Hey, the king asked for tongue, not headcheese!

Good thing for all parties involved (well, except Laenor's parents) that forensics as we know it doesn't exist in Westeros. π

Don't let Caitlin Flanagan anywhere near this show -- ever again! -
S20.E28: Michael Moore; Jonathan Lemire; Vivek Ramaswamy

What's worse, his BS dominated the full 15 minutes of OT, and they never got to any more questions. But yeah, I'm glad Bill caught his "whatabout-ism" (so common on the right) and put him in his place. Still wish Michael Moore had been on the panel. ITA, and good luck finding five people to vote with me. It's lonely being a registered Democrat in Utah. π’ -
So now Harley knows Bruce's biggest secret. One way or another, the show will have to address that. Nice to see Ivy get upset over Harley's trouble. Up to now she's been so cool and unruffled about anything other than her plant buddies.

I don't understand how Deran can help Renn and Nick. Other than those diamonds, he has no money that I'm aware of (J took it all) and wouldn't he be a fugitive now? I guess it's one of those eternal loose ends. Did anyone else catch the drink J gave Penny? Vodka and cranberry, Smurf's go-to beverage. Strange as it sounds, Pope was the only Cody with any kind of moral center, as twisted as he was. I'm glad I persevered to the end of this series, but I'm just as happy it's over. Now I can focus on House of the Dragon -- another f*cked-up family.

S20.E25: John Waters; Rob Reiner; Sen. Amy Klobuchar

I agree with the above posters about this week's guests. It's much better when the guests refuse to get sucked into one of Bill's talking points. Bill needs to steer clear of the abortion issue until he learns to address it like a mature adult. There are plenty of reasons to be pro-choice, other than saying how awful today's kids are. Re the final New Rule: A lot of work must have gone into building that "straw man," but it was all for naught. The bit was just not funny. Of course the attack on Salman Rushdie was reprehensible, but I groaned when Bill started going there. I knew he would turn it into a general attack on Islam, and once again, he did not disappoint. π -
I got the same vibe. Wasn't he cruising that car lot by himself late in the episode? Maybe he's looking for his own vehicle?

As others have pointed out already, there were many things to object to about this show, but IMO Bill's final New Rule was right on the money. All actors should be allowed to play whatever roles they appear to be good in, regardless of what they may be IRL. It kind of hits home with me personally. Many years ago I acted in a play about the Holocaust. I'm not Jewish, but my character was. Other people in the cast played Jews and gay men, and they weren't necessarily either of those. I had a good time doing what I did, and it disturbs me to think some people would object to that today. -

Bill is talking out of both sides of his mouth, again. One moment he tells us science is not to be trusted. Then with his final New Rule, he says overweight people are contradicting science. Which is it, Bill? π -
I've been having the same thoughts. Maybe the flashbacks will jump ahead a few years. Enjoyed that shout-out to The Real World. π Anyone else think that some Cody (I'm guessing Pope) will notice how the box of cereal was turned around? Personally, I didn't care for any of the stolen jewelry, value notwithstanding. Just too gaudy for my taste. If any of it came into my possession, I'd probably try to sell it.

I live in Utah (which just made abortion illegal, BTW) and sadly, it's every bit as crazy here as John describes. Our governor may not be calling for prayers this year, but he did declare a drought emergency weeks ago, and it's only the beginning of summer. Until last week, I was allowed to water my lawn just one day per week, but now I see the state has increased it to two days. Don't ask me how that happened. But then, I live in the Salt Lake City metro area, That's where the mountains are, and whatever snow we get falls there. St. George is way to the south, so they may have it worse.

Interesting parallels in dialogue toward the end: Annie tells Hughie that it isn't the Temp-V that makes him unpleasant, it's something naturally within him. (Okay, I'm paraphrasing.) And Kimiko tells Frenchie she's really a "monster" with or without the V's effects, which Frenchie refuses to accept.

That hamster gave me flashbacks of the "killer rabbit" from Monty Python and the Holy Grail ! Anyone else? One little detail about Homelander that infuriates me: the way he'll say something offensive, and then smile and say, "just kidding." Given what Americans have had to endure for the last five years, that hits too close to home.

S20.E18: Cornel West; Kellyanne Conway; Josh Barro
arachne replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in Real Time With Bill Maher
IIRC, Bill kept talking a couple years ago about how Trump would never leave the White House! Well, guess what? He did. And now Bill wants credit for predicting that Trump would never accept defeat? Sorry, Bill, not the same thing. Myself, I found him a bit less obnoxious this week than usual. I wish Cornel West had been on the panel, not be the opening guest. I kept waiting for him to confront Kelllyanne directly, and he never did, not even on Overtime. If I hear the word "gas" anymore today, it's gonna give me gas! π€’ -
Finally, a LWT main story that I can actually do something about -- as in, never eat from Subway again!

I've seen the first four episodes so far. Still doing meta jokes about Kevin, I see. Glad to see the return of Buddy Cole, and how the show has accepted the passage of time ("The Last Fax" sketch.) However, that Shakespeare sketch was a bust, no pun intended -- or WAS it?? π

S20.E13: Fran Liebowitz; Doug Jones; Ali Velshi

During Overtime, Bill continued to rant about Gen Z -- and then had to backtrack when he remembered some of them work for his show. "We don't hire assholes," he quickly said. -

Good panel last night -- Ali Velshi and Doug Jones were able to keep Bill mostly in check. I say "mostly" because Bill refuses to let go of Gen Z griping. Deal with it, Bill, Gen Z is not going away, they'll get older and then there will be another generation to complain about. Doug Jones was (not surprisingly) a mite too defensive about the Democrats. I'm afraid I must agree with Bill: the upcoming hearings about 1/6/2021, while important, will not change enough minds at the ballot box. Who in the audience keeps whoopin' and hollerin' at everything Bill says? Are they getting paid for that, or are they just high? That Disney movie bit mid-show -- not funny in the least! π And I can't believe Bill has never heard of Orthodox Christianity! -
I'm glad John Heileman (?) and Senator Tester were there this week to keep Bill in check. For a moment, I thought Bill was heading for another of his "free speech vs. cancel culture" rants, but they interrupted him. As for his final New Rule, Bill showed himself as clueless as ever about male/female relationships. President Zelensky is acting so bravely not because he's a man, but because he's the responsible leader his country needs right now. I have no doubt that if Zelensky were female, she'd act the same way. And yes, there are more men than women fighting in Ukraine -- because the men were ordered to stay there! As for the reported drop in sexual activity Bill mentioned, I just didn't get the point. If it's true, the reasons are probably more complex than mere gender issues, as Bill suggests. And this week's Overtime was, in a word, depressing. π

Ironic, that. Didn't the Normans start out as Vikings themselves?
-
I'd been avoiding the show this year, but this one was decent. Bill was a lot less obnoxious than usual. (Maybe he's just happy at the prospect of losing the masks.) Still had to get his dig in at "wokeness" though. And if it's true, as Bill says, that Trump is losing support, I agree with him that Democrats/progressives must be more generous with ex-Trumpers. I'm sick of the whole "us vs. them" dichotomy myself; it's ultimately counter-productive.

Ugh, not Dagmar again! I'd tell her to go to hell, but... π

I guess this show didn't have the budget for de-aging CGI -- you gotta be Scorsese to merit that. π

The episode title "Love is Hell" sounds like a shout-out to Matt Groening's Life in Hell comic strip.
