  1. Is the kid really mentally ill. That's fine if it's the case; otherwise, I'm finding really hard to believe someone acts like that. Of course Karen is going to hold it against him. Everything Hank does outside of her is wrong despite him consistently for 2 decades treating her like she shits strawberry ice cream. I'm just playing out the string for the final season, really. I'm hoping something more interesting develops, but so far it's been flat. I think the thing for me is that there's been zero growth for Karen in seven seasons. Hank at least connects with Becca pretty well, actually has writing talent. He doesn't take himself too seriously, which can sometimes result in some trying situations, but he is serious about Karen. I'm having a little hard time thinking he had a child unknowingly. I mean, if the show is implying he didn't bother with condoms. Given how sexually active he seems to be, that he'd take precautions. Though, that's not 100% I know. I actually hope he finally washes his hands of Karen.
  2. Just to clarify, there is substantial research and body of literature into human emotions and the role of emotions in the perception of risk, how people make decisions about 'risky technologies.' I suppose the 'margin of error' is a legit point, but there's also tons of work on that as well. I really wish science journals were more accessible to everyone because I think just having them out there would be a huge help.
  3. It seems like ISIS will be back in business, but for the CIA this time. I think TPTBs were yanking the chain a little when Archer zoned out. I thought for a second the entire season was going to be a dream sequence. I'm glad it's not. I don't like reset buttons.
  4. I'd like to take full credit for this, since I posted that I think it could be a movie franchise in the other thread just prior to the announcement. From what I learned, this takes place after the comic series (not comic ha ha, comic book). The story line from what I read seemed pretty interesting and shook up the UT landscape (so to speak).
  5. It's less mess and easier logistics for Ford. It's why Tessio was supposed to kill Michael Corleone. It's a old tactic. Have someone on the inside. Ford's goons don't have to track down Zane and then get the man and firepower to storm the office, sister's house, wherever. Ford said to Dylan, "you're close to him a lot. You do it." Plus, they both know Ford is right. It makes Ford look reasonable as well. "I won't retaliate and this can all stop." It's not like the sheriff is going to push *too* much into it. Dylan has been fairly sensible so far, so I'm leaning toward him somehow getting Zane arrested instead of outright killing him. As much as Boss Clare gave the order, I think she's going to resent Dylan if he really does it.
  6. I think I've watched the series about 5 maybe 6 times. When it was airing every night on SciFi M-Th I would leave it on when preparing dinner etc. I have yet to see a show, overall, story-wise that still holds up as well as this 2 decades on. Just yesterday, the news was talking about the latest payload to go up to the space station and they'll be growing their own food now. I can't help but think of Sinclair's monologue to the news anchor about why we have to go into space. With the Boston Marathon tomorrow, I was thinking about how Sheridan had to deal with the guy who was bombing on the station and how they talked about terrorism. Even more relevant in our world now than it was then. Just off the top of my head, thinking about how we're worried about the NSA spying on us and collecting all this data: there's the psy-corps.
  7. Would uneducated slaves know the earth was round though? And, it's not like they didn't believe DaVinci, as soon as he explained it, they were like, oh, ok. Really, this is 2014, and we've got people in this country, arguably the most advanced in human history, that don't believe in evolution.
  8. I noticed this right off the bat, particularly because I watched the Cloneversation and Patton Oswald made that point about the Sarah-as-Allison at the party in S1. That was quite an action-packed high pace episode of television. If S2 is going to be like this, I'm going to be white knuckling in my chair Saturday nights this spring. For some reason, I really like Art and I think he's going to bite it.
  9. I don't think Norman killed Miss Watson, but even if he did, he's going to get away with it because this evidence is inadmissible. Not that this show is a crime drama, but taking the DNA samples seemed so egregious that it seems to me TPTB intended us to note this.
  10. I usually don't like shows like this, but I did enjoy it. As for WW being like that, that's really how he is, even on his youtube with his wife. "I'm Wil Wheaton, from the internet." ha. Plus, he totally killed it with, don't fuck this up, please. At least, as a host, he's a guy who gets sci-fi *and* fandom. PO probably would have been a better host, but he might have only been available for that short appearance. I really laughed at him being like, 'holy fuck, how the hell do you play the clone playing the clone?' I liked the questions too because they were questions I would have asked. I'm just a guy and by definition oblivious, and I don't know anyone irl who watches OB. I knew there was a big female fanbase, but I didn't realize the impact, and that's great. I'm glad it was brought up on the show.
  11. I heard elsewhere that this was the last season, thankfully. I don't have a problem with Hank wanting to find a job and not piss all over it this time. Isn't his job, writing books though? Can't he just go to a publisher, get an advance and write something?
