  1. Charles Dance, Courtney B. Vance and Carl Weathers had recurring roles in their respective series, yet were nominated in the Guest Actor category alongside Don Cheadle and Timothy Olyphant, who each only appeared in one episode. I was shocked that Vance was nominated here and not in Supporting, as he appeared in three episodes of "Lovecraft Country" in a relatively large role. (I'm not questioning his nomination; he gave an excellent performance. Just questioning the category.) Carl Lumbly would have qualified in this category.
  2. I love Don Cheadle, but a cameo that can be measured in seconds should not be an Emmy nominee, even in the Guest Actor category. Right show, wrong actor nominated. Cheadle's slot should have gone to Carl Lumbly's brilliant performance as Isaiah Bradley.
  3. The clue read, "Central nervous system depressants include tranquilizers for anxiety and these sleep inducers, from Latin for 'calm.'"
  4. Small correction: The Emmy nominations are being announced this Tuesday, July 13th. The Emmys' website, which I'm linking here, shows the time of the announcement as 8:30 a.m. PDT, but I'm wondering if that is actually correct, as the announcement is usually at 8:30 a.m. Eastern so the network morning shows can air them and discuss. https://www.emmys.com/events/73rd-emmy-nominations-announcement I've done some searching and I can't find any info on a host having been named for this year's telecast, so barring a last-minute announcement, it appears that the Emmys will be hostless. As to personal favorites, I will be angry if Jurnee Smollett's incredible performance in Lovecraft Country is overlooked. Some of the articles I've been reading have Jonathan Majors listed as a likely nominee, but not Jurnee. 😠
  5. Possibly. Lindsey and Christine would like a word with you.
  6. A Raggedy Ann doll with a knife stuck through its throat (that would be quite a macabre muumuu!); a book of Eskimo poetry; a black Vera Wang; a cricket bat; a voice recorder being smashed by a gavel.
  7. Agreed. The Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne moments were certainly worthy contenders for this title. The fictional nominees in this category paled in comparison to those from real-life.
  8. From the categories where I can see the results--you can only see results for categories in which you voted--it was by far the largest margin of victory, more than 2:1. (I voted in a good majority of the categories.) For anyone who voted and would like to see the full results, here's the direct link: https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/119998-pass-the-brain-bleach-least-favorite-tv-moment-of-the-year/?tab=comments#comment-6851721
  9. I just re-watched the episode and was coming here to post exactly this. That look on Loki's face was as if everything Mobius had said to him in their final interrogation clicked. Regardless of whether or not it's love, a union of the two Lokis creates a Nexus event powerful enough to bring down the TVA. Not to mention the potential addition/team-up of all the Lokis we met in the mid-credits scene.
  10. Mid-credits scene: I realize he's credited as Boastful Loki, but as he's the only one of the four without Loki horns, couldn't that character actually be a variant Thor? Also, while we don't know when that scene is, it certainly looks as if Loki has landed in Central Park as that's definitely a destroyed Stark/Avengers Tower in the background to the right. I need it to be next Wednesday now!!!
  11. I like Kwame. I liked him during his Top Chef season and I've liked him every time he's been back on the show, including this season. I haven't seen him exhibit any behavior that could be considered in any way obnoxious.
  12. Remember that time when a chef put out a scrumptious plate of food but the judges sent them packing because the presentation was somewhat messy? Yeah, me neither.
  13. Option: "I had cooked and planned on serving sweet potatoes with the crab, but when I tasted them, I realized that the flavor was strong and possibly too sweet. I worried they would overpower the flavor of the crab. I wanted the crab and the sauce I prepared for you to shine, so I opted not to serve the sweet potatoes." But, as I said much earlier in the thread, Dawn's a good person and volunteered that she just wasn't able to plate them in time.
  14. Not really a stretch. Fried fish is often served with cocktail sauce, which is ketchup with a kick of horseradish added to it.
  15. I've already referenced this regarding the Lucifer noir episode, but it fits in this discussion too. The groundbreaking noir episode of Moonlighting, "The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice", also contained musical numbers. The episode first aired on October 15th, 1985, almost 36 years ago! I don't see noirs and/or musicals as rip-offs; they're homages. Also, y'all need to go watch some Moonlighting!
