  1. "She is a walking example of why we need the estate tax." ROFL. The part of her accusing Seth Meyers being Ilhan Omar's publicist looks so bad. She keeps framing it that everyone is out to get her, when Seth wasn't even trying to frame it as such. Like her saying "if my views are unpopular, so be it". Which is not even relevant to the conversation at hand.
  2. Sam Seder and his crew did a hilarious take of the same clip of Meghan McCain. The hilarious thing is you have the female on the majority report (Jamie Peck), who is an anarchist communist, who thinks AOC is too far on the right. I kind of want to see Jamie Peck on the view, just to see Meghan McCain lose her mind. Michael Brooks did a hilarious but incredibly true take on socialism. How do you convince people that socialism is good? Just play clips of Meghan McCain people a complete elitist snob, and that will convince people.
  3. Oh boy, I can't imagine how you would feel, if you watched the American version of Masterchef. I find it weird that they have the mentor at random (Poh being picked this week). I'm not bothered by it, but I could see it problematic in the future. Example. Gary: "Your challenge is to make the most perfect roast chicken." Immunity Contestants *Nods* Gary: "Your mentor of the week is......Ben, from Season 10!" Contestant: "WTF*!@#)(*!, The dude only knows how to make ice cream."
  4. Right. I think if Tim was in the USA masterchef, he would be in the middle of the pack, since the American contestants are very hammy and conscious of the camera. The Australian cast in general are very reserved. I mean you have people like Jess last season, where people were annoyed with her perkiness. So Tim just in particular really sticks out like a sore thumb. The mystery box challenge was really weird with several of the contestants driving off the cliff. I don't think I remember so many contestants crashing and burning. Blackberries and steak sounded like a terrible combination (lol, why is that a good idea). Totally expected the judges to do a bottom 10 and eliminate 4 of them right off the bat.
  5. So just watched the first week. Just like past seasons, its going to take at least 4 weeks for me to know everyone. Not to mention, it looks like there isnt going to be an elimination for a while. Tim, is....quite extra. He reminds me of a lot of the American masterchef contestants, kind of hammy and overly expressive. It doesn't bother me as much as everyone else here. However, he really sticks out like a sore thumb compared to everyone else. Totally felt like Mandy should have won that challenge, but it was pretty obvious she wouldn't (since they didn't focus on her that much). The follow the chef challenge, doesn't really work for an immunity challenge. It works a lot better, when its an elimination challenge, because the drama and pressure naturally occurs when someone falls behind (since they are scared of getting eliminated). When the other guy fell behind (forgot his name), it kind of falls flat, since there isn't much he's losing.
  6. I like Briar. She has good musicality. She can move sharply and and slinky based on the music. I do blame it more on the judges. The one dance she did more musical dancing and less tricks, they cut her. Definitely rooted for the Kings to go through, but Unity LA did a phenomenal job. Rewatching again the "angels" were smooth in their transitions. One of the little things I didn't realize, is the dancers would reorient their positions every time the door would rotate. Really amazing the amount of choreography and work that went in to that. I'm pissed that Charlize and Julian not only lost, but the fact that their dance got montaged. WTH world of dance? So it was pretty obvious they didn't move on. I felt like they didn't win, because they were already two hip hop groups moving on, and the producers probably want balance.
  7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHRUV5UHDjE Okay the front camera angle is so much better. So annoyed with the weird camera angle shots, with the reaction judge shot. We missed a lot of good parts.
  8. Meghan McCain has inspired me to reply back to my coworkers "its your job to listen to me." Although that probably would get me fired.
  9. The whole thing with the Lotus chips being to thick was a bit surprising to me. The slices look really thin. Was Eric supposed to essentially do like paper thin lotus chips? I wonder if his oil was too hot when he was frying them. Overall season was okay. I feel like its kind of like Top Chef Seattle. When you have the early front runners go home, you really lack consistency. It was weird to see so many times the person who won the last episode go home on the next.
  10. Interesting with the guest judges. Alvin is the head judge for Masterchef Canada. The other asian guy, has been a guest judge for Masterchef Australia. Really weird seeing both of them in a different setting. Does anyone know what type of bacon that Sarah got instead? I know that Sarah was a contestant that wasn't well liked for several posters. But she was really classy in her loss. It was cute of her (when Kelsey was in shock) to tell Kelsey, don't just stand there hug your family.
  11. Okay I didn't realize this until majority report shared this. Joy inserted quickly that Jews get discriminated in legacy admissions. What a hilarious dig at Meghan, who was freaking out about anti-semitic issues before. Joy is ridiculously good at this. I can't believe that Meghan also seem to not realize the difference between legacy and legacy advantage. She really does not understand that, which explains her weird "my father rant". Also, the irony of using her father to defend legacy advantage.
  12. Here it is. The whole Abby Huntsman's statement on AOC was so infuriating. Her interpretation was not even close to what AOC said. I love her look of shock, when Sunny brought up the quote, after the commercial break. She looked like she got her hand caught in a jar of cookies.
