Guy's Grocery Games - General Discussion
Psychobunny replied to David T. Cole's topic in Guy's Grocery Games
Anybody else notice the slow-motion food porn shots in this week’s show? I think one of the editors is bored. I am always upset when someone crushes the first two rounds but then loses in the last round. I really wanted to try Kristie’s(?sp) food. The others not so much. -
My thoughts: Not surprised that each of the angels has been challenged once-wonder how much freedom the artists really have to challenge who they want. Hope Gia is OK-she didn’t look at all well when she came back. Love Kelly but she needs to tone it down with the screaming and hair shaking when she tells them to stop tattooing. Finally, was amused that the two male inktestants both had the exact same tattoo (a black left arm). While they may have done it because they thought it was badass and radical (which would prove amusing since it is apparently becoming trendy and therefore not at all radical) I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that each had a deep personal reason for getting what is essentially the identical tattoo as a rival.

Guy's Grocery Games - General Discussion

I'm just pissed that the money is going to a charity associated with that idiot Dr. Oz. I don't call him a charlatan because he is apparently an excellent cardiac surgeon but he has no apparent understanding of evidence based medicine and the money will likely go to some proponent of the latest woo that he is enamored of this week as opposed to where it could actually help someone. I'm also kind of glad that Alex lost so people will stop attributing any of her wins to producer manipulation rather than skill. -
The Annual Primetime Emmys - General Discussion
Psychobunny replied to susannot's topic in The Primetime Emmy Awards (Emmys)
My thoughts on the show after having seen it but not yet read any comments: Best way to watch the show: fast forward Best comedy "bit": tie between Sean Spicer and the interview with Emmy Worst comedy "bit": vibrator joke Best speech (heartfelt): writer for Master of None Best speech ( comedy): VEEP producer Worst speech: none-fast forward is my new best friend Best dressed: Nicole Kidman (runner up Lea Michele) Worst dressed: Winner for directing something who looked like she was wearing a pretty white dress but had accidentally peed herself when she found out that she won (runner up Oprah who I know can do better) Best rack: Anika Noni Rose (sorry Dolly) Best plastic surgery: Jane Fonda (normally, I don't give this one because the best plastic surgery is the surgery you don't notice but she looks younger than she did 20 years ago when she had wrinkles) Nice production touch: ending the In Memoriam segment with the end of the MTM show WTF production touch: playing winners onstage with You Don't Own Me Worst production touch: the writing for the descriptions of the winners (maybe tell me something that I would be interested in, like what they won prior Emmys for rather than that they graduated high school two years early) (runner up-the announcer himself; the best announcers you don't notice at all rather than wondering what they just said) OMG he/she is still alive: Best: Norman Lear at 95 Worst: Cicely Tyson at 92 Shows the Emmys reminded me I intend to watch someday: Master of None Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Grace and Frankie Last Week Tonight Shows I've never heard of but will now probably google but never actually watch: Atlanta The Night of -
Guy's Grocery Games - General Discussion
Psychobunny replied to David T. Cole's topic in Guy's Grocery Games
Fwiw, I heard of Alex before I ever saw her on TFN. She apparently has real chops. She was the first female poissonnier at Guy Savoy in Paris and they don't keep you there for 3 years if you're not any good. I do think she has a good sense of humor and I've seen her lose a lot on TFN. I am giving her the benefit of the doubt and saying that maybe her food is just that good.- 1.2k replies

Guy's Grocery Games - General Discussion
Psychobunny replied to David T. Cole's topic in Guy's Grocery Games
Why is Ms. Fleek on my screen? Also, why did they not comment that Antonia got butter as one of her ingredients when it is already on their station (and other chefs used it)? -
Is it wrong that I want to watch this show? Three cheftestant daters are chosen. The featured bachelor/bachelorette describes their ideal meal. The cheftestantants then have a limited amount of time to cook a meal they think will impress him/her. There is a blind taste testing and the winner gets a date.
-
I totally forgot Ted Allen, Ann Burell and Cat Cora. FWIW, I don't see any bias at all on TFN. I just think Jason and Ron would be a hoot. Can't you just imagine Ron trying to figure out what Jason is trying to say?
-
That article linked upthread made me like Jason a little more. I always was a little confused about how "home baker" reconciled with somebody who cooked for a living in a school. The story now makes sense. I also agree that they are inconsistent about how much or what kind of personal information they want you to share. Apparently, you always need to talk about grandparents and children but not spouses. This got me wondering if any of the finalists were married and if Jason is gay or just Southern. That led to me wondering if TFN has any out gay hosts, and the only one I could think of was Ron Ben-Israel. That is when I realized that I would pay good money for a show-any show-featuring Jason and Ron interacting. I would watch them cook. I would watch them travel to bakeries and talk about them. I would especially watch them in a modern version of Green Acres where they get married, move to Kentucky and open a bakery while living on Jason's farm. How do I make this happen?????? (And if it does happen and is successful I want a cut of the syndication rights).

Rusty mentioned he was on Guy's Big Bite twice. I thought that was an actual cooking show. Does that mean they knew each other before?

