The $100,000 Pyramid - General Discussion
Violet Penner replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The $100,000 Pyramid
Deion was the worst. Did he know this was not charades? And he seemed to do some kind of "dealing cards" mime for half his clues. My DVR cut off halfway through the winner's circle with Rosie. Did they win? -
I didn't like the peer pressure to pick David AG for the final match. I would want to pick a celebrity I matched a lot with so it would increase the chances we would match on the final when there's the most money at stake. Whether he did it on purpose to be goofy or not, he gave some pretty "out there" answers (I still don't get posting horns on FB). I was glad in this instance that they "cheated" and had other celebrities help him get the right answer for piano.

The $100,000 Pyramid - General Discussion

They seem pretty lenient on some of the winners circle clues. Accepting "parties" for political parties, "Spanish" for Spanish words, etc. I know there were others, but it seems like if you say one word, they'll give you credit. Marvette gave some good clues in the first winners circle. I thought it was unfair to buzz sssss for soda. What if he was going to say Sprite? Things you cheat on: your exams, your taxes, your spouse, your diet. -

Unless the rules are explained much more clearly to the contestants ahead of time (than they are to the audience), I think there are definitely times I would freeze wondering if something was an illegal clue. Would "pink frosted with sprinkles" be an acceptable clue? -
I thought the Peter Dinklage question was mean. For Nurse Jackie, I thought thermometer.

Some of the players have glommed on to the "opposites" method of getting to the answer better than others. I remember someone was stuck on "odds" (for the horse racing one) and I was like "Not EVENS, but ____" Same for Ladies/Gentlemen. Mario was good. I didn't think Daymond was terrible - he had a few perfect rounds I think. But Barbara was awful. I felt bad for the credit card clue in the winner's circle - seemed like they were setting the person up to say Mastercard and getting buzzed. Needed to be very careful with that one. -
Cheryl seemed a little drunker this episode? I thought of 68 grains of rice for the model one - was trying to think of small food. Doesn't seem to be one obvious answer for this one. For the McDonald's question, I toyed with "Happy Meal" before deciding on Big Mac. The answer of hamburgers was not "on point." Sometimes I feel really stupid when an obvious answer like Old Spice just doesn't enter my brain. I'm sure the contestants might get a little flustered under the time pressure. At least there were no real "hair" answers this week.

How many times in this series has Rachel told someone she's a lawyer? SHE IS NOT A LAWYER.
-
By and large, I enjoyed Leslie - I think she would be perfect if dialed back maybe 5-7%. But she took it seriously, and was funny. I just don't want any one (or two) people to start detracting from the game with the theatrics. (I also follow her on twitter and felt terrible for what she's going through there.) I enjoy Titus on Match Game more than I do on Kimmy. The only other guy on the panel that's made me laugh or smile was Pete Wentz (go figure). I don't get why everyone needs to see each other's answers - wait 2 minutes and you'll find out! Slows down game time and isn't funny. I enjoyed that the questions this episode included some "regular, PG" ones.

The $100,000 Pyramid - General Discussion

Yeah, I was surprised about feet/foot too. I was also worried they would buzz things you "flip" and "flap"jacks for some reason. I could tell the contestants were trying to be really careful not to misspeak and get buzzed. Is it wrong that for "things you flip" the first thing that came to mind was "the bird! Your middle finger!"? I liked that Bellamy and Weird Al did seem to care very much but were not obnoxious. -

I was wondering the same thing. Especially in the first round, he seemed to be staring off into space. Look at your partner!! -
The case of the week seems to have been pulled from the real life crime that was made into a GREAT documentary series called "The Staircase." Available on YouTube and recommended for anyone who enjoyed Serial season 1 and Making a Murder. Some facts have been changed, but others were in the real thing. Episode one here:

I tried watching a recent episode of Celebrity Family Feud and turned it off because of all the risque/stupidly worded answers. I hope this isn't all smut all the time, because it seems like pandering to the lowest common denominator and takes away from the (theoretical) cleverness. Some of the rounds seemed to be really lopsided in terms of difficulty - I do remember that being the case a little on the original show, but maybe not quite as bad as the hickey round. And the "bunch of Baldwins" question seemed very difficult. Alec seemed like he was doing an SNL character voice. Strange, but I didn't hate it. Loved JB Smoove on Curb Your Enthusiasm, but he might get old quickly with the schtick here?

