Inside Out finished at #1 with the final numbers: $29.7M for IO and $29.2M for Jurassic World. My Big Fat Greek Wedding lives another day!

Estimates have less than $1 million separating the Top 2 and placing could change with the final numbers. It's not common though it did just happen less than a year ago. Box Office Mojo continues to fail (the site's still up, but majorly error-riddled) so here are the weekend numbers from The Numbers: 1 (1) Jurassic World $30,942,360 | 3,737 Theaters | $8,280 Avg. | $558,167,275 2 (2) Inside Out $30,105,000 | 4,158 Theaters | $7,240 Avg. | $246,160,932 3 (N) Terminator: Genisys $28,700,000 | 3,758 Theaters | $7,637 Avg. | $44,130,404 4 (N) Magic Mike XXL $12,040,000 | 3,355 Theaters | $3,589 Avg. | $27,071,397 5 (3) Ted 2 $11,016,360 | 3,448 Theaters | $3,195 Avg. | $58,311,050 6 (4) Max $7,000,000 | 2,870 Theaters | $2,439 Avg. | $25,753,607 7 (5) Spy $5,500,000 | 2,387 Theaters | $2,304 Avg. | $97,896,059 8 (6) San Andreas $3,000,000 | 1,672 Theaters | $1,794 Avg. | $147,368,269 9 (14) Me and Earl and the Dying Girl $1,320,000 | 870 Theaters | $1,517 Avg. | $4,004,245 10 (7) Dope $1,098,338 | 863 Theaters | $1,273 Avg. | $14,104,610 Love & Mercy $726,000 | 444 Theaters | $1,635 Avg. | $10,513,815 Faith of Our Fathers $432,505 | 344 Theaters | $1,257 Avg. | $621,296 Amy $222,015 | 6 Theaters | $37,003 Avg. | $222,015 Far from the Madding Crowd $130,000 | 105 Theaters | $1,238 Avg. | $11,849,821 A Little Chaos $126,000 | 87 Theaters | $1,448 Avg. | $395,753 Insurgent $70,000 | 124 Theaters | $565 Avg. | $130,131,047 Global Totals: JURASSIC WORLD: $826.9M Overseas Total | $1.385B Global Total AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON: $929.3M Overseas Total | $1.384B Global Total INSIDE OUT: $117.3M Overseas Total | $363.46M Global Total SPY: $112.78M Overseas Total | $210M Global Total TERMINATOR: GENISYS: $85.5M Overseas Total | $129.66M Global Total MINIONS: $124.2M Global Total TED 2: $36M Overseas Total | $94.3M Global Total INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3: $42.1M Overseas Total | $93.3M Global Total POLTERGEIST: $45.08M Overseas Total | $92.15M Global Total DRAGON BALL Z: RESURRECTION F: $49.05M Global Total FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD: $13.97M Overseas Total | $25.8M Global Total

It was a subplot in the book. Mrs. O'Hara had her own "Ashley" in a way: his name was Philippe and he might have been a cousin? IIRC, Mammy mentions it to Scarlett later, that his name was on Mrs. O'Hara's lips as she lie dying at Tara. I don't know what real marriage patterns were across all classes, but in this "genteel" world Margaret Mitchell presents, the girls weren't sent to college or meant to have their own accomplishments outside of motherhood and being ladylike. Meanwhile, the men were expected to have some sort of advanced education and/or training to either support themselves or know how to run the family business, before they got married. It sets up a world where the eligible men would generally be much older than the single women.

David Fincher is pretty notorious for doing dozens of takes for every scene, with several of his actors finding it difficult/draining. I wouldn't be surprised at all if there are twenty different readings of the Cool Girl scene on a hard drive somewhere in the vault.

IDK, regular people go into relationships with people from work without having the benefit of it being their job to make out with each other and pretend to be in love first. Lots of co-stars don't hook up and some hate each other. With actors, sometimes it really is just a performance thing, and they aren't each other's types IRL. Some stars do actively decide not to act on their chemistry in real life... I believe Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore copped to having crushes on each other but nothing ever happened. Alan Thicke says he and Joanna Kerns were attracted to each other when they first started working together, but talked it out and decided that Growing Pains might last longer than a relationship and they should just be friends. It's probably easier not to get carried away on a family sitcom because they tend not to have hot and heavy love scenes. As for Tony Goldwyn and Kerry Washington, the Terry shippers would have a few things to say about the contention that nothing happened there. Personally, I think there's a wide gulf between totally platonic friends and "He's the secret father of her baby!" that shippers and anti-shippers generally fail to acknowledge. And, no, Tony Goldwyn and Nnamdi Asomugha don't exactly share a resemblance but why let logic ruin a perfectly good conspiracy, lol.

