Dawn and Don. I had a friend who repeatedly pronounced them for me to convince me they were different. I never could hear a difference. My father used to drive me crazy saying, "Yaller." I'd say, "Yellow," and he'd say, "That's what I said." I don't think he was trying to be funny. He just couldn't hear the difference.

I find it useful for checking out the unknown parents of my son's new friends. He makes new friends every year at school, and I never know the parents. And since his birthday is pretty soon after school starts and he always wants to invite his new friends to his party, I have to find addresses so we can send invitations. (I like to mail invitations because you can only give them out at school if you invite the whole class, which I don't want to do, and also kids like to get mail addressed to them.) Does she also criticize women who give birth to their own children instead of adopting domestically? I mean, what business is it of hers how other people decide to have children?

I'm with @Browncoat. I never know which pronunciation of data I will use or why, but sometimes one pronunciation just seems to fit better. I'm also often anxious about things even when I am eagerly awaiting them. I didn't realize this until I was an adult, but looking back at my childhood, I can see that it was true. I always looked forward to school starting, but I also always had an unset stomach and couldn't sleep every year before it started. I had a boss from Nevada once, and he would always correct the way people pronounced, but I can't remember now which pronunciation was correct. I want to say that he said it was Nevadda, but I'm not sure.

Any email that arrives in my inbox that says "Re:" and is not in response to something I actually sent goes immediately into the trash. I generally regard those as spam and don't even open them. You can opt out for a time, but eventually everyone will get it, I think.

That happened to me the first time I tried to post a picture, and I think I had to leave the page and come back or reload it before trying a second time with smaller pictures because it was still counting the first pictures as part of my size limit even though they were no longer there. It's been a while, though, so this may not be a problem any more.

I got 5 or 6, depending on how much I want to stretch it. Like others, the cord collection is not so much hoarding as I have these cords that go with things I may or may not have any more. And many of them aren't my cords. They belong to my husband, who would score much higher than me. It might be hoarding, though, because I feel that if you throw the cord away, then you'll find something you need it for -- possibly even the thing it went with. I don't know that I want to assist Doctor Who, but I wouldn't mind hanging out for a while, as long as we weren't being chased by things that wanted to kill us (which seems to happen regularly) and as long as it was the Ninth or Tenth Doctor. I'm not interested in any others. I wouldn't mind partying with hobbits, either. There's likely to be lots of food because hobbits like to eat a lot, and if it's a birthday party, hobbits give presents to their guests, rather than the other way around. And if you're lucky, a wizard might show up with cool fireworks. (Yes, hobbits do party.) I would submit that some of those questions are dumb and that there are other questions that probably should be there, possibly more about actually gaming than just owning (one!) 20-sided die. For instance, do you have the collection of dice with different numbers of sides? Is it a matching set? How many do you have? How many six-sided dice do you have (because you need to roll more than one sometimes for attacks and defense).

I wrote them a note that said that exact thing in their comments box (I forget what I had to click to get it) before I went back to the old design. I'm keeping it for as long as I can. Of course, I'm still unhappy that even when I make my feed "most recent," it doesn't show me everything (apparently) since the last time I logged on. I don't want Facebook curating my feed based on what its algorithms (or whatever the right word is) thinks I want to see. I want it to show me everything and let me decide what I don't want to see.

This is why I didn't like when they renumbered the books in The Chronicles of Narnia. It was nice to get to later books and read something and think, "That's how that got there!"

I'd bet that he is thinking you probably want a little time off between projects because he likes taking time off between projects, and it has never occurred to him that he still gets paid during that time off and you don't.

I think people in our workplace have actually been doing more since telework because anyone not in the office has to record what they do every day. If you are in the office, you don't have to do that.

Said what line? The posts you quoted don't seem to have a line of dialogue in them.

