  1. Yes, that's the exact thing I read. Fifteen and a half is only if they take driver's ed, which throws another condition into the mix, hence why I chose 16. Also because Abigail is 16 in BLL. Additionally, the CA DMV site is a bit vague on what other restrictions are placed on younger teenage drivers until they are fully licensed at 17 1/2 or 18. My point was that Abigail most likely needed to enlist the assistance of an adult to get to PP. Or an Uber!
  2. https://www.google.com/amp/www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/la-et-st-big-little-lies-feature-20170216-story,amp.html I had read a different article quite a while back but can't seem to find it right now. This one covers a good amount of territory though.
  3. I just researched California regulations for driver licensing. At 16, she would be on a provisional license where at least the first 50 hours behind the wheel have to be under the supervision of a licensed driver who is 25 or older. The provisional license remains until 17 1/2 or 18, which would make it difficult even if one has friends who are a bit older. It certainly looks as if Abigail would have needed adult assistance to get to Planned Parenthood.
  4. Sorry to read this today. http://www.postandcourier.com/charleston_sc/top-chef-contestant-jamie-lynch-arrested-in-charleston-on-public/article_3b70973e-0027-11e7-97c3-2b95c278547b.html
  5. I'm a little disappointed. I like them both, but was hoping Shirley would win. I would love to taste those pork shanks! And that dessert too! Way to go Sam, the garlic puree was greatly praised which pleased me as a Sam fan. I was weeping at the scene where Shirley's mother told her (in English!) how proud she was of her. What a moment! Gail looked absolutely gorgeous. Positively stunning.

  10. I understand what the protocol said but in a crisis, human nature dictates. That's a hard decision to make, to run out and stop a show running late and being broadcast live to billions of people all over the planet. If a headset com was available to them, in a quick second they'd be able to say, "This is the disaster we hoped would never happen. We have to go out there and fix it, right?"
  11. This is important. Why don't they have headsets so they can speak to each other? Nowhere in the plan did anyone ever think that it might be important for the two of them to be able to speak to each other? I could fully understand that in the midst of a disaster like what happened Sunday night that even if the protocol dictates it, either of them might not have been secure in immediately rushing the stage after Faye Dunaway called out La La Land as the winner. I'd imagine you'd want some form of corroboration on that. Had they been able to communicate, I could see one of them saying, "She just announced the wrong winner. Should we go out there right now and stop this?" No one would want to make that decision on their own. Safety in numbers.
  12. Overall, I thought this was a good episode. There were no stupid games and even Margaret seemed to actually discuss fashion, albeit with a few of her distasteful jokes thrown in. Brad was on fire this episode! His energy was contagious. The whole panel was relaxed and seemed to play off him. It worked very well. We had actual Best Dressed Nominees and an official Best Dressed and Worst Dressed choice, which is as it should be. As usual, I would have liked to see a few more of the men. If I'm recalling correctly, the only three who were highlighted were Ryan Gosling, Pharrell Williams and Terrance Howard, all of whom would have been on the worst dressed side. How about a little love for the guys who really brought it? Mahershala Ali, Dev Patel, Riz Ahmed? I wanted a bit more of that. Of course, Brad found himself right in the men's discussion as he and Matthew Morrison were wearing the same thing! That was a funny part of the ep. I didn't mind seeing a bit of the post-awards party fashion, although I wish they had spent less time on the weird outfits worn by lesser celebrities. I would have liked to see the ensembles that the nominees changed into. I saw a photo of Emma Stone's post awards dress, liked it and would like to have seen what some of the other stars of the night were wearing to party in.
  13. Oscars Producer Michael De Luca Breaks Silence on Backstage Chaos: "It Was Like the Hindenburg" http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/oscars-producer-michael-de-luca-breaks-silence-backstage-chaos-was-like-hindenburg-981842?facebook_20170301
  14. First let me say that I agree with you and would personally have no problem replacing Nicole Kidman. I've never been particularly impressed with her acting ability and am not here. Unfortunately though, both Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are executive producers on Big Little Lies and optioned the rights to the project for both of them to produce and star in it. This is their baby; can't fire the boss! I could be wrong on this and I didn't go back and re-watch, but it looked to me like the boys were watching The Fairly OddParents not playing a video game. I totally agree with you that the soundtrack is terrific. But I had the same thought about Chloe. For me it was the Leon Bridges song, "River". I love his music but what 6 year old would be listening to that independent of parental choice? It didn't seem that Madeline had been familiar with the song because she listened for a couple of beats and then said to Chloe that it was a beautiful song. Chloe as the constant dispenser of everyone's music is kind of strange to me. Laura Dern's portrayal of Renata is terrific. The fact that we all hate her just seals it for me! In the scene between Nathan and Ed, it didn't seem to me that Nathan had prior knowledge of the fact that Bonnie drove Abigail to Planned Parenthood. In fact he didn't seem to really care at all one way or the other which really ticked me off. I was yelling at the TV, "She's your daughter too, asshole!" Just my opinion.