Without spoiling too much I'll say that
-
I'm not sure there's any logical explanation for it, other than it being the sort of Scandal plot contrivance you have to hand-wave in order to enjoy the show.

Maleficent made more than $750 million worldwide. It could have won all the Razzies and Disney still would've wanted a sequel.

I loved their reaction to "Manaconda" being the missing answer on the question about a thing a guy would name after himself. I tuned in midway for that round and figured it had already been ruled out, especially since all the contestants were guys. Turns out they were all thinking it, but no one wanted to say it! Funny to see the pro football players being so decorous. Great Fast Money round from Catherine, though I wonder if any of the celebrity families will fail to get to 200 (I doubt it). I watched her on The Bachelor but never noticed how much she looks like Danica McKellar.

Here's some tracking info that's about ten days old:

That's a good way to try to keep people from skipping out on refreshments, since theaters make most of their money through concessions. I think I posted on TWoP about the time I left The Great Gatsby and overheard a guy complain to his date that he thought it was going to be about a magician. Apparently, he'd mixed it up with The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.

If the estimates hold, Inside Out may end up becoming the top movie never to hit #1 for the weekend. The current champ is My Big Fat Greek Wedding at $241 million. Jurassic World also hits another major milestone. June 26–26, 2015 Estimates: 1 (1) Jurassic World $54,200,000 | 4,198 Theaters | $12,911 Avg. | $500,100,000 2 (2) Inside Out $52,128,000 | 4,132 Theaters | $12,616 Avg. | $184,945,000 3 (N) Ted 2 $33,000,000 | 3,442 Theaters | $9,587 Avg. | $33,000,000 4 (N) Max $12,210,000 | 2,855 Theaters | $4,277 Avg. | $12,210,000 5 (3) Spy $7,800,000 | 3,194 Theaters | $2,442 Avg. | $88,351,000 6 (4) San Andreas $5,275,000 | 2,620 Theaters | $2,013 Avg. | $141,871,000 7 (5) Dope $2,862,000 | 1,851 Theaters | $1,546 Avg. | $11,776,000 8 (6) Insidious Chapter 3 $2,025,000 | 1,612 Theaters | $1,256 Avg. | $49,816,000 9 (8) Mad Max: Fury Road $1,735,000 | 961 Theaters | $1,805 Avg. | $147,078,000 10 (9) Avengers: Age of Ultron $1,643,000 | 1,097 Theaters | $1,498 Avg. | $452,428,000 Pitch Perfect 2 $1,400,000 | 1,061 Theaters | $1,320 Avg. | $180,994,000 Love & Mercy $1,310,000 | 724 Theaters | $1,809 Avg. | $9,293,000 Tomorrowland $965,000 | 714 Theaters | $1,352 Avg. | $90,078,000 I'll See You In My Dreams $582,000 | 290 Theaters | $2,007 Avg. | $5,001,000 Home $410,000 | 275 Theaters | $1,491 Avg. | $174,755,000 Cinderella $280,000 | 235 Theaters | $1,191 Avg. | $200,306,000 Global Totals: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON: $919.1M Overseas Total | $1.3715B Global Total JURASSIC WORLD: $737.5M Overseas Total | $1.238B Global Total SAN ANDREAS: $297.8M Overseas Total | $439.67M Global Total MAD MAX FURY ROAD: $209.3M Overseas Total | $356.37M Global Total PITCH PERFECT 2: $95.8M Overseas Total | $276.8M Global Total INSIDE OUT: $81.5M Overseas Total | $266.4M Global Total TOMORROWLAND: $111.9M Overseas Total | $202.0M Global Total SPY: $106.56M Overseas Total | $194.91M Global Total POLTERGEIST: $39.4M Overseas Total | $86.4M Global Total INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3: $37.0M Overseas Total | $84.8M Global Total MINIONS: $51.7M Global Total TED 2: $20.3M Overseas Total | $53.2M Global Total HOT PURSUIT: $11.1M Overseas Total | $45.14M Global Total DRAGON BALL Z: RESURRECTION F: $44.8M Global Total ENTOURAGE: $12.3M Overseas Total | $43.7M Global Total TERMINATOR: GENISYS: $8.3M Global Total

Oops, I forgot that was still even on! Premiere numbers: 2.162 million viewers, 1.1 18-49 rating.