I just watched this and wanted to give my unbiased opinion before going back to read this thread. Now I see what the judges see. With the exception of Eva, who I have loved from the start, and who deserved to win her division by technique alone, I was skeptical of the division winners. I still love K&M and Kinjaz, and I would rather watch them dance because I like their styles better but Swing Latino and Les Twins blew me away. I do think that either competitor could have deserved to win in these divisions, I am not angry at the outcome. Also kudos to the judges for their advice which clearly improved the performances. Sad that my favorites lost but can't complain too much about the judging.
-
I should just add +1 to all of the above comments. I have to say that I have not yet seen Fik-shun's season of SYTYCD and I was a little put off by one of his earlier performances when he basically indicated that he freestyled the whole thing, but this routine blew me away. I try to give Les Twins the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they bore me because they make it look so easy and their routines are technically very difficult, but at the same time, this is a performance show so they should try to engage the audience. I am rooting for Kinjaz, Eva and M&T next week.

Good to see I'm not alone in my Lab love. I wanted them and Eva because I do think she is talented. I don't get the adulation of Diana. Yes, she is flexible and can extend one leg but that is not the same as dancing. Interesting to see Misty Copeland call her out on technique. I'd rather see the little girl from the Lab any day. She reminded me of the little Jabberwocky girl when they performed on ABDC.

Technically, it could be her sister in the article but it sounds like he probably abused them both. I wonder why Wikipedia doesn't mention it.

Say Yes To The Dress - General Discussion
Psychobunny replied to Rhondinella's topic in Say Yes To The Dress
Most brides I know go to David's and spend a lot less than $1000. -
Also, if Anne Burrell is spitting out food because it's too spicy then it is really spicy. I was sort of supporting Corey until this week. Not mentioning the peppers was a dick move. David was clearly checking the jar of sun-dried tomatoes to make sure he hadn't accidentally put in peppers by mistake and Corey just sat there and let Giada snap at him. So now I guess it's Jason by default although at this point I almost want Addie back.

I just watched the pastry chef episode and they said that they were supposed to bake in every round but the one who won didn't bake anything I could see in the first round. She fried her dough. I hate when people don't follow the rules and still win. Did I miss something or did they just ignore the rules to let her win?

Say Yes To The Dress - General Discussion
Psychobunny replied to Rhondinella's topic in Say Yes To The Dress
So I am watching the UK edition and looking at all the pretty dresses when I see one with a back that looks like a longline bra. Not just like lingerie, but like extremely ugly lingerie. Surprise! It's a Pnina?. Then a bride tries on a gorgeous gown with illusion lace straps but ditches it for a crappy strapless that looks horrible because she frankly doesn't have the cleavage for it, which you can tell because she has to keep hiking it up every few seconds, and once again, it is a way overpriced Pnina. I think my show is ruined. -
Here is my theory. Every knew that Suzanne had to go. However, I think that her baklava actually tasted good. We saw the judges praise the filling and the sauce (or whatever you call the honey drizzled on it). I think she also seemed to have a tie in with the triangle shape that looked like little mountains. They therefore had to come up with some reason to criticize her food so it wouldn't look like they were tossing a good cook. Therefore, they came up with the "too dry" excuse (which neither of the other judges noticed until Giada pointed it out even though they were eating the dessert). They also needed to point out that she hadn't explained what baklava was. Then they had an even better reason to dump her. Then again, I may be overthinking things.

Addie bugs me. She's just so smug. It's like the way I used to feel about Martha Stewart after the Julia Child Croquembouche episode (Martha redeemed herself after #1)sucking it up and doing her jail time without whining, #2) Befriending Snoop Dog and admitting she smoked weed with him and #3) Openly going on online dating sites to actually find dates-as opposed to exploit the experience for TV rating). She has a chance to redeem herself. Currently my favorites are Cory (always a sucker for the good cooks-especially self-taught ones) and Cao (because I don't know how to make Vietnamese food and she's cool). As far as shrimp and grits goes, Jason basically showed how it should have been done (grilled shrimp on a polenta cake with a tomato sauce. He took the same basic concept as Tory but made it more French and more appropriate for the challenge (although unfortunately apparently not more tasty). S09.E00: Celebrity American Ninja Warrior
Psychobunny replied to Lantern7's topic in American Ninja Warrior
I agree that I am surprised that people would not think Derek would do well. As noted, as a dancer he routinely lifts partners over his head including doing dead lifts and supporting them one-handed while moving. I would expect him to have great upper body strength. -
What I don't understand is that they are looking for somebody viewers can relate to and who feels like an old friend they are chatting with yet they keep pushing Matthew who is totally unlikeable. What is sad is that the only cooking show I like is Trisha's and I think it's because she seems so down to earth and like somebody I'd like to hang out and cook with, so unfortunately they may be on to something.

The Great British Baking Show On PBS
Psychobunny replied to Athena's topic in The Great British Bake Off
I can't understand what my PBS station is doing. They started airing a new season, I watched the first two episodes, and then they skipped to episode 6. I don't know what season it is (possibly 5) but the next episode is Continental Cakes and the description says that they make a 24 step Swedish princess cake. It's just annoying that I was getting to know these bakers and now suddenly half of them will be gone. Those episodes are also missing on demand.