Anthony Anderson was a terrible player, but I admit, I was laughing at how bad he was. Just soo bad. Reminded me of when Joey was on Pyramid on Friends. I can't remember the category, but when the contestant was miming "kiss" and he guessed "beaver!!" ... Just wtf? I will always miss Dick Clark, but Strahan wasn't terrible. -
S02.E20: Michael Shannon vs. Rachel Bloom
Violet Penner replied to The Crazed Spruce's topic in Lip Sync Battle [V]
I thought Rachel had it locked going in, but I was very impressed with Michael's performance! His first song was good, but short, and degree of difficulty on REM was through he roof. Also shout out for LL's dumbfounded faces. He cracks me up. -
S02.E07: Gabriel Iglesias vs. Randy Couture
Violet Penner replied to The Crazed Spruce's topic in Lip Sync Battle [V]
This was pretty terrible. I admit I gave up halfway through Randy's second song, but he didn't appear to be lip syncing AT ALL. No attempt whatsoever to move his mouth. Too focused on choreography? Stage fright? What the heck? -
Why is Jane so insistent that the "driver" ask "where ya goin?" each time? Who cares? We get the point.

S02.E01: Channing Tatum vs. Jenna Dewan Tatum
Violet Penner replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Lip Sync Battle [V]
I do enjoy watching this show as it usually makes me smile. However. I feel like this show is becoming less about actual lip syncing and more about choreography, fancy outfits, backup dancers, and how dirty you can dance. I kind of appreciate more "straight" lip syncing talent that you see more on the Fallon version vs all this extra fluff that can obscure the actual lip syncing part. -
I love Ina generally, and will continue to watch her shows, but one of my least favorite things she does is act so surprised when someone she's cooking with tells her something she MUST already know. She acts like it's a novel idea she's never heard of. Cinnamon raisin french toast was not a revelation to her, please.

I really have no good explanation as to why I still watch this show, other than curious disgust? But I really can't explain why I chose to watch the show after a very stressful day at work. Oh my god, so much yelling. When they were in the "bomb" room trying to escape, it was just too much. So, so, so much awful.

The Ellen Degeneres Show - General Discussion
Violet Penner replied to cooksdelight's topic in The Ellen Degeneres Show
Yeah, that didn't strike me as a "joke" (if it was, she should have said something at the end "just so you know guys, we didn't really prank that student, she was a plant, etc.") If I'm Ellen, I write a personal check for $10,000 to this poor girl. She's great at giving away other people's money (as was Oprah) and both of them can afford to give away some of their own money as well (I'm sure they do, but here Ellen should make it right however she can). Unless they found out the girl was somehow a fraud/scam??? Why else would they not give her the money? So confusing! -
S04.E07: Accident Waiting To Happen
Violet Penner replied to radishcake's topic in Project Greenlight [V]
Did the crash happen the way it was intended to happen by stunt coordinator person? Or did something go wrong to cause the little blip of an accident? Stunt coordinator guy said there's be a big crash, lots of property damage. I couldn't tell if it went as stunt coordinator planned or not. -
Worst Cooks In America: Celebrity Edition
Violet Penner replied to Kromm's topic in Worst Cooks In America [V]
Maybe it was the lighting, but did Barry's hair look really different in the talking heads? Looked way darker to me. I laughed out loud at Ann's comment that Barry is "so weird." I never watched anything Jersey Shore related, but I confess I kinda like Jwow a little. Rachael and Ann whispering to each other was nice. Seems like they like/tolerate each other fairly well. Ellen is annoying and I'm tired of her. Wish she had gone. -
I have issues with the show, but I keep watching. I admit I really liked the Phil/Lily scenes.