I believe that in British parlance, "homely" leans more to meaning plain/ordinary yet pleasant, but it's said more about places rather than people. In the US, it does mean ugly, when said about a person's looks. Gabaldon is an American writer, but these characters are from Scotland and England... If the TV show gets a season 3 or 4, Young Ian's looks will probably be upgraded, as it tends to happen with heroic characters in screen adaptations.

Memorial Day weekend could have used Spy and that would've been one more weekend away from Jurassic World. I also think the reaction to Tammy caught up with McCarthy and hurt her next big comedy, but Spy will restore some goodwill. Summer weekdays will help the quest for $100 million, though Ted 2 will take screens and offer competition. Edge of Tomorrow, last summer's sci-fi with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt? It was out of theaters a while ago, obviously.

Playmakers was the show that the NFL leaned on ESPN to cancel. They had leverage in that ESPN also showed NFL games, which isn't an issue for HBO (even Inside the NFL moved to Showtime years ago). The NFL has a thousand bigger problems but they like to get on a high horse about the integrity of the league, so it wouldn't surprise me if they made known their unhappiness about the unauthorized use of the shield. I wonder if there's more to the story with that player in The Rock's flashback. Did the hit lead to some sort of permanent injury to the other guy, sending The Rock into a tailspin of bad play that ended his career? I cringed when he started to eulogize that teammates of his as a great family man, then thought of Steve McNair.

Before she went through the stones, Bree told Roger she's worried that she might fall out of love with him, the way Claire did with Frank, in time. Not due to time travel per se, but when Bree looked at old photos of Claire and Frank in the early days, they seemed very happy together and she wouldn't have imagined Claire eventually losing interest in Frank. I think Bree's age is also a part of it: she's in her early 20s, which is a typical marriageable age for a woman circa 1970, but a person can still grow and change a lot in that time. Claire married Frank at 18 and there was a decent age difference, and Roger's at least 30 by the time he and Bree are seriously involved (not to say that 30 is old, just that it's often a different phase/mindset than 22). My sense was that she loved him but worried about being too young for marriage. There also might have been an element of Bree being annoyed with the latent chauvinism on Roger's part, like how he would only sleep with her after they were married because that was more respectable in his eyes, even as it was fine for him not to be a virgin. She was furious that he didn't tell her about the the death notice to protect her delicate feminine feelings (to Bree's mind, at least). I think Bree in breeks was to show her modernity and mark her as a person out of place/time in a different way than Claire. Young Ian was described as having a strong resemblance to his father, who was also described as not being particularly handsome. I never think of either as being ugly, per se, just sort of average in looks.

I've also seen Djokovic referred to as Nole sometimes but it's not as widespread as something like Rafa for Nadal. Also, on tennis boards posters will call him the Djoker, but it's often derisive.

Some people do advocate more positive portrayals but others just want minorities to get more chances to be cast at leads, hero or villain. Back when Denzel and Halle won Oscars, there were complaints from some black commentators about Hollywood rewarding negative (and sexualized, in Halle's case) black stereotypes, and more than ten years later at the NAACP Awards, Red Tails won out over Django Unchained for the best film. On the other hand, Viola Davis has said of her morally gray TV character on How to Get Away With Murder that it's given her a range of material that she hasn't had the chance to tackle in movies. Noble and dignified may be uplifting to watch but can be boring for an actor to play. I think if there's more balance or a mix of character types for minorities then there's less room for criticism. If Magneto and Professor X were both black, then it would blunt the objections about the villain being problematic. A black Edward obsessed with a white Bella probably would get slammed for playing into the worst fears of racists, but if he were Asian and she were black, that just might have been praised as a refreshing change of pace. With Gone Girl, I think race actually is relevant to the story, in the sense that it's very much a commentary on the Missing White Woman phenomenon, and Nick is pretty much a fictionalized Scott Peterson. Hitch was ten years ago but it starred Will Smith and Eva Mendes, and even that was a studio compromise of sorts: The mainstream rom-com has been in the doldrums for the past few years so I think studios aren't going to be too high on interracial romances in the genre any time soon. Aloha saying Emma Stone is part-Chinese and Hawaiian but just doesn't look it, doesn't exactly count...

It really shows that the overall weak box office last year was down to the level of interest the general public had in 2014's slate. There was just one 2014 movie get to $350 million, barely, and it made most of its money earlier this year (American Sniper). This year there are already three, plus the latest Star Wars and the last Hunger Games movie are good bets to join the list. The actual numbers give Jurassic World the highest second weekend ever, with $106,588,440. It's made $402.8M in ten days. It's going to get much closer to Jurassic Park in admissions than anyone ever would have guessed this time two weeks ago.