  13. In fairness, a lot of political analysts kind of suck at predicting. So Meghan will probably fit right in.
  14. That really pisses me off now. There were some cool moves that got cut out thanks to the judges reactions. I did like Briar Nolet. She was a bit over the top with the tricks. However, she does have really good movement. I agreed with J-lo, that has more fluid slinky quality, while most of the contemporary dancers seem to be really stiff. Also she really moves well to the music. I like Already (the all around duo). Is one of the contestants Dassy Lee from SYTYCD? Looks really similar to her.
  15. That's the unfortunate recipe of Reality TV. There needs to be a "hero" and a "villain". So when there isn't a defined "hero" or "villain" (especially villain), us the audience will try to gravitate and make a villain in the cast. I feel like the past 4-5 seasons of top chef, there hasn't really been a main villain in general, especially compared to the early seasons (Tiffani, Illan, Betty, Lisa, Mike Isabella etc.) So whoever is the contestant the comes off the tiniest whiny, or have a bit of a bitch face, or feels frustrated is going to get the brunt. I do think Kelsey deserved to win, but I realized her basket ingredients were cashews, cabbage, and oranges. To be honest, it didn't even look like she even higlighted them. Eric's basket is even harder than I realized. He had water chestnuts as his ingredient, is also a hard ingredient to highlight. It doesn't really have a flavor of in itself. Sara's basket frustrated me, because she could really been creative with Chinese cooking instead of shrimp and grits. Like would been awesome to do something like a cauliflower pork dry pot or fusing something like this.
  16. Felt kind of lame, Adrienne got cut, because her portions were too small? Especially since it looked like some the other contestants portions didn't seem all that much bigger. Felt like Sara's dish really over stretched the challenge. She should have been eliminated. While the other contestants had their own spins, it had a fusion of Chinese/Macau. Its one thing to do something like Kelsey did, which is to incorporate Chinese style into what she likes to do. Its another thing to just be like screw it, I want to make shrimp and grits. I don't think there was any remotely Chinese/Macau flair in it. Eric's basket seemed really difficult. Lychee is really delicate flavor. Not to mention, I don't think there is any savory dishes that uses lychee in general. They are all desserts. Chinese dishes that uses lychees are usually some drink, pudding, or some fruit cocktail. The only dishes I can think is something like the following. I felt like Eric would have been nailed, and probably sent home if he made something like the following. Did anyone thought the mysterious white powder bag that Kelsey got was a bag of MSG?
  17. Just realized that Charlize was from 8 flavahz in America's Best Dance Crew. Some of the audience was out of control. When Get Down District was dancing, there was this annoying lady screaming incredibly out of control over and over again.
  18. ROFL, Meghan McCain got owned hard by Tulsi.
  19. Because its a veteran who doesn't agree with her views, so its okay for her (in her mind) to cut her down. Especially the fact that Tulsi's platform is being anti-war (specifically against regime change wars), which is the complete opposite of her father making jokes about bombing Iran.
  20. Kind of sucks that Kseniya didn't get a chance to perform one more time. I mean, how many sand artists will ever be on AGT? She just posted an awesome tribute to all the finalists.
  21. Yup, AOC wasn't even the main opponent of the Amazon deal in NY. It was a lot of the local New York politicians in city council (Corey Johnson, Julia Salazaar etc), as well a ton of community activists that led the charge (because they were pissed that Cuomo and others essentially tried to sign off the deal without even consulting the communities that would be affected by the possible gentrification). AOC supported them, but wasn't even close to being the leading opposition. One of the issues I believe that was trying to be negotiated was having unions, which Amazon definitely does not want. Also like what Sunny pointed out most of the jobs actually would not be people from Queens or the Bronx. All those high paying jobs would be people applying externally (especially since the job descriptions would probably not be compatible with the people in those areas) Listening to Abby and Meghan talk about this subject, it really shows their massive blindspots when it talks about the issue of poverty and gentrification. Ana talked about how she knew Marcus Samuelson, and Meghan immediately talked about how she knew him too. Shut up Meghan.
  22. Eric also made a stew. I wished I could see the recipe. However, if its similar to what I think it is, its high on the difficulty level (my personal opinion). Its a pretty hard dish to balance (also a lot of prep, and a lot of cooking time). I'm curious how he got it done in a short amount of time.
  23. I really hope West African food (Ghanian in particular) really catches on. Its really good and comforting. Somali food is another cuisine that is really good as well. I feel like both get looked down on, because it doesn't look very aesthetically pleasing.
  24. I'm glad Michelle won. I totally felt for her, when the lid of her squeeze bottle fell off. Probably one of the things that pisses me off when I cook, is to have the lid fall off, and cups of oil just spill.
  25. I totally was expecting Adrienne to not get any spices in the blind tasting. I was cracking up when she kept guessing thyme over and over again. Then she gets to thyme and guesses something else. Then Adrienne talks about how she's familiar with filipino food, because she has experience with south east asian food, specifically vietnamese? Uh, not all asian countries are the same. In terms of West African cooking. I have some of the food, primarily the stew, and those take a long time to make. I don't know how Eric got it done in such a short amount of time. I also was expecting Eric to microwave the fufu, since that is a cheat way of getting things done.
