  1. I'm scheduled to go on Viking Cruise down the Rhine the end of the March. It was not cheap but you only turn 60 once. I've never had any desire to go on an ocean cruise but this looks like it will be fun. We stop at a different town every day and the price includes one tour in each town. I'm going with a few friends that I've traveled with before so I know we're compatible. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will be a good time.
  2. I had no idea for FJ but I think any awkwardness in the phrasing should be attributed to Wired since they were quoting the article. There is however no excuse for the Christina Aguilera clue. It would have been marginally harder if they'd asked for the singer and not the song. Alan doesn't bother me at all. I don't pay attention to how they sign their names. And while I sometimes get irritated with how they hold the buzzer I can't blame anyone for holding the way they are most comfortable.
  3. I can't tell what the movie will be like but the book was one of my favorites as a young girl. I bought it for my nieces and my friends daughters. It skews more for girls so I laughed that it was an all male lineup that got the category.
  4. They know that they can ring in after someone get's it wrong, right? There were a couple of times that it seems like they should've figured it out - roid/road rage; St Patrick's day parade (I think there was one other one that I can't remember). I know, it's easy for me to say in the comfort of my couch but come on! The guy on the end was a cutie.
  5. I have an aunt whose birthday is Christmas and a friend whose daughter's birthday is Valentine's Day. Mine is beginning of March. According to my mom I was born in the middle of a blizzard. March being what it is sometimes my birthdays in the middle of a snowstorm and sometimes it's 65°. Happy Birthday to all you February babies!!
  6. The world reminded me of the movie "Pleasantville". I assume Nicole was in charge because she had enough knowledge, memory and imagination to rise to the top. For a moment I thought they were going to not reset Jenkins' dying. I was as happy as Flynn and Baird were to see him. This did look like it could serve as a series end but I hope it isn't. I'd miss this little show if it doesn't come back. I just realized, Jenkins isn't dungeon master anymore. That's sad.
  7. As a Steelers fan (I'm originally from Pgh) I was rooting for the Eagles. Also, I've lived in the middle of Eagles territory for the last 30 years. The friends I watched the game with all grew up as Eagles fans-they were literally crying with joy and I'm happy for them. It was a heck of a game. Congrats Eagles!!
  8. Stargate SG-1; and Midsomer Murders (a repeat of which I'm watching right now). And clips of the Graham Norton Show.
  9. I got Edinburgh, Ascuncion, Berlin and FJ. And now I have Ooooooooooooklahoma in my head.
  10. I had family members who were big Dallas fans back in the day so I knew Landry. I have to say I would not have rung in for any of the other football clues either. I will watch the occasional game but have never gotten into the mechanics of the play. Alex's reactions this week have been priceless.
  11. Oh they had better find a way to bring back Jenkins. That is all.
  12. Maybe he doesn't like French fries? I honestly never realized that's how the company got its name, but then I never really paid attention to how it's spelled either. But is soon as I saw the map and remembered the category I got it. I wanted the middle guy to win because he knew who Roberto Clemente was.
  13. That just happened to me at 2 doctors offices. 3 years ago I had arthroscopic knee surgery. They gave me Percocet. I maybe took 1. It's still listed as a prescription I'm taking on all of my records. My gyno had a lot of old information this year because he went with a new group and the record systems didn't integrate right.
  14. I think Brandy said "not Hull" - Kingston Upon Hull is a town in the UK. I think she remembered the category just as she answered. I liked her. Once again I scared the neighbors shouting - this time it was "Three Rivers". I also knew Dayton and a couple of others but was more polite about it. I thought of Icarus but couldn't put him with a literary work and forgot about his dad. It's been too long since I've read Joyce. I thought a couple of the DDs were too easy.
  15. I grew up near Versailles PA (about 40 miles southeast of PGH). We also pronounce it Ver-sales. To be honest, pronouncing it the French way would feel pretentious. I got Princell Grace, Lindsey Vonn, Hannibal, NC and a couple others I can't remember. I very confidently said the flag for FJ; I forgot about draft cards. If ever I was on Jeopardy I'd need to brush up on dog breeds.
  16. For Martha Washington my brain wouldn't let go of "Custer" even though I knew it wasn't right. At least it was close. Sort of. I knew Lizzie Borden (I've had that ditty in my head ever since -Lizzy Borden took an axe...), Australia and Muhammad.
  17. Tri-state is also used for the PA-NJ-DE borders (around the Delaware river). Still not Virginia or Maryland though.
  18. Rachel doesn't bother me (and when my hair was longer I had a nervous habit of playing with it so I sympathize). I'm just glad the guy on the end didn't win. He seemed almost angry a couple times when he was ruled incorrect. I thought he was going to jump over the podium.
  19. Sigh. A whole category on my hometown and they only got to 2 questions. Of course I couldn't remember the name of the book in the second question but still. I was looking forward to the category. FJ was instaget. My mother used to order from them all the time. Ed McMahon never came to our door. Bastards.
  20. As an estate planning attorney I can tell you the worst thing someone can do is leave a business to someone who doesn't want to run it and hasn't been involved in it. It's a recipe for disaster. I'd have recommended to Dad that he pick an executor and direct them to hire a temporary manager until the business could be sold or liquidated. Course then there wouldn't be a story. I only watch this show sporadically but every time I do it ends with someone singing in a bar.
  21. In not too short a time that poster born in 1997 is going to be an "old hag" to people born in 2007. The world keeps a turnin'. Many years ago my nephew' "other" grandmother and I decided to fudge our ages. She said decided it would be her 59th birthday. I decided I was going to stay at 39. My then seven-year-old nephew looked at both of us and said "well I guess I'm not born yet". Little smartass almost didn't make it to 8.
  22. I got What's New Pussy Cat (it took me the whole category to realize they were all questions. Need to pay attention to category names!) l'chaim, frets, giraffe and a couple of others. FJ was a big "doh" to me when it was revealed. I got hung up on the word Greek for some reason.
  23. About 7 years ago I got to the grocery store checkout and realized that I didn't have my debit card with me (turns out I left it at the restaurant I had eaten it the night before). I had to write a check-something I hadn't done in the store for years and haven't done since. The young checkout girl looked very confused. I still use checks for a couple of bills and send checks to my nephew and niece for Christmas and birthdays. It may be old fashioned but they haven't complained yet!!
  24. Stargate SG-1; first four seasons of West Wing
  25. In my area a prominent doctor was just arrested for the murder of his wife (the murder actually happened several years ago, it took them a while). His motive was that she found out about his side opiate drug dealing, in partnership with a motorcycle gang no less. There's also been a federal investigation into major drug dealing involving police fire and teacher health insurers. So this was a timely episode.