  16. Gabe actually had a third issue in that several of the judges thought the Jerusalem Artichokes were bitter and overpowered the crab, which the chefs were specifically told to make the star of the dish. Hmm, sounds like a time management issue to me. In the Alice Waters video chat with Tom and the remaining cheftestants, Gabe asked Ms. Waters directly what James Beard's favorite way to enjoy Dungeness Crab was and she said that he'd tie on a bib and get his hands dirty. Dawn's dish followed her direction.
  17. The clue read: "Bright new lighting installed in 1880 on a street that crosses Manhattan diagonally led to this three word nickname." The street that crosses Manhattan diagonally is Broadway. Downtown, it's on the east side of the city and as it works its way uptown, it ends up on the west side of the city. Once I knew that the street in question was Broadway, its nickname "Great White Way" was an instaget. I was just outlining my thought process in my earlier post.
  18. Learn something new each day here. I didn't know there was a Chicago Miracle Mile. When I saw Nickee's response, I immediately thought of Manhasset, Long Island, NY's Miracle Mile, cited in native Long Islander Billy Joel's "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me." What's the matter with the car I'm driving? "Can't you tell that it's out of style?" Should I get a set of white wall tires? "Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile? FJ itself was an instaget for me. Diagonal=Broadway=Great White Way.
  19. I don't think people understand the meaning of "Greatest Show of All Time." Otherwise, we certainly wouldn't be looking at WKRP in Cincinnati as a finalist. 🤦‍♀️ BTW, I did watch and enjoy WKRP, but that doesn't make it a G.O.A.T. candidate!
  20. The West Wing didn't even make the cut to be voted on in the final round of the Primetimers. 😞 For the record, neither did Breaking Bad. 🤷‍♀️
  21. I wonder if a three chef finale wasn't the plan all along. Had Byron made it back into the competition, they would have eliminated a chef in this episode to get to three for the finale. No insider info here, JMO. I'm glad we'll get to see three amazing chefs, each with a very distinct style, cook in the finale. Had they truly wanted to send a chef home, I think the case could have been made for Gabe, in that his cold dish wasn't cold and then several of the diners said that the Jerusalem Artichokes were too forward and overpowered the crab. Dawn's a better person than I am because I sure wouldn't have mentioned that I was planning to serve sweet potatoes but didn't have enough time. Unlike Shota, who'd committed to Crab Sushi two ways for the menu and didn't deliver on the second, or Gabe who's one missing tortilla was obvious, the judges had no idea that there were sweet potatoes left in the kitchen! I liked how Shota thought to collect some seaweed for his QF dish. Shota's been James Beard nominated for Best Rising Star three times? I didn't realize that was possible. I figured that was a one and done category. Interesting that he lost to Kwame one of those times.
  22. I've liked everything that Savannah's worn during her hosting stint. I think her style choices have been excellent, including, perhaps even especially, the yellow dress. To me, she's been a very pleasant surprise. For FJ, my brain took a wild left turn on me. I knew instantly that they were looking for the first woman in space and Valentina came to mind right away. Unfortunately, my brain then jumbled the surname of the fabulous late '60s/early '70s Soviet gymnast Ludmilla Tourischeva with the actual surname of the cosmonaut and I came up with something like Torishkeva, which I knew wasn't right and would most certainly have been ruled incorrect.
  23. I watch this show at various times and today is actually the first time I've seen one of the episodes filmed post-COVID19 with the contestants spread 6 feet apart, which has created an in-game issue IMO. Team members have always been able to confer with each other on pick-ups, the words left on the board by the other team. Now, they can't confer and have to answer individually. Granted, I've only watched one game with the new layout, but it definitely hampered both of the teams I saw. I don't think either team got even one pick-up!
  24. Well, they did show us the Citgo sign! I posted an interview that Jean Smart did for The New Yorker in the media thread. Yes, they did shoot the funeral scene shortly after Richard Gilliland's death. Wow. I can't imagine.