There really was quite a resemblance between Monica and her sisters, and the similar hair/clothes didn't help. Odd combo with the Cavs t-shirts--jeans would've a much better look. I can't believe condoms was the number one answer for things you didn't mean to leave in the collection plate at church! I wonder if the Parents' Television Council takes a summer holiday or will they be up in arms about some of the suggestive questions/answers on network TV.

Exciting finish to the US Open! Ooof to Dustin Johnson on the 18th hole. I don't know about golf on FOX just yet...

Jurassic World is a little more than $1 million under the all-time second weekend record (currently The Avengers at $103,052,274). Fathers' Day tends to be good to action movies, so the final number just may go up. Inside Out takes the record for best opening weekend to miss #1, replacing The Day After Tomorrow at $68.7 million. It was blocked by the second weekend of Shrek 2. June 19–24, 2015 Estimates: 1 (1) Jurassic World $102,019,000 | 4,291 Theaters | $23,775 Avg. | $398,230,000 2 (N) Inside Out $91,056,000 | 3,946 Theaters | $23,076 Avg. | $91,056,000 3 (2) Spy $10,500,000 | 3,558 Theaters | $2,951 Avg. | $74,374,000 4 (3) San Andreas $8,240,000 | 3,177 Theaters | $2,594 Avg. | $132,229,000 5 (N) Dope $6,018,000 | 2,002 Theaters | $3,006 Avg. | $6,018,000 6 (4) Insidious Chapter 3 $4,110,000 | 2,553 Theaters | $1,610 Avg. | $45,370,000 7 (5) Pitch Perfect 2 $3,300,000 | 2,146 Theaters | $1,538 Avg. | $177,500,000 8 (7) Mad Max: Fury Road $2,815,000 | 1,424 Theaters | $1,977 Avg. | $143,602,000 9 (8) Avengers: Age of Ultron $2,723,000 | 1,662 Theaters | $1,638 Avg. | $451,039,000 10 (9) Tomorrowland $2,009,000 | 1,764 Theaters | $1,139 Avg. | $87,696,000 Entourage $1,900,000 | 1,304 Theaters | $1,457 Avg. | $29,610,000 Love & Mercy $1,695,000 | 792 Theaters | $2,140 Avg. | $7,151,000 I'll See You In My Dreams $674,000 | 287 Theaters | $2,348 Avg. | $4,048,000 ABCD (Any Body Can Dance) 2 $444,000 | 146 Theaters | $3,041 Avg. | $444,000 (yes, there was a first one) Cinderella $353,000 | 275 Theaters | $1,284 Avg. | $199,841,000 (nearly there) Me and Earl and the Dying Girl $352,000 | 68 Theaters | $5,176 Avg. | $645,000 Global Totals: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON: $918.4M Overseas Total | $1.367B Global Total JURASSIC WORLD: $583.1M Overseas Total | $981.3M Global Total SAN ANDREAS: $282M Overseas Total | $414.2M Global Total HOME: $206.39M Overseas Total | $380.5M Global Total MAD MAX: FURY ROAD: $202.5M Overseas Total | $346.1M Global Total THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT: $154.74M Overseas Total | $284.55M Global Total PITCH PERFECT 2: $94.5M Overseas Total | $272M Global Total TOMORROWLAND: $108.3M Overseas Total | $195.996M Global Total SPY: $95.01M Overseas Total | $170.39M Global Total INSIDE OUT: $41.0M Overseas Total | $132.056M Global Total POLTERGEIST: $31.06M Overseas Total | $77.75M Global Total INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3: $32.2M Overseas Total | $77.6M Global Total THE LONGEST RIDE: $23.68M Overseas Total | $61.07M Global Total DRAGON BALL Z: RESURRECTION F: $37.9M Overseas Total MINIONS: $12.3M Overseas Total | $12.3M Global Total

Oh, I'd blocked that out of my memory. What was Kristin thinking? They didn't last very long; the breakup happened in early 2013. In looking at his Twitter feed he seems to be involved with various charity events and CrossFit. I figured Andi would try to be one of those go-to legal experts for an entertainment show, though she doesn't have a ton of on-the-job experience. Even if that doesn't work out, I guess it's easier to be a Z-list celebrity in NY/LA in terms of opportunity, if not cost of living.

I thought it was Zyzzyx Road (total gross: $30) but it was only released in 1 theater, while United Passions is the lowest grossing movie to be released in at least 10 theaters. Ignoble achievements, both!