  15. Interesting media article in the New York Times about monitoring panelists' television viewing habits, not just what programs they're watching but the level of attention they're paying to the programming. What sparked my interest is that in the article, Lucifer is being compared to one of the highest rated shows on television, The Big Bang Theory. I'll quote the payoff here, but the full article is worth the read. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/02/25/business/media/tv-viewers-tracking-tools.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&_r=0&referer=https://t.co/UWA892Bmmq

  17. I know that the Fashion Police Oscars' special hasn't run yet but last night's fashions are already out there so I figured it was OK to make a few comments about them. Overall, I was really disappointed in the fashion choices at the 2017 Oscars. Some years we get lots of great fashion. I don't think last night was one of them. To me, the only person who completely knocked it out of the park was Taraji P. Henson. She looked amazing, head to toe. Hands down, best dressed for me. In second place--and I can't believe I'm typing this as I always think she looks awful!--is Taraji's Hidden Figures co-star, Kirsten Dunst. Stunning. While I'm at it, I'll say that the other two Hidden Figures' ladies, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae also looked great. Full disclosure: I almost always love what Janelle wears. I really like her off beat fashion takes. In no particular order I also liked (although not loved) Isabelle Huppert, Viola Davis and Karlie Kloss. Now the men brought it, especially Mahershala Ali and Dev Patel! Andrew Garfield looked great too. Even though I wasn't knocked out by her dress--she looked fine but not outstanding--I have to give Best Hair to Emma Stone. On the other side of the coin, Worst Dressed is an easy choice: Dakota Johnson. She looked as if she'd raided Joan Crawford's closet! Horrible look. I also hated Emma Roberts' dress. Biggest disappointment for me was Alicea Vikander. She is usually high on my best dressed lists and last night was a complete swing and miss. I was really looking forward to seeing her too. And for the men, I really hate saying this because he usually looks great, but Ryan Gosling was a fashion don't last night. :( I really didn't care for the shirt. As I gave out a Best Hair win, I'll even it out with a Worst Hair WTH Was She Thinking to Halle Berry. The dress wasn't terrible but the hair sure was. I'm guessing that was a wig? Why?
  18. I agree that Amy Adams should have gotten a nomination this year, specifically the slot that went to Meryl Streep. The Oscar nominations were not finalized until a couple of weeks after the Golden Globes were held. I firmly believe that Meryl only secured her FFJ nomination AFTER she made her anti-Trump speech. IMO, it was her reward for that, at the expense of Amy Adams (and to a slightly lesser extent at Taraji P. Henson's for Hidden Figures.) I loved her speech BTW but don't think one should have anything to do with the other. Although she wasn't nominated, she did attend and presented the award for Best Adapted Screenplay. If you'd like to see what she wore to the Oscars, here's a link to a photo of her gown. It was again a Tom Ford, following what she's been doing much of this awards season showcasing her Nocturnal Animals director. http://hollywoodlife.com/2017/02/26/amy-adams-oscar-dress-2017-oscars-gown/ IMO, that scene is the best acted scene in any 2016 movie. Absolutely amazing. Well, not that far off base. She was in Suicide Squad! Except not. I guess the Washington Post needs an introduction to Whoopi Goldberg. All the songs are from various movies. "The Heat is On" is from Beverly Hills Cop. I'm so happy to read this. I thought it was just me! What made it even worse is that many of the celebrities seated up front pulled out their phones to video the tourists! I agree with both of you on this. He was so good and incredibly handsome in both of those. I joked when he was named People's first Sexiest Man Alive that they should just retire the award immediately. And then years later we discover that he is just an awful, awful human being. Some of Hollywood may have taken the forgive and forget route but this fan definitely hasn't. He sickens me.
  19. ROFLMAO! I figured it was one of those situations where Canada got it a day before the US did. I had no idea that HBO was streaming it early. Oh well, I saw this too late as I'm already watching the pre-red carpet stuff. I'll watch the episode Monday.
  20. I'm confused. I thought this episode didn't premiere until 9:00 p.m. EST. Where are you all from that you've already seen the episode?
  21. I think you meant Tabasco? Just curious as to why you think Shirley would have an asterisk beside her name. I can see what you mean for Brooke, as she would have won after coming back through Last Chance Kitchen but I don't quite get why Shirley wouldn't be deserving of the win if she cooks her best in the finale.
  22. I agree that the best performance by a Lead Actor this year was given by Casey Affleck but I think that those past allegations may prevent him from winning the Oscar. BTW, the film for which he was previously nominated in the Supporting Actor category was The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, not for Gone Baby Gone. While I enjoyed La La Land a great deal, I don't think that the performances of either Ryan Gosling or Emma Stone are worthy of the Oscar although I like both of them. If I had a vote for Best Actress, it would go to Ruth Negga for Loving. Much like Casey Affleck's, hers was an arresting, but understated performance. I think Natalie Portman's performance in Jackie is also a worthy contender. I am, however, prepared to be disappointed.
  23. Agreed. What really cracked me up was that William made a beeline for the fireplace, jiggled the brick loose, collected his "treasures" and then just headed for the door, no small talk with the current owners, no desire to see the rest of the house. It was: OK, I got what I came for and I'm outta here!
  24. This needs to be on a T-shirt, or embroidered on a pillow! :D Well, the last time Brooke attempted to apply heat to a protein, it got her booted to LCK!
  25. I don't in any way think that Brooke is undeserving, I think she's a great chef but this episode proved to me that the producers want a Brooke victory. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. I actually like her but my first choice to win would be Sheldon, followed by Shirley.