My grandfather used to (or so we were told) bury money in jars in his backyard. He had a map for where they were, and every now and then, he'd dig them up and move them (redrawing the map). I don't know if this is a true story or not. He had a lot of gold coins, and that may be what he buried. He also had money in several different banks partly because he didn't want to put too much in one bank and lose it and partly because if the bank was giving away something to people who opened accounts, he'd open an account. By the time I remember, he worked in a hardware store and my grandmother did alterations at a laundry and cleaners business. He'd done a lot of different kinds of work in his lifetime, though, and never got over the depression, I think. They lived in a small three-bedroom, one-bath house in a not very good part of the city. We used to get phone calls from some guy looking for his mother. I finally figured out she had the same number as us, but in a different area code. She lived in a town about 20 minutes away, but somewhere between here and there, the area code changed. I never could figure out why he didn't know his mother's area code and that he needed to dial it.

Yes. Or maybe no. I'm not sure which is the right answer to say these people have nothing else to do. That has been one of the things I've liked about teleworking. During meetings, I can do other things also. I have to go back to the office in a week or so, though, at least until school goes back to distance learning, which I hope is better than it was in the spring. If it's not, at least now I know where to go on the web to find lessons to supplement.

No idea. I'm not really a Dirty Dozen sort of person and have only ever seen clips. But I can probably quote almost all of Sleepless in Seattle.

I've always had issues with wrap dresses fitting properly on the top and bottom because my top is a smaller size than my bottom. I have the same issue with any V-neck crossover dress (I don't know what the real name is, but where one side crosses over the other to form a V-neck), which is a peeve, because I so often like the way they look, but if they fit my bottom, then they are gaping open on the top. The only time I have been able to wear such a thing was when I was pregnant.

I thought it was a nightgown until I read the post.

Huh. I just watched an episode of "Grey's Anatomy" that he was on and had to look him up because he looked so familiar.

I was driving on a two-lane highway today, and a little sportscar going probably 10 mph above the speed limit (which was already 65) zoomed past me. I was going the speed limit. I'm not sure where he came from because he wasn't the car right behind me, so he passed at least two cars at once and possibly more. About 20 miles down the road at a four-way stop where another highway crosses the one I was on, I saw him pulled over. First time I've ever seen that actually happen, I think. And he really didn't even bother me when he passed because he hadn't been riding my bumper, and he passed very quickly when there was plenty of space. But it was nice to see him stopped anyway. (I say "he," but I really don't know if it was a man or woman.)

We found it at Walmart. It was OK.

Norman looks like a good dog. I would probably start off afraid of him. When dogs like him are around, though, I try to use them to help my son not be afraid of dogs like I am. I've taught him (or tried really hard to teach him) to always ask the owner if he can pet the dog and then hold out his hand and let the dog sniff his knuckles before patting. He seems to have learned that lesson. He tries to get our cats to sniff him before he pats the cats. The cats really don't care what he smells like as long as he gives them food and plays with them and pats them (but not like that because cats are always particular about how you pat, and you usually are doing it wrong).

Dogs scare me, particularly what we all sudden doggies, so I'd have probably jumped so much that I dropped all the bags and spilled food all over the ground. If she knew the dogs would do that (as she said she did), then why didn't she restrain them in some way or not bring them?

If you say it out loud, it sounds like Pandora's box.

It didn't make me sleep, but Benadryl and NyQuil don't too much either. They relieve the symptoms (mostly coughing) so I can go to sleep, but then four hours later, I'll be wide awake. So for me, the thing that happens on TV that doesn't happen in my real life is someone takes a Benadryl or a dose of NyQuil or some other medicine and is still out 12 hours later or is sleepwalking and doing loopy stuff. I suppose it's all a matter of body chemistry.

I had that too when I had a wisdom tooth out. At least I think that's what it was. I hated it. About three hours after taking it, I would throw up. After my C-section, I had Percocet. I hated that, too. I couldn't sleep and kept half hallucinating things that were just outside my vision. It was not a pleasant experience.
