned, but are now escaped felons, but we'll see. Cameron definitely seems underutilized and pointless right now; I can't see how/why the character we have seen would decide to become evil just because Grams, Gramps, and Dead Dad were, but I suspect they'll make him a bad guy anyway. Starman finally makes his way to Blue Valley after taking the entire season roaming around looking for Pat Dugan, but I didn't hate the way he showed up. I like Cindy a lot, but I'm skeptical how her joining the JSA and turning a new leaf will turn out. The cast is definitely getting bloated, but I still enjoy this show a lot. It is one of the better written and performed DC shows, and one of the best looking. The sets, the scenery, and cinematography are top notch (the fight choreography is hit or miss).