  12. I think if he went to a therapist for mother issues and got on the right meds for the blackouts, then he would have turned out ok. Like, I said, otherwise, at school, etc., he's an ordinary kid. Now, in the episode, that Norma basically said that she's not going to do anything about it, the clock is essentially ticking. It's not like the blackouts are going to stop.
  13. I think this is the point of the show. There are a lot of "If...then Norman might have been ok" actions in this series. It's a smart move by TPTBs. Because we know how it ends, making Norman a tragic figure really provides the impact when he finally kills Norma. The best part is that he's not some weird loner kid. He's got friends. He's had sex with two, pretty hot girls his own age. He was doing ok in school, and could have been on the track team. But then on this episode, you've got Norman basically asking his mother to get him help for what he's clearly realizing is a serious mental illness, and she not only says no, but don't ever talk about it again. He doesn't really stand a chance.
  14. I don't think potus flipping on abortion is realistic, but I totally bought the fallout from the whole thing. Though I think that someone with 15 years in politics like Selina could have done a better job. *Everything* is focus-tested, or whatever it's called. Meltdown or not, Dan was right. She should have said *something* and Chang got out in front of them on it. I think in this case simpler would have been better
  15. I used to *run* home for 5 pm to watch Farscape because the network didn't have a west coast feed back then. When the show was cancelled before its time, starting a trend on the network that they had no clue how to manage and produce shows; cf., every show ever after Farscape, I always thought that this could be a Star Trek-like franchise. Star Trek I didn't come out till long after the tv show ended, even though the fan base remained strong, and that was way way back then. I don't see why this couldn't happen here. The show universe is pretty rich and fully formed, with as many sentient beings out there, surely, as least as much as Star Trek.
  16. I didn't think either was a copy either. I think the show went to that point when they showed the dead-John hologram playing rock paper sissors with live-John. It was an important scene and more importantly that Aeryn saw this too.
  17. To a point. I find the broadcast networks to be bereft of creativity, but HBO, Shotime, even FX and AMC give their TPTBs a lot of room in developing a show. If Bev and Shawn's script is really that good, she's right; they'd be idiots to get back with the broadcast networks.
  18. I hate reboots. There are, however, concepts that are set up for retellings or continuing the universe that are pretty good. I always thought Sliders could continue on and on and on, for Galactica, retelling is pretty much canon, and I really don't have a problem if QL was continued with the focus on Sammy Jo. The problem is, however, that modern day tv making is basically shit. You'd need a 50+ y/o lead to be able to have the scope of storytelling that you would need for this kind of show. Most networks would probably want a 20 something lead, and I don't think a show with lame jokes about Friends or grunge music would really be that interesting. You get someone old enough though and there's plenty of interesting things. Sam was in Vietnam, now there could be someone going to Iraq, with the foreknowledge that there aren't WMDs there. They'd have to do a 9-11 episode which could be really compelling if keep true to the main premise of the original show too.
  19. Didn't Aramis tell D'A that he cleaned his gun so much so the gun would "be good to him?" I chalk up the accuracy to them being *very fastidious* with the guns. But, at least they show that it's hard to reload them fast and when they got into fights, they shoot once, and get another gun.
  20. I don't mind the drug business plot simply because it's a world-building thing. It gives me a sense that this is an actual town even if it's driven by drug money. But, I think this much of it per show is just about right. There's enough going on with Norma/Norman that they should be mostly featured. I don't have a problem with Cody because it seems like the dad beats her a lot and she's acting out to other adults as a result. Plus, she looked like she was going to cry when Norman yelled at her. It was a good call to tell Emma about the blackouts. I'm pretty psyched about how they're going to deal with the dad. I hope they get away with it. Though in this case, "Cody's dad started beating her so I tried to intervene, got punched in the face and then pushed him and he fell," is a pretty good defense. What I liked about the whole thing from the lake to the end, was that Norman was just pissed off and things got out of hand. Nothing psycho or "Mother." But that's the problem, when you're in this weird, creepy town, it sucks you in. Norma's not going to pack up and leave and she's not going to get him real help, so he's kind of screwed.
  21. It is bleeped on comedy central but it wasn't too hard to figure out what they were saying. I actually think that makes it funnier.
  22. I actually was surprised that Riario had sex with the girl. You know in the back of his mind he was thinking of DaVinci ripping his shirt off when he was tied to the tree.
  23. One of the more subtle things about the episode is that it wasn't all zomg Emma teh SEX! Emma likes the guy, she's not totally in love with him. Norma wasn't all, "You can't have sex ever." If you feel like it's the right time and you like the guy, go for it.
